So I was walking to school last week for the drop off. A fun thing happened. I was listening to Tom Waits on my headphones while he was busy munching on blackberries on the canal path. That sounds like I'm being a shit dad maybe but then where I live it's ok. So he turns to me and said
"Dad what are you listening to?"
"Tom Waits - Fancy a listen?" - Thinking there's no way he's going to be liking this. He's only 5. Too young right?
Anyway little guy starts singing "Jockey Full Of Bourbon" to me on the way home. (Admittedly that is a slightly ironic tune coming from me!)
So yesterday he pipes up.
"Dad can I listen to that song again and maybe another?"
So I hand over the Bose blu's and away we go. I just kept getting .
"Dad I would love to hear more" - Later that week was 'Girl from Ipanema' and then Sam Cooke. Little guy is wandering around the house with my headphones on right now listening to 'Bring it on home to me'!
He's soooo much cooler than I ever will be!
My Dad did the same with me with Pink Floyd and Bob Marley. Do you fellas sort your nippers out with music?
I mean I know kids can be a bit shit and annoying most of the time but really they are awesome and totally blow my mind on a daily basis.
Next up might be Orbital or maybe Quantic. Maybe a step too far? 🙂
