I'm still holding out for Silva !

All the signs are there - definitely a player or two to come (striker/LW & CB).

First the budget hint, then the bid for Turner, now Rafa's latest comments on support for Gerrard / Torres :

Rafael Benitez has confirmed that Liverpool are in the market for an attack-minded player and declared that new signing Alberto Aquilani has a better ‘killer’ pass than his predecessor Xabi Alonso.

Speaking to the press, the Spanish coach revealed: "For the final pass, Aquilani has more accuracy than Xabi.
"We tried very hard to keep Xabi, but he made it clear he wanted to go and we have to defend Liverpool. We are professionals. He had a fantastic year, but he wanted to go.

Facing up to the obvious challenge from high-spending Manchester City, Benitez also conceded that high quality player additions were a necessity. "Man City are spending money; we had to bring in quality, and [Glen] Johnson is a good player," he said of the Reds’ new right-back.

"We will now look for someone to help [Fernando] Torres and [Steven] Gerrard. "The idea of winning the Premier League every year is hard. City are doing really well because they are signing players with Premier League quality, so they will be a threat to us and Manchester United."

I get where you're coming from, but I don't agree.  I reckon the pathetic way in which Ginsoak does that kind of thing in reverse actually rebounds on him and makes him look like the small-minded thug that he is.  Rafa's rattled him enough (for now at any rate) and can afford to take up the moral high ground again.

I honestly don't think we've got the funds for Silva but hopefully I'm wrong. Whatever is the case we'll need to move quickly to secure someone at this stage of the window.
 
Yeah, you're not wrong, but then neither is Rafa.

Aquilani has more in his locker to directly hurt teams than Xabi.

Not that this makes him a better player, obv.
 
We're lacking a central defender and striker.
Our winges are sorted IMO.
Wouldn't say no to Villa. But it's likely to be someone cheap.

Torres doesn't really have anyone to compete with.
Ngog should be loaned out, to help him develop further.
Voronin has impressed me a bit during pre season, but he's not good enough.
We missed out on Santa Cruz, he would have been perfect.

LIVERPOOL footie stars are going to prove they can take the heat - by having a Masterchef-style cook off to see who is the best chef.

The competition is between Anfield buddies STEVEN GERRARD, JAMIE CARRAGHER and FERNANDO TORRES, who has got the edge as his nickname is Nando.

The players have even recruited telly's Hell's Kitchen supremo and Michelin star chef MARCO PIERRE WHITE.

October's final will be held in Jamie's city centre sports restaurant, with Marco adding expert comments and post-meal analysis.

And despite there being only a few days left until the team kick-off their Premier League season against Spurs on Sunday, there's only one thing on their minds.

An Anfield insider said: "The lads have all been having a bit of banter.

"Stevie, Carra and Nando are good mates and they agreed to do it as a bit of a laugh.

"They've all been practising hard at home. Stevie keeps joking he's going to whip up a pan of Scouse while Nando and Carra want to do something a little fancy.

"Nando fancies himself as the favourite, he is always cooking at home for his missus and reckons his Spanish dishes will win over Marco and the other diners."

BERLIN, Aug 13: Hertha Berlin have changed their minds about not coming up with the cash to match Liverpool’s valuation of Andriy Voronin.

The 30-year-old Ukraine forward was outstanding last season while on loan to the German club who at one time harboured ambitions of a surprise Bundesliga title win thanks to his 11 goals in 20 games. Hertha could not find the money Liverpool wanted to buy Voronin outright however and the player returned to Anfield.

He has been regularly involved in Liverpool’s pre-season preparations – scoring a goal in last week’s friendly win over Lyn Oslo – but knows he will never command a certain starting place under manager Rafa Benitez.

Hertha coach Lucien Favre is believed to have warned his directors not to expect a similarly dramatic season without adequate attacking firepower – thus prompting a review of transfer funds. Hertha believe that Liverpool could be persuade to part with Voronin for £6m, considering the player’s age.

General manager Michael Preetz said: “It’s an issue we have to attack but that is not to say a deal is possible. We’re considering the options. If we had qualified for the Champions League we would certainly have made every effort to buy the player.â€

Voronin has indicated he would be happy to return to his single-season home in the Berlin Olympic stadium but not on loan again. Apart from his time in Liverpool, Voronin has played all his senior football in Germany. He joined Borussia Monchengladbach as a teenager then played at Mainz, Koln and Bayer Leverkusen.

Favre has other problems. He has axed Brazilian midfielder Lucio from his squad after problems in pre-season work and told the player he does not even want him training with the first-team squad ahead of a certain transfer.

If Voronin left I'd still want Silva, even though he couldn't really cover for Torres, I'd feel happy with Torres, Kuyt, Babel and N'gog up there.

It was obvious at the beginning there would be a lot of waiting for the absurd clubs to be finished, but as usual, its even later than expected.
 
After watching the interview with Rafa earlier today, i was left feeling a lot more confident about a new signing still coming in.

A player worthy of wearing the number 7 shirt would be a very welcome addition.
