If Mourinho made himself available to us in the Summer...

...the unthinkable happened and Jose made himself available in the Summer, declared his love for the club (again) and fancied a bit of a challenge instead of going for a role that more or less guaranteed big money, not quite a return to his Porto days but a chance to manage us in the face or huge competition.. Would you want us to go for him??

Or would you want to stick with Kenny and hope the dream continues and this all ends in the fairytale it and he deserves?
 
How anyone can extol the virtues of returning to "the Liverpool way" which we have already started to do under Kenny and in the same breath say the would love to have Mourinho as manager is beyond me.
Jose and his narciscism can feck off.

King Kenny all the way.
 
As far as I am concerned there is no vacancy.

If we did have a vacancy then yes I would want Mourinho as manager but as long as Kenny wants the job he should have the job frankly.

Heh.... I don't. I'd rather the fairytale continued, personally. Let's not kid ourselves though, it wouldn't be the easiest choice because his record is phenomenal.

I think that's more or less how I feel, it'd just feel alot more special with Kenny anyway.
 
Mourinho is a top quality manager; but we need someone to instil belief in ourselves again and he can't do it better than Kenny can.

My hope is that Kenny makes us a top club again; and when he's finally decided he wants to go that we have the top managers all clamouring to come here again; and to not get turned down by the likes of Didier Deschamps and Frank Rijkaard.
 
I've changed my mind on this. We had a similar thread when the King first got the job and I voted Mourinho, though not without some hesitation, as it wasn't yet clear that the King would like the job permanently or indeed that NESV would consider appointing him on that basis. Both those things now do seem pretty clear, so the King gets my vote this time.

Incidentally I don't agree with my friend the count's dismissal of Mourinho, but that's another discussion.

[/quote] I don't underestimate Mourinho's ability or record as manager.
I do however feel that if he were to become Liverpool manager we would compromise much of what constitutes "the Liverpool way" in the pursuit of success.
I realise that Liverpool exists in most of our minds to win trophys but in my opinion having Jose as manager would be tantamount to selling the very soul that has made our club, at least in our own minds, unique.
 
I would say it's quite a long time yet to the summer and the end of the season.
I think we need some continuity and things are , or seem, to be going far better than I imagined they could, I get a warm feeling inside when I see Kenny speaking in the press and getting excited when we score and fingers crossed that continues, but who knows what will happen in the coming weeks/months.

The very reason I was not calling for Kenny to do the job when Hodgson was given it was that I did not want to see him fail and secondly I thought he had been on the periphery too long, the latter does not seem to have been an issue at all, he has shown himself to be far more astute in the short time with us than we have seen from a Liverpool manager for many-a-year.

Count - I respect your view, but I don't share it. My reading of Mourinho is that much of what he's done over the years, and in particular the way he's done it, has been (a) for show and (b) to draw attention away from his players so they can get on with their jobs. My bet is that, if he were ever to come here, he'd do what's expected of a Liverpool manager - and, as you say, one of the things that involves is winning, of which there's no better exponent in the club game anywhere.

Agree with all of that, Vlad. Mark's question seems to me to be based on the assumption that things have continued to go well meanwhile.

On the other hand King Kenny is Liverpool and I always advocated his return because I though that he had unfinished business with us. A winner and true giant of the game.

Its heart over head. Tough call but I gotta stick with homegrown. King Kenny shades it for me.

I wouldn't say he has no fear, he puts on a big front and doesn't seem to have many qualms about walking if things don't go his way.

I think jose will be hard pressed to win any silverware this year unless it's the copa del ray
 
I don't know about walking if things don't go his way.
He left Porto when he won the CL, since when they have not been the same, he left Chelsea when Abramovitch started meddling in team affairs, clearly the Shevchenko(?) thing was the beginning of the end, and he won the treble with Inter Milan and left for whatever reason possibly he knew a rebuild was due and limited funds available , or probably he just did not seem to fit in in Italy

Jose may well be hard pressed to win any silverware but one thing I wouldn't do is count him out just yet. Front or not, he takes on all comers - head on and usually comes out on top.

Don't for a minute think he wasn't taking notes watching the Gooners beat Barca. He'll have a trick or 2 up his sleeve yet.
 
I hope it all continues with Kenny anyway, I just wanted to see what peoples thoughts were now on Jose, given he was on most peoples 'wish' lists in the Summer.

He's quality, but Kenny is our own and there's nothing I'd like more than seeing him win the Premiership.
 
So long as the results keep up then it would be completely wrong to look past Kenny Dalglish.

Dalglish looks to be the perfect man to take this club forward.

Jose is the most overhyped manager in the game. He is good though.
 
what jose acheived at porto was fantastic but since then he has carefully picked his projects (even milan aren't the duffers people make them out to be). the task at liverpool is much more difficult.
 
Rosco, Jose couldn't take notes that day. He was shell shocked not to mention embarassed and probably felt suicidal too.

Who could blame him though? That was an awe inspiring Barca exhibition of football. Everything just came off for them.

Let's see how he handles the return leg.

Another way of looking at it is that they went looking for him because he's the best there is.
