This new striker....

Tony Barrett reporting it as well... I must be mad, but a one-year deal to fill the gap before Origi arrives next season seems to make a lot of sense to me. I wish it was him of 10 years ago obviously, but 9 in 21 last season isn't half bad.

Fuckkkkkk offffffff Eto'o. Eto'o and bloody lambert on the bench?? No thanks. I'd rather have we have kept Origi and put him on the bench than Eto'o. Proper desperation if we sign him. Just pay the bloody money for Bony if we can't get anyone better.

Wow, that's pretty depressing. I really don't understand why we don't just bung Lille another £3-4m and take Origi a year early. Solves the problem at a stroke.

this would be seriously depressing but he'd probably do alright for us. has his level dropped dramatically?

Fine let's sign Eto'o.

Sturridge - first choice and injury prone
Eto'o - second choice and injury prone
Borini - third choice and injury prone
Lambert - fourth choice and I've got nothing.

If this is true: They've known since May that Suarez was leaving, and Remy was the only answer? A player with known health issues. If this is true, then this is disgraceful.

I had more faith in our owners that this - Let's wait and see - but perhaps FSG is looking to hold onto that Suarez money for whatever reason

Eto is a shit signing if true and just screams that we can't sign a top striker.

Though CL footy was meant to give us that platform but we haven't signed anyone who we couldn't have signed without it. We need to think a bit bigger.

Our first choice replacement got told by his missus they had to move to london.
Our 2nd choice failed his fucking medical in New York on the pre-season trip.
And Bony's too expensive.

You're being way melodramatic.

Etoo, blimey, what was i saying just yesterday about us wandering around in a haze not knowing how to recover from the Suarez blow?, looks like we might have some brain damage if Etoo is deemed an answer.

This is exactly the sort of shite why it looks like the owners didn't have any intention of letting Suarez leave this summer (if he had behaved), surely we wouldn't have been flapping around for these types of signings if they knew Suarez was off?

I don't know what to think at this point. my faith in them has always made me feel optimistic.

but this is starting to look a little incompetent.

  • Remy has a history of failing medicals, so it's pretty lame to get surprised by that.
  • Sanchez coming to Liverpool was always a stretch

So yeah it seems we don't have much of a plan in place. And this Et'o like is so confusing I don't even know where to put his comma.

Could it just be that we have tried all the top dogs and the response is either:
1) Liverpool ain't London
2) We have been out of CL so long that the top players don't think we actually that good.
3) lack of other top players in world at our club.

I don't believe we have not tried.

Lol...

I dont really blame the owners. If there is no suitable long term alternative available, Id rather hang on to the money than blow it all on Andy Carroll (or wilfred bony ...samething really) and spend the entire season with buyers remorse.

But id spend a couple of mil more on Podolski instead of eto if we are looking short term.

Loan David Villa for 2 months until the A league starts? Although the Man City owners control Melbourne City too don't they?

Or we don't have the money we thought we had

This would have been okay if it was him that came in instead of Lambert and then we still got an attacker ahead of him in the pecking order. Plus I think he'd suit our style more. But the pair of them and that's it is a bit shit.

Hard to argue with that.

We made attempts to sign Sanchez, Remy, Falcao and Cavani, how much bigger do you want to go ?

Remy is the only one of that bunch I'm genuinely convinced we tried for.

We really didn't put in enough effort for Sanchez.

Well none of us know what actually went on though all the ITKs and the foreign media were convinced in each case, I seriously doubt we've just sat on our hands for 2 months.

I get the feeling we basically just listened to Cavani/Falcao's transfer and wage demands, and realized we were hilariously priced out. No real effort put forth by the club, as they were just too financially unrealistic.

We should have put out all of the stops for Sanchez though, which we clearly didn't do. What makes it worse is he went to a direct rival.

How do you know we didn't ? Both offers were accepted so obviously we matched Arsenal's bid. It's well documented that he chose the Arse because of his wife's predilection for London. I thought we could have maybe just slapped another £10m on the table and said to the Arse .... match that. However if the player is adamant he won't move to the North of England then that's pretty much that.

If you see how the big clubs operate when they're courting a player, they very publicly make it clear that the player would be a great addition. Former players, current players, and coaches are found quoted in the press all praising the transfer target. You get Coutinho mentioning how much he admires Sanchez's playstyle and uses it to mold his own, and so on.

Then you get your key people directly on the line with the player. Have Rodgers talk to Sanchez, and explain his philosophy and why it will succeed. You reach out to Mascherano, and have him hype Liverpool as a perfect destination for Sanchez in the Spanish papers.

If nothing else though, you stump up more dough. 30k more in wages than Arsenal are offering? Sure, but you have to take the deal now. Oh wait, Gerrard is in the room too, and he's selling you on the prospect of Liverpool. Alexis, do you remember that trophy case you walked by on the way in? How about an extra 5M Barca, if you encourage Alexis to join us?

And if all else fails, we explain to him what a terrible person Piers Morgan is, and how he's Arsenal's biggest supporter.
