Best FWs to wear a Liverpool Shirt

1. Ian Rush
2. John Barnes
3. Salah
4. Suarez
5. Fowler
6. Torres
7. Aldridge

(nb I did not witness King Kenny, Keegan or Toshack etc) so couldn't comment what place they'd be. The list does not have to be 7. You can make it short or as long as you like

I've said it several times before, but the best forward I've ever SEEN play for us is Suarez.
Granted, my first LFC memories were from the late 80s so I missed some greats from the early 80s, 70s and so on.
I've never seen someone with the tenacity, grit, determination, mixed in with genius level intelligence and instinct like that filthy Uruguayan.
I was reminded by it a few days ago when I saw this:

I mean, seriously?!

I take it that we're talking about forwards and not strikers and yes, I'm well aware of Salah's exploits.
We tend to forget that Suarez was a set piece specialist too. How many free kicks did he score?
He was also versatile. His natural position was probably on the left, but he could play on the right and obviously upfront as well.
Maybe you think it's hyperbolic, but he had it all. A complete forward just like Gerrard was the complete midfielder.

Anyway, enough wanking over Suarez, here's my list:

1. Suarez
2. Salah
3. Sadio
4. Torres
5. Rush
6. Owen
7. Fowler ( he'd be higher up if we were talking strikers)
8. Firmino

Left Barnes out cause imo he was more of a winger than a forward.
Forward is an ambiguous term. Are we talking LW, RW, CF, ST? Or are we including LM, RM, AM as well?
My list is based on versatility and ability to create their own chances and assists, more than just pure goal scoring.

We have been blessed with many of the finest attackers the English game has seen. In terms of pure talent then Suarez is way out in front (in my time at least). I'm always interested in how more experienced posters assess Suarez against Dalglish.

Salah is the most consistently productive. I rank peak Owen and Torres pretty similarly. I was slightly too young to fully appreciate Fowler and injuries had started to take their toll.

1.Fowler (There is only one God)
2,Suarez
3. Salah
4. Sadio
5. Rush
6. Keegan
7. Torres
8. Frimino
9. Sturrigde

What a player Suarez was, had absolutely everything. You could actually say he had too much but if you toned anything down it wouldn’t be the same player.

It's impossible to rank them all, for a multitude of reasons...

That said, in my lifetime, I've got Kenny, Digger and Suarez as the best pure footballers to ever play forward for us, with Rushie, Fowler and Torres as the best goal scorers. Sadio, Mo and Bobby also go into the top 10 as a unit, as they might have been the most fearsome forward line that we've ever trotted out down the past 130 odd years.

It's too difficult to give nuance to this, so inherent bias over when you were growing up/strongest memories come in to it. Like, I can't comment on anyone pre 95 really. Mine is based on how each of them made me feel; whether is was individual brilliance (favoured highly) or unerring consistency.

Suarez
Fowler
Torres
Salah
Mane
Bobby
Sturridge
Owen
Crouch

Crouchy is half a joke answer, but he gave me a great feeling good factor when he played and come good. Lot of time for.our crouchy

As I say, I'm too young to remember Barnes or rush prime (just remember older players who were fine), and wasn't born for others.

For me Suarez and Torres are the best. I think Owen is pretty close, but we never really saw his potential realised because of all the injuries.

I think someone like Fowler benefits from the lower standard we had in the league back then. I'm not sure you can ever really be truly considered world class when you barely make an impact at international level.

It's hard to judge impact at international level. Are you talking moments? Caps?

Fowler was "unlucky" as at the time England had several very good strikers, but his off field antics probably had his card marked early.

Well I just think it's a good rough guide cos it's a pretty constant standard.

I think it's clear he wasn't as big a talent as Owen and Rooney, say. Great player, obviously, but probably a level below Suarez, Torres, Salah, Owen et al.

I understand where Fowler is coming from, but I don't agree. It's definitely true that he got his first cap later than you'd expect but I remember watching England back then and I felt like Fowler never took his chance, the way Owen did. He then got injured and was never the same again.
His stats during his first 4 seasons for Liverpool were unbelievable, but the drop off was pretty remarkable too.

Controversial point. Love Fowler the player, don't like Fowler the man, based on limited evidence of seeing him interview people. open to changing view as I don't know the bloke clearly :).

If you were looking at out and out strikers it would be hard to look past Rushie, just on the sheer volume of goals scored but also his team play, the pressing from the front and so on. We shouldn't forget Roger Hunt who went from banging in the goals in Division Two to being a top striker in the top flight in a very short space of time. A real giant of that 60s team.
If you're looking at 'half and half' strikers, then don't look beyond Dalglish and Suarez. Two absolutely brilliant players but in very different ways. One person we shouldn't forget is Kevin Keegan, pound for pound our best ever signing and a player who absolutely electrified that early 70s side.

The King had the best combo of talent and longevity, IMO of course. Suarez though gets my vote alongside yours for the greatest sheer talent I've ever seen or expect to see in a Liverpool shirt.

Based on the same limited evidence I like him. I suspect he may have been a bit of a twat back in the day but he comes across quite well now and does acknowledge where we went wrong. Listen to him talk about Houllier, for example, who he must have hated at the time.

Fowler's book offered some distinctly unconvincing excuses for the way he'd conducted himself at times, and there were rumours that it was matters off the field rather than on it which accounted for his small number of England caps. If he's matured since, well done him.
