Is Charlie Adam better than Igor Biscan?

Ha ha ha

Unsurprising that Ryan simply can't allow that Adam played well.
So you don't think that it was a coincidence he played better in a midfield 3?

And where have you been every other week when he's been fucking rubbish?
Since you're beating Downing with this stick- we've had 8 PL games and Adam has 1 goal and 4 assists. His run created our goal on Sat and that doesn't count in those stats. He is a player who makes things happen. He *already* has more assists for our club than your darling Lucas.

As I say, you doggedly refuse to say he's a good player or even just say, 'the lad had a great game'. You've labelled him mediocre and will stick to it no matter what Adam does.

He's not been anywhere near as bad as some make out.

Created the freekick and generally played pretty well .

No doubt he's been good for us. He just goes missing as a game progresses. Utd was the first he hasn't

He provided a piece of magic to create the freekick by beating 2 players.

That alone is worthy of praise. He's been shockingly poor apart from that and the strike against the bar last week.

Shame as his crosses are superb. I wish Gerrard had let him have a crack with the free kick after the goal.
You defend him and then descend into the same level of hyperbole bollocks the rest are tarnishing Adam with, 'shockingly poor'? Really?

He won the freekick on Saturday. His set piece deliveries from corners have always looked dangerous, right across the mouth of the goal. He's scored. He's set up a few goals, he's generally not looked out of place bar the poor games against Stoke and Spurs and maybe one other appearance where he's fallen short. He's a new player, in a new team at a level he's not really played at before. Has he created goals? Yes. Has he scored yet? Yes. Has he helped us beat a 'top' side? Yes.

I swear people wanted him to come in and be Xabi Alonso. And I don't mean the Xabi Alonso who was up and down in his first few seasons, poor from setpieces and who didn't score that often either, but the one who'd had his game kicked into touch in his final season. Yeah, that's realistic and fair.

I wish people would quit contradicting themselves in different threads by applying differing logics regarding the quality and overall impact of different players. Adam comes in and does a steady job and creates and scores some goals - ergo he's not good enough. Lucas plays the usual standard, poor/average/unspectacular/occasionally good stuff that he gives us every season and we're all missing the point.

So what if he now looks better in a midfield three? Isn't that what he played in for Blackpool? Didn't Xabi Alonso look better when Gerrard played ahead of him?

Has he fuck you big drama queen.

Granted he was poor at Stoke and was sent off at Spurs but in the majority of games, he's played pretty well and made a positive impact.
Already has a few assists and goals to his name.
"shockingly poor" fucking hell.

I agree with this. He had a cracking game as well. Lucas was very poor and deservedly subbed at the weekend.

It is idiotic not to give Adam a bit of credit. Despite being 'fucking rubbish' for the beginning of his tenure, he is something like third in the assist stakes for the league. I like Lucas, but I think it is also fair to point out that despite playing 120 league games (not always in a withdrawn role) he has less assists than Adam has in 8. It indicates that we need to expect Adam to be expansive and sometimes appear wasteful, that he is attempting lower percentage plays that have a greater reward. Lucas can keep it tidy, but we also need players that make things happen. Adam has already shown that he can do that.

Perhaps he *is* more comfortable in a midfield 3. though I'd say that is true of 90% of midfielders. Xabi certainly preferred being part of a 3. My problem with you is that instead of giving the player any credit, you have to find some excuse for a player you have labelled 'mediocre' to have had a great game.

Or some flaw in the reasoning behind him having a good game. He played well in a three. So what? You could argue Gerrard has played better since he was put infront of a midfield three.

Alonso wasn't that good when not in a midfield 3

As others have already said

In a 4-2-3-1 would the three central players still be classed a midfield three?
i'd say so. You've got someone doing the main bulk of the attacking ahead of you, and lucas/a.n.other doing a lot of the defending

You're obviously referring to us under Rafa when Mascherano and Alonso were the midfield two and Gerrard was ahead of them?

I'd say yes, as Gerrard is basically a centre midfielder just playing further forward.

He still had the tackling capabilities etc required to help out Mascherano and Alonso.

Fucking hell what a trio they were. :(

Even the song had Momo in it. I mean fuck's sake.

Here is what i think on this subject..

Charlie Adam is clearly not useless. He is a bit like Danny Murphy. The price we paid was, for once, right.

On the otherhand, on many occassions i have wondered if Lucas was useless.
