There was a real buzz around when Rafael Benitez took over at Liverpool, and after Istanbul (04/05) it was just a matter of when we won the Title again.

Jump forward to the 2009/10 season and only a FA Cup (05/06 season) being the only other piece of silverware to speak of Liverpool finished 7th and Benitez was fired...

2010/11 Season we saw Roy Hodgson installed as Liverpool manager and after a string of poor result sacked (January 8th) the return of and old face Kenny Dalglish took over (January 8th) the role. A season in which we finished 6th

2011/12
A season in which we won the League Cup, but only after a penalty shot out and Liverpool finishing 8th in the League

2012/13
In steps Brendan Rodgers in in his first season as manager he fares no better than his predicators with Liverpool finishing 7th

2013/14
Saw a dramatic turn around and Liverpool finishing 2nd in the League. The fans were buzzing again. But that buzz was short lived as the following season (2014/15) we only managed 6th in the league
2015/16
On 4 October 2015 Rodgers was sacked and on 8 October 2015 Jürgen Klopp was appointed manager
Despite finishing 8th in the league that season we played in the UEFA Europa League final. Liverpool faced Sevilla, losing 1–3
2016/17
Liverpool qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 2014/15 finishing 4th in the league
2017/18
We would go on the make The Champions League final and lose 3-1 the Real Madrid, but it would also see us again finish 4th in the league
2017/18
Man’ City win the title on 98 points with Liverpool in second 1 point behind, both teams some distance clear of Chelsea in third, and sees Liverpool winning the Champions League for a sixth time
2019/20
Starts with wins in the Super Cup, The World Club Championship, and culminates in winning The Title after 30 plus years with Man City second, some 18 points adrift.

So, what’s gone wrong

If I thought I was that, I can't speak for Bluebell, But I would never post anywhere, ever again If I thought that it would turn things around

This team hit the wall about 12 months sooner than expected. I thought they had another season of high level football in them. They didn't. We need to accept it now, next season and maybe the one after will be transitional rebuilding efforts. This current side will not win or challenge for the title next year.

FFS - you missed a perfect opportunity there to degrade our 2005 CL and 2006 FA Cup wins by adding "(but only after a penalty shootout)" at the end

tart

What went wrong?

In my entire 25 years of supporting the club we've never had truly ambitious owners. David Moores never had real financial muscle, Hicks and Gillette were a shitshow, and FSG run the club as a business to make profit.

So, whenever we're in a position to kick on and dominate, we sit back and do nothing.

*Edit - its a miracle the club stays where it is at the top end of the game and hasn't become a midtable club.

Retaining a league title was always going to be a hard task made even harder by a catalogue of injuries. The owners failed to invest and reinvigorate when it was necessary to do so.
The failure this season has been to sign defenders at the beginning of the transfer window rather than the last day. We were top of the league leading upto Xmas. We then lose all our CBs and go on this disastrous run until Fabs goes back in Mf and we have proper CBs in defence. We then have players who have more or less played continually since the start of the season, and some of them are now fatigued.
The CL loss to RM was Klopp's mistake from the 1st leg. The 2nd leg was always going to be an uphill climb, especially with a pragmatic manager like Zidane.

Yes, Klopp messed up the away leg. Still got some credits in his account though.
Couldn't agree more. Hopefully this year is a learning curve especially for the owners. Their frugalness could cost the, £100m if we don't make top 4.

Taking in what you are saying Blue' but how then does that explain the darmatic fall away in form after lock down in the title winning run? Or our teams inability to break down other teams, and the forwards drop off in form, all struggling to score goals while Jota seems to be scoring regularly which goes against what is happening with Mane,Frimino and in part Salah.
There are just too many player underperforming at the same time. The majority of teams in the Premier League have the same problem with "fatigue" many of which have smaller squads; yet we are struggling against them when two seasons earlier we were blowing them away at this stage of the season.

We won 5 major trophies, came 2nd twice, and reached 3 more European finals.

What's gone wrong? Your expectations.

We hit some magnificent highs in the pass five years under Klopp, we saw the team steadily improve, and then towards the end of that title run just suddenly fell of the cliff and are almost in free fall. I don't see what my expectations have to do with it, Especially when asked and anwsered to predict where Liverpool would finish this season(2021/22),I said that we would be battling it out for 4th. So you see that I was not expecting a great seaon, but I did think that we would be doing better and closer, if not in 4th spot at the moment
And here is the thing...

Next game is Leeds, and do I believe that we will win that game? The anwser is No. At this point I would take a draw

Do you think that’d be the last Supper cup we’d ever win ?
Lol... Along with the susage finger, and either double hitting keys or just making mistake I real need to proof read in truth I got half way through it and my brain said "That's It. I'm out of here". just could not read anymore 😀

Ok, in that case, here's what went "wrong": Fatigue, injuries to key players, covid, no crowds, caution with investing in uncertain times (though we do have a spanking new training complex and signed two very good players for the first team), lots of players losing form at the same time, insane VAR decisions against us, etc, etc.

We're not in free fall. We're experiencing one of our worst runs in living history, and yet we're still in with a shout of a CL place, we still have a world class manager and brilliant players, and we're still the champions.

We lose all our CB's lose all balance in the squad. The CBs were crucial in our set plays.
If VVD and Jota weren't injured would we be easily in the top 4?

Pep, learnt his lesson last season and came back more pragmatic - hopefully this season Liverpool will do the same.

We came back from lockdown looking a ghost of the team that was put every club to the sword, strugling to score goals and win games, and that's very much what it has been like all season.
The poblems we have run deep and I fear that the only way we can fix them is by bring in players while getting rid of the dead wood that we have and that will be two, three or maybe even four seasons down the road before we can challenge for the title again

We will not get 4th place, and even if we had VVD and Jota fit I doubt we would still have made the 4th spot.

I wonder if, in time, we’ll get more insight into the teams that have performed well during COVID Vs the teams that haven’t.

Whether that’s the impact of fan-free stadiums, the personal challenges that impact players on an individual level, the way in which teams function together, individual personalities - not sure, but lots of things will be playing a part.

I’m sure Sheffield Utd fans are wondering why a team that performed so well last season - has done so badly this year - now that’s freefall.

Equally - no-one predicted West Ham would be pushing for CL qualification.

Utd have arguably done better without fans in the stadium than with - no real change for City - they were already used to playing in empty stadiums.
