he purchased lfc for business reasons.
It makes him no money now. The fans hate him. Its lost huge value. it has off field and on field issues. revenues will drop heavily this financial year with unlikely turn around in the short term. thereare buyers willing to buy to leave him some profit.

So why on earth does he want full control of the club?

but ANYWAY, the reason hick bought the club and the reason he will do everything to keep hold of the club (for at least the next couple of years) is the tv/internet rights revert back to the clubs. after that liverpool can either choose to show their own games on the internet/tv or sell the rights again. potentially we're talking billions.

If these 'deals' are to be so lucrative I would've thought every bank would be queueing up to refinance him as 2-3 years to wait is a moment in investment terms.

hence the reason I refuse to get excited until RBS call the loans in.
 
Well, caution is certainly called for, but (a) neil's described what the deal consists of and it seems a decent enough prospect to me, plus (b) I don't think it's a simple calculation as far as the banks are concerned. RBS has already decided to put Hicks' debt in with its other "toxic assets". Other banks will look, indeed probably have looked, at that and will realise - rightly - that he's a bad risk.

it would lower liverpool value when they negotiate price but given the worldwide support for liverpool I wouldn't have thought they price would drop 'that' much.
think about it, if liverpool stopped/blocked every single stream of their matches and then charged £1 each game to watch the game live from LFC.TV, how much money are we talking, EACH GAME?
 
There are many motives for this abnormal huge asshole.

First of all he wants to show he is a Texan and we dont mess with them. He will surrender the club when HE decides and to the terms dictated by HIM.

Second of all he is stripped of everything else. He doesnt have anything, so Liverpool fits the bill as a cash cow for him a little while until he reeastblish something else.

Third of all he doesnt care of what happens to the club at all when he is done with it. If it is wiped of the map it is none of his concern. So if that means the club loose another 200 mill pounds the next year it will not be his personal money and he has only lost his initial input anyway...

didn't he leave corinthians virtually broke by the time he eventually left them (he promised to build them a stadium too).
no doubt about it the guy has 'previous'.

For that to happen Neil there would have to be agreement with all our opponents as well.
That would mean agreement with the Premier league and with Uefa for Champions/Europa league matches.
I doubt if this sort of TV deal will happen.

I kinda agree liverpool will sell the rights back to sky etc, but personally I think they (LFC) would make more money if they distributed the matches themselves.

Honestly though, I have the same question, I don't understand why he passed up opportunities to sell the club for a modest profit, other than as a massive error, and I don't understand what he thinks the end game is to his holding on to the club that will make him a larger profit either.

welli can't remember the exact timing of rejection of DIC's offer but i think it might have been pre-credit crunch, and after that happened he was pretty much screwed in the short-term. i don't think there's any other way to analyse that than as a big error, really.

as for clinging on now, i suppose the best way of looking at it is that he's at rock bottom now, and that things can only get better from here. right now he risks losing the club and the £70m or so he's invested: if he manages to hold on until the tv deal then there'still a small chance he can make a profit. he's got nothing to lose, really.
