Really hoping we don't have to face Colombia ! Enigmatic and dangerous team and I'd love to see them do really well.

If we get through the last 16 game against, Japan/Senegal/Colombia, then we could be facing Brazil or Mexico (assuming we win the group) or Sweden or Switzerland if we finish behind Belgium. Better to lose to Belgium now!

Whichever way it goes it looks like the quarters are the end of the line unless we can end up playing Mexico where we'd have a decent chance.

England are winning the World Cup !!

Brazil is beatable and Germany is lucky. WIth a little bit of graft and luck England can progress past these teams. I actually think Mexico is more dangerous - they could win the whole thing this year - they look like they believe.
 
The World Cup is a cruel mistress.
It's usually won by some undeserving big side that prodded its way through the group stages with shit defensive football then flukes a few 1-0/ PK wins in the knockouts.

So that's Belgium, England, Mexico and Croatia fked. " Curse of the Entertainers".

France, Argentina and Brazil have the best shot now.
 
Im worried for my France bet. They have a twat of a route to the final. I know there are no easy games like but...

They have to get past Argentina, then either Portugal or Uruguay, then probably Spain or Croatia.

Drifted out to 10/1 to win it (I backed them at 7/1 before the start of the WC)
 
We need to lose to Belgium to face the winner of Group H 1H Japan/Senegal/Colombia and then meet Sweden or Switzerland in the quarters!
 
I don't see Columbia as a threat of any kind. Yes they looked good the other day, but personally I think they are not solid enough both in midfield and defensively. We will twat in of those teams in the last 16 that we have to face. Also - don't give a shit about us facing Brazil - I thought I had seen the worst Brazil team ever in the last world cup but this one has taken it to another level with all that poncing around that Neymar does. No player should be more influential than the coach - how a country like Brazil let this happen is beyond me. Fucking Neymar of the French league - not worth one toe of Brazil's past greats.
 
We really REALLY don't want to win our group ! Look at the other side of the draw (if we win the group).

Runners-Up
Beat Sweden or Switzerland, and their possible semi-final opponents would be Spain, Russia, Croatia or Denmark. At that point, those four sides will be narrowed down from Sunday's last-16 ties (Spain v Russia and Croatia v Denmark).
Reach the final from there, and England will face whoever has emerged from the other side of the draw, which could be any side from France, Argentina, Uruguay, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Belgium and the runners-up from Group H.
 
It's easier to see in this, top half if we win, bottom half of we lose:

You'll see exactly how stupid they are when they beat Belgium, probably with Harry Kane deleriously celebrating another hatrick.

They would never have made it past Colombia anyway, so at least now they can beat Japan before another heroic defeat in the quarters.
 
So. Either a tougher Last 16 game or by far the hardest side of the draw. Now we have to hope we get to play Colombia!

  • If England top their group they will play Japan in Rostov on Monday evening.
  • If England finish second they will play Colombia in Moscow on Tuesday evening

I think those results have almost made it a toss up to be fair.
Columbia
Spain
Croatia
In one side of the draw

Brazil
Portugal
France or Argentina in the other

For me Croatia have been the best side so far, Spain on there day can ruin a team and Columbia are dangerous. Not to mention we ALWAYS do shit against Sweden.

If Japan or Senegal had topped the group its a no brainer. Now I dont see much in it. And I think going and beating Belgium would be a massive boost for the lads.

So I hope we win. I didnt until the results of those games put Columbia top.

Brave words, that you'd end up regretting the moment you see Stones line up against Messi, Ronaldo, Griezmann or Coutinho. England should try everything they can to lose today and there's no other way about it.

Yep...so it matters fuck all who we face in the quarters. I actually think some teams build on momentum as they progress so in my view it is better to face them early while they are still building as i think we are in much better shape.

@Halmeister - please start looking for potential destinations to migrate to because England have a 90% chance ... its there for the taking everyone.

Nah...their true abilities are now on display..none of those players can cause us problems.

As opposed to Costa, Modric, Mandzukic, Rodriguez and Falcao

Its hardly an easy route on this side.

Not easy, I would expect Colombia to destroy them with ease. But it's still easier facing a bunch of £50m players than £100m players. That's the difference between the two sides of the draw.

Happy enough. Decent game between the respective reserves.

England now have a great chance of reaching the semis (not that I'll see any more matches - I leave to go hiking in Kyrgyzstan for a month on Sunday) 😀

I much prefer Colombia then Sweden or Switzerland to the alternative : Japan then likely France or Brazil!
