As if we weren’t fucked already. Maybe a month out injured with a hamstring injury.
The WC and intense Christmas period has taken its toll on some players, sadly.

Konate and Matip for the next month, then.

I actually think Gomez looks better in the LCB position than the RCB position so I wouldn't be averse to giving him a game there against Wolves. Happy with Konate as a LCB though, but Matip's form hasn't been great. Maybe it's time for Phillips to play.

High line strategy is a risk based strategy which was supposed to help us against low block teams.
It’s not working right now and key reason being we don’t have the players any longer to play it. A bit like when AVB tried to play at Chavs with Terry.
We should put it on hold for now and focus on stable pragmatic approach and build on it.

Konate LCB with Joe/Joel rotating at RCB because Joel can't play every game it seems

This isn’t the worry it would have been a few years ago - VVD is mortal now.

Despite his Brentford horror show, I've got more concerns about Matip staying fit then I have Konate matching VVDs current level. You couldn't ask for a better replacement.

With all the other problems going on, this is like a vase falling off a fireplace during an earth-quake. It's hard to give much of a toss.

"Our roof is leaking so what does it matter that there is a fire in the kitchen?"

VVD completely negates any aerial ball to a striker. He does it better than anyone I've ever seen and that hasn't changed. He's a beast. That's open without him in there. It's just another weakness that can make our midfield have to quickly reset itself.

Exactly. & all we know what happens when we're relying on our midfield to get their thinking heads switched on.

Even a 70% Virgil which is what we've seen of him this season we're still a much better side with than without.

Maybe your balls should start the next match thread? The Viking balls lost their mojo against Brentford.
Lost their mojo ?! Lost their MOJO ?!!! They fucking exploded ... blood, veins and sorts of shite all over the screen.

Is it bad that I don't care?
I'm really hopeful that our other defenders will step up and he'll have to fight his way back into the team. Konate + Matip/JoGo should be a solid pairing.

Very wishful thinking really.

Oh fuck…

Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk is to see a specialist to assess the extent of his hamstring injury.

The Netherlands defender, who has played in every Liverpool league game this season, was substituted at half-time in Monday's defeat at Brentford.

There is no timescale on how long Van Dijk will be out for but the injury appears worse than originally thought.
