On the way to the stadium. really happy to be back in the squad after long time. Let's win today!!! 🙂)

in his Sunday ECHO column, Mark Lawrenson says communication is the biggest thing lacking from the Liverpool defence.

"As a centre-back, if you are in position then you can’t go far wrong. The opposing player will have to beat you, but you will largely have control over the situation," writes Lawrenson. "If you’re out of position, though, you need help from your centre-back colleague. And here’s where Martin Skrtel can do better.

"When Skrtel played alongside Mamadou Sakho towards the end of last season, they had a couple of blemishes and you could see there wasn’t any great communication between the pair. "Skrtel is the common denominator. He doesn’t strike me as a great communicator."

Mario starts!

Liverpool team in full: Mignolet, Manquillo, Moreno, Lovren, Sakho, Gerrard, Allen, Henderson, Sterling, Sturridge, Balotelli.
Substitutes: Jones, Enrique, Toure, Lambert, Coutinho, Can, Markovic.

Happy enough with the selection. I'd have liked to see Markovic get a start for that extra creativity and the unknown / unpredictability factor, but Allen offers good workrate in the centre, which is useful here.

Some serious game-changing potential off the bench with Coutinho and Markovic.

Where's the fucking Llama? He's looked fit as a fiddle and has been back in training for ages. Not making the bench is a bit disappointing. Pleased the nutter is starting, and a solid looking bench.

Look everyone!!!! Look!! We have substitutes. Good ones. Sad no Lallana but happy he has two weeks to get fit now.

Apparently if Spurs, win, they can 'really start to believe'. Believe in fucking what after 3games? Winning back to back champions leagues?

Carra interviews Gerrard in two minutes (12.50) on Sky Sports 1.

He's just said when he spoke to Rodgers about england after the world cup, Rodgers told him if he didn't retire, then he'd start cutting back his starts for Liverpool this season.

I expect a word for word narrative from you Macca !

Gah!

Thinks we've got a long way to go to get up to last season's form.

Still down and disappointed about the world cup.

Surprised about Suarez leaving. Only after the incident did he realise what would happen. Saw the bite and then knew he'd go.

Laughs about Balotelli. Says he's got everything but he says we'll have to wait and see if he behaves.

It'll take time for new signings to bed in. Confident they'll eventually click as a team.

Looking forward to the break during international periods.

Rodgers said if he kept on playing for England he'd rest him more for Liverpool, so that decided it for him.

Champions League: feels ambitious about the campaign. Recalls being terrible the last time he played Basel.

Thinks today v Spurs will be very tight.

Boss interview with Stevie by Carra that.

Hasn't exactly hard hitting, but it still provided some insight, perhaps uniquely given he & Carra relationship, into how he thinks.

He also mention as soon as he saw that bite that he knew Luis would 'engineer a way out'.

Suggested he & the club really did expect at least one more season.

Fuck me, Balotelli has lost weight in a week.

The picture sky keep showing of him in the Liverpool top clearly shows a stomach. Not a beer belly, but a high rising bump, like Stevie has sometimes. Watching him train now & it's not there.

We've been hammering the lad on cardio clearly.
