VdV for 8Mil ?!

Apparently, Harry made a last ditch attempt of signing VdV for 8 friggin million !!

The FA is currently analyzing the deal to see if it'll be approved or not.

He needed a striker better than we got. We have limited funds, no doubt about that. If we could capture a very good midfielder for 8 mill (dont forget we have sent out midfielders worth 75 mill pounds the last two summers) we should have used our brain.

Singing VDV would have freed Jovanovic to play as a striker and we already have Babel, Kuyt & N'gog to cover Torres.

We've got option a plenty... it just none are particular great.

The fuzz is that he is able to hold the ball, pass it more than 5 yards and can play both left side and central. He could actually help us start dictating the tempo in games by passing the ball around. Poulsen and Lucas to name 2 are not able to do this. Meireles I dont know. Joe and Gerrard no problem, but there are to few of them. We need some footballers in our engine room, desperatley. Much more than we need some dire striker to sit on the bench. We have sent away midfielders worth 75 mill over the last two summers, and we havent refilled properly. So cunt or no cunt, the guy is a footballer.

Yeah I get that, but he's not a central midfielder. Buying him would mean that he'd compete with Cole for a spot. And you know Cole only joined because Roy guaranteed him a spot behind the striker. I think that's the reason Aquaman left.
If I could pick a Dutchman, Wesley Sneijder would be my first pick.

VDV is a midfielder. C Cole is a striker. I heard Harry on tv yesterday evening say that he got a call from Daniel Levy at 4pm yesterday to say that VDV was available for 8M. Previuosly the information was that he was going to Bayern for 16M.

I would also prefer Snejder over VdV. Every day. However Snejder was not available, and if he was he wouldnt be available for 8 mill (Euros or pounds?) I am not sure where VdV would play, but he can play CM as well as behind the strikers or any position in a 2-3-1 (except striker of course). Joe Cole has been given a word, but it wouldnt harm any to have competition as well as actually have a option if someone got a ban or were imjured.

If there is not much difference between him and Joe Cole, and we could get him for 8 mill it would be stupid to not take him. How many Joe Coles could you get for that amount. Look at i.e. Milner who moved for 26 mill plus Ireland.

We need a striker who can improve us. I personally dont see that C Cole is that striker. I dont want any more mediocre/straight swaps for what we have. I want players who can actually improve us. Vdv is a HUGE improvement on Poulsen/Lucas/jovanovic which ever way we set up our team.

I wasn't supporting the Cole deal, but it's obvious that we need a striker more so than the a creative player, who would inevitably end up shunted onto the flanks.

'Strengthening the team' is a very vague phrase. It has to be done in right way, and rightly, VDV was never going to be a priority. It would have been a bit of a punt for a luxury player. Still, I suppose it's better than no attacking players coming in.
