Why we shouldn't have signed Suarez

Not open for further replies.
You know to a lesser degree I would have agreed with him back then. Maybe not in December but around July/August that year.
I was pretty pissed off at Suarez after what he did against Ghana considering that I was backing them to win it.

But as soon as he was linked to us...."ALL WAS FORGIVEN"!

If Diego Maradona had wanted to sign for us immediately after the "Hand of God" incident I'd have taken him in a heartbeat. For sure things like that are annoying, but cheating happens everywhere in football. Not wanting to sign someone who's cheated will see the squad down to about 3 players before long.

Cheating is cheating i'll give you that, but varies in size and importance

if we were linked t oa player who consistently dived in the centre circle i'd think "fuck off, there is no need"
The one instance of suarez cheating was in a world cup quarter final where he was on the line. Anyone would have, and should have done it. If it was unpunished then i'd think he's a spawny get, but he was red carded and the opposition had the chance to score the pen

they fucked it up

I just received a message from Terry Butcher. He doesn't want to shake your hand any more.

Zackly. I'll bet a lot of the annoyance over this actually stems from the fact that Ghana were ultimately not good enough to capitalise on the opportunity.

Thing is, he was seen to rejoice in Ghana's fuck up and the Corinthian Ideal we have buried at the bottom of the garden, was unearthed and sullied.

It was less revelling in their misfortune, more revelling in the fact his team were nearly in a world cup semi final. If he had ran up to gyan and doe a NERRRRRRRRR face then i'd agree.

for uruguay thats a phenomenal achievement

As for the man himself, the fact that he went from being a teenager who spoke no Dutch to becoming skipper of Ajax Amsterdam - a club of impeccable pedigree - says a lot more than one heat-of-the-moment incident which many other players would probably have replicated anyway.

Yes, but he'd done a bad bad thing and so, should not be seen to be happy about nowt.

GIVE US OUR POUND OF FLESH !

Remember when that dick Henchoz handled the ball on the line in the FA cup final and meant Liverpool won another trophy.
Bloody cheat :🙂

Look, let's cut the doo doo !

We've let Luis off/forgiven his cheatin' ass because he's been the absolute BOSS BOOM-LICK for us.

If he'd been crap, we would all be condemning him for what he did that night in South Africa.

Bollox...its all bollox........he'd do the same for us. What Rob Jones should have done in the 96 cup final when cantona's shot was heading for the net!! He's a team player and I reckon he would literally do anything to win!! We need more players like that and if the rest of the league and their fans dont like it...then fuck them!!!! 8)

tbf to ghana they didn't do anything wrong - i've always thought there's something seriously wrong with the rule that a goalbound shot can be handballed off the line and all you get in return is a penalty. it's bollocks, and it encourages players to cheat - even if 90% of the action's instinct. the punishment should be a yellow card and a goal, or a setpiece equivalent to a goal (for example, a shot from the 6 yard line at an open goal).

it's like how lucas's winning goal against everton in 2007 was chalked off and we all had to suffer the tension of kuyt taking the penalty. it's a bollocks rule - i don't blame suarez, i blame FIFA.

I remember feeling slightly gutted for Ghana when that happened as I knew as soon as they missed the penalty Uruguay would go on to win it. What he done was cheating but it wasn't dirty, it wasn't like he deliberately wrecked a player. He took one for the team and it came off. He knew he would get a red card for it but he done it.

'oh, boo hoo ghana for not scoring'

if we were in a european cup final and someone stopped a certain goal with their hands and then we lost the game on penalties I hope you'd be able to shrug it off as easily and get on with it 'well, it IS our fault we failed to score the penalty...no biggie'.

suarez is ace, we look far less of a threat when he doesn't play and I'm over the moon we have him but what he did was fucked up. if someone cost us a major title in the manner that suarez denied ghana I'd want them killed.

I'd be spitting tacks about it, but not for a second would I try to blame anybody but us for not putting our penos away.

i agree with you neil, it was a complete travesty for ghana, and anyone saying it's their fault for missing the pen is being incredibly harsh, but i don't think it reflects particularly badly on suarez. most players would've done the same, given the totally inadequate rules of the game.

If he just stood there and let it go in he'd have been equally ridiculed. We were laughing our heads off when Phil Neville saved Lucas' shot and got sent off.

the truth is suarez showed his will to win even if it meant blatent cheating, to be honest we need more of that front to back in our team especially if we want to earn three point when things are going tits up.

It was harsh on Ghana, I'll be honest, because they were having a great World Cup, but he took it for the team, he knew he'd get a ban and he showed as much when he cried leaving the pitch. I'd sooner him do that than act like a cock for personal glory, ala Balotelli.

we definately need to start cheating some more away from home. for instance we take the lead and then allow the opposition to to build up a head of steam and then comes the inevitable equaliser, we need to do things like go down easily under a challenge and then stay down so it completely takes the momentum out of the game. we're too nice.

I agree Themn.

Re: suarez, shows how much of a team player he is. He was willing to sacrifice himself playing in a world cup semi final, for his team

That's what I was trying to get at with my ramble earlier but I've been drinking and I wasn't so concise.

Harry Kewell handled the ball on the line to stop a certain goal during the same world cup.

Is he a cunt too?

..... oh?

I didn't read the Poulsen garbage? Did he really provide a case for him at this late stage. Jesus.

He seems to pick a polar opposite viewpoint in a pathetic attempt to make himself seem that little bit more intelligent than the 'average' fan. Sadly he comes across a bit.. well... erm..mental as per usual.
