Just like to highlight the crazy price Slovakia are to win the world cup 550/1. They have Weiss (man city) and Stoch (chelsea) on either side of midfield (both hugely talented youngsters), Hamsik of Napoli in central midfield who is/has being courted by many of the top teams in Europe (including us apparently), a couple of very useful forwards in Sestak and Vittel and a decent defence which includes Skrtel.
They finished ahead of the Czechs and Poland in their group and if either of those teams had qualified they would be about 80/1 instead of 550/1. Just because Slovakia do not (supposedly) have a decent pedigree in world football they have been dismissed. I say supposedly because they actually provided 10 of the Czechoslovakian team that won the 1976 European Championship and the majority of the Czechoslovakian players in the 1930's and 1960's who reached 2 world cup finals!
Obviously they're a long shot but 550/1 has to be worth a couple of quid.
I'm laying the crap out of Brazil - I just don't fancy them at all. Robinho is hugely overrtaed, yes he talented but he plays for himself and only fleetingly. Elano is a thoroughly average player and up front they don't have a Ronaldo, Romario, Zico quality striker this time. I have got 5/6 (Betfair) that they don't make the semi finals.
Spain obviously should win the world cup but anyone backing them at 4/1 should be shot, it's a crazy price especially as their defence is not the strongest and they don't have Senna this time to patrol in front of said defence.

It is a joke at 14/1 but can't quite be 55/1 just because the bets are related. If Spain have won the tournament and you don't know who has won the boot you'd be happy to back Villa at 10's.

Exactly, and if Villa is the top scorer with about 7 goals then there's a very good chance Spain will win the world cup - However 14/1 is pathetic, the correct price should be about 18/1.

Yup, although I've bet on them to win outright but because I've done it on Betfair I will trade some of my bet if they qualify. Stoch was FC Twente's best players as they won the Dutch league and Weiss had a coupe of superb games in qualifying where he tore defences to pieces (including the funny one where he turned Jonny Evans inside out) and with those two kids supplying Sestak and Vittel (2 more than useful forwards) i can see them putting 3 or 4 past NZ.
Hamsik in CM is the real diamond though and I think he'll sign for a top team after the world cup.

Obviously their pivotal game will be against paraguay but it's another game I can see them winning.

I'm thinking of backing France not to get out of Group A. They were shocking in their qualifying group and haven't been any better in the warm up matches in the run-up to the World Cup. The hosts are in the great form, at just the right time and of course they've got the home support. Mexico, who I feel could go very far this tournament, have played some tough opposition in the warm up matches as good preparation which should bode them well over the next month. And Uruguay who have a good all round team and a lethal strike force.
12/5 last time I checked on Bet365 for Javier Hernandez (if he starts) anytime scorer v South Africa. Great value. Most other firms go between 6/4 and 15/8. It's a totally wrong price.
Banged in 3 goals in last 3 friendly games and South Africa are loose at the back.

A little Hernandez related story...his dad is the manager of Chivas' reserve side but they wouldn't give him time off to watch his son at the World Cup so he more or less told them where to go and said that family is more important. So hopefully he'll impress in front of Hernandez Snr.
