Its taken Benitez 5 weeks to realise what virtually everyone else realised at the start of the season; with Xabi gone Gerrard needs to drop back as a Lucas/Masch centre mid is crap.
rafa hasn't realised anything, the only reason why gerrard played central midfield was masher was injuried. it will be gerrard behind torres as usual for the west ham game.
Only if Mascher is available...
Yep.

He's still in Argentina at the moment, allthough he's expected back before the CL game.

Always been a fan of Yossi.

Yes, he's not the most physical but he doesn't need to be as he has that "intelligence" to unlock defences with little slide rule passes from the in the hole position.

Yossi should, at the moment, be a starter for all home games and away games against "footballing" sides. And he only cost us £6m so perhaps this should be chalked up as a positive transfer from Benitez?

Oh, most definitely. He's turned out to be a bit of a bargain for us - the perfect squad player.

Rafa has got an interview on the official citing Yossi as a good example to follow and proof that hard work pays off - wonder who that is directed at...

Benitez: Javier not yet back

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez revealed Javier Mascherano has yet to return from international duty with Argentina after he picked up a pelvic injury.

The midfielder suffered the injury as the Albicelestes' World Cup hopes took a further blow with defeat by Paraguay.

Benitez said: "He's still not returned, (but) he'll be back (before Wednesday). The problem was minor, but we needed to have the checks made straightaway."

Our best team for non top quality competition?

Reina

Johnson Carra Agger Insua*

Gerrard Aquilani

Kuyt Yossi Riera

Torres

*I prefer the pace and solidness I feel Insua gives us. I am hoping Aqua can help with some dead ball situations such as corner kicks. So we don't need Aurelio

Best team for top opposition?

Reina

Johnson Carra Skrtel^ Aurelio`

Masch Aqua

Kuyt Gerrard Riera

Torres

^better defensively, imo
`tactically more aware and probably more important in these types of games

Yesterday, Yossi was mesmerising, almost Messi like for hos first goal. His interchange with Kuyt was fantastic.

Play him behind Torres.
DO NOT play him behind Torres......it was Burnley yesterday..even I would have looked like Messi against them. Remember that we have only beaten Stoke, Bolton an Burnley and any backup in the squad should be able to do a job against those teams. But in the long term there should be no doubting who plays behind Torres...at least once Aquilani's fit.

Aquilani's not fit for a good while yet. In the mean time Yossi should be nearer Torres than Gerrard, IMO, who should be displacing Lucas in the middle of the park.

"I don't know anyone who is happy to sit on the bench but at Liverpool that can happen," said Benayoun. "There are so many good players here but from the first day I have said that, if I get my opportunities, I want to take them and prove I deserve to play.

"Sometimes it has been good and sometimes not for me. All you can do is work hard and take that chance to prove yourself when it comes. I had a few ups and downs in the first two years but I showed in the last five months of last season that I can play better. You have to accept that you will sit on the bench sometimes and take the chance when you are on the pitch."

That's a fantastic attitiude.
Yossi has matured a lot since his day at Ajax (he was 17 and homesick, so he came back to israel). He did have that bust up with the Israeli national coach last week, but that's an exception in his normally mature and calm behaviour.
Maybe Rafa should use players like Yossi and Dirk to mentor youngsters such as Babel. I'm sure he can learn a lot from them about professionalism.

I should dig up yossi's quotes when he wasn't getting a regular run in the team (people don't remember what he said but I do). yossi is in terrific form, (hooray!) and should be a regular in the team but let's not make out he was a paragon of virtue when he wasn't a regular in the team.

Agree generally, but I wouldn't have Riera in the second side. On current form, I'd prefer Yossi on the left. Yes, we may lack balance to some extent, but at least Yossi actually does something with the ball when he gets it, rather than merely keeping possession and passing it back to someone else.

Actions speak louder than words.

He worked harder and is now playing well.

Babel seems more interested in mouthing off and singing rap, which is incidentally as bad as his football.

I like Babel, I think he has a lot of talent which is what 11 million was spunked on.

Utter fucking waster.

Its taken Benitez 5 weeks to realise what virtually everyone else realised at the start of the season; with Xabi gone Gerrard needs to drop back as a Lucas/Masch centre mid is crap.
Impossible to say whether this has cost us points, we'll never know. We couldn't have expected a Yossi hat-trick but I think we all knew we'd be better this way.
He really didn't though, it was forced on him, still perhaps he would have anyway.
It was clear that this was almost the right formation, and breaking up the disastrous Lucas Masher partnership had to be done and for the greater good of the team, Gerrard had to drop back, we have been shown to be right.
Don't anyone get kidded , Lucas played well with Stevie, but Masher will play better.
Rafa just needs to fine tune this for a few weeks until Aqualani is available by playing Dirk right and Yossi behind Torres.

regards

spot on. i really hope the only changes we see for west ham is masch in for lucas and kuyt staying right a bit more

He had barely featured for 6 months and merely said he would consider his position at the end of the season if he wasn't getting any game time.

Hardly a stoning offence.

And he backed it up by playing very well when given a chance.
