No not the massacre (though it might just be in the event any of you forgot) !
I tried for days to get bookings at two cracking restaurants - either always busy or no answer, so sod them. I switched to home-cooked (I've done this just once before but it went down well so it gives me confidence to have another attempt).
There's a cracking home delivery service (Aussie owned) of imported foodstuffs so today's delivery brought : Arctic Cod, 2 Sirloins, 2 Ribeye, 900g of those huge Thai Tiger Prawns, 400g of Thai shrimps, nice piece of raw Salmon, some smoked mackerel & 4 avocados. GBP45 for all that lot (as compared to 70 - 100 pounds each for the restaurants) ! My wife loves seafood above all else - though a nice steak isn't declined either 🙂
Valentine's Day
Breakfast : Smoked mackerel with butter, OJ and Green Tea.
Lunch : wife only ever has a tiny simple veggie-based Chinese lunch when at home
Dinner (all small portions otherwise I know it's too much for her) :
1st Course : Shrimp / Avocado / Red Pepper - Aragula Salad
2nd Course : Poached Cod with Mango Puree & Asparagus
3rd Course : 4 Tiger Prawns in Garlic Sauce each
4th Course : 250g Australian Ribeye each, overnight in a garlic/lime sauce marinade then Honey-Mustard sauce and Arugula / mini-Tomatoes Balsamic Salad with the steaks on the day.
My wife isn't a big desert eater so I just have some fresh strawberries & cream.
Cup of Tea (English).
Being incredibly original I usually always buy a huge bunch of mixed flowers (usually 15 lily stems - 4-5 flowers per stem - which we both love) but this year I've put a 32 page book together of her best photos over the past 3 years (mostly shots I've taken but also includes some pro-shoot ones she has taken in traditional dress) - due to the Chinese New Year I couldn't get it printed yet but I can show her the template on the computer - I doubt she'll mind though she'll probably vet the entries !
Wish me luck !
So how good is your game ? What have you got cooking for the love in your life ?
