West Brom vs Liverpool POST MATCH AUTOPSY

Should we consider keeping gerrard for the "big" games? Where his experience and ability will come to the fore.

You have to wonder if Shelvey or henderson would have contributed more today

p.s. i'm glad cole is injured.
the way things are shaping up, every game is going to be a big game for us.

Bring on carroll earlier but KEEP the ball on the ground
Which seems impossible for our players. Heskey, Crouch, Carroll. They all seem to to think they HAVE to lump hopeful long balls at them.
Don't know about Houllier's tactics, where he might have wanted that for Owen, but it's certainly not what Rafa or Dalglish wanted.

We're in for a long, long season. Too many mentally weak footballers at LFC, lose a goal and we cave in.

Obviously things conspired against us - down to 10 men, conceded 2 pens but fuck me, we need to be better than that.

Which is still mystifying as he seems to do it for Uruguay.
His shooting accuracy wan't great in Holland either, but it was at least a few times better than his time at Liverpool.

Didn't he score 60+ goals or something ridiculous one season in Holland?

Maybe it means he's due for a torrent of goals and a Van Persie like season with 30 goals 😉

Yeah but stats showed he was a poor finisher, even with his incredible goal scoring record. No where near as poor as his finishing from last season and today, though.

We're only one game in but i'm really not getting why Borini's played out on the left - he's a central striker, not a tricky winger.

Looking at the team today, apart from Skrtel, Agger and Lucas, Rodgers has only had a couple of weeks to work with them due to international commitments.

Autopsy is the right word. Hoping for not resting in peace but a resuscitation from the dead.

Besides, he must be able to cross, he whipped in some decent corners

We play with inside forwards though

Whatever.
Look at Sinclair for Swansea last season, he's a winger capable of dribbing and going past players. That's not Borini's game - he's a poacher, needs to be in and around the box, not stuck out on the left.

But borini played RWF for swansea under rodgers

AND borini scored for us while on the left against gomel

Based on this one game, i don't see why you're branding him as wasted on the left

This was his first start in the premier league.

For those saying that both penalties weren't fouls while you may have a case for saying they were on the soft side, we have seen them both given often enough to expect nothing less.
If the shoe was on the other foot I suspect a lot of the posters saying they weren't penalties would be screaming blue murder at the injustice of it all.
Our midfield was some what disjointed but in hindsight that is to be expected. Lucas will take more than a few pre seasons games to get back up to speed and more that one week in training to strike up a partnership with Allen.
It took a while for it to happen but him and Adam were forming a solid midfield unit prior to his injury and I expect greater things from him and Allen.
Downing must be doing wonderful things in training because he inspires no confidence from his match displays. I hope Assidi is as good as his You tube clips because we need a third good option in the forward three.
I wasn't particularly impressed with Rodgers bringing on Carra once Agger was sent off. He surely was expecting us to be two down so why was he shoring up the defence when we needed goals?
The only positive from today is the form of Johnson. Although on the left he did pretty well in getting forward and I am hopeful that he will thrive under Rodgers, especially as there will more than likely be less emphasis on his defending duties.
