Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

I took it as 12 April that pubs can open outside areas only but 17 May they can open indoors as well (but with rule of 6 or whatever).

21 June pretty much anyone can do anything.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A new study based on a year of research by a German physicist has concluded that the Wuhan coronavirus started with an accident at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).

Dr. Roland Wiesendanger, who specializes in nanoscience at the University of Hamburg, on Feb. 18 published a 105-page report on ReasearchGate titled "Study on the Origin of the Coronavirus Pandemic." The study was carried out from January to December 2020 based on scientific literature, print articles, online media, and correspondence with international researchers.

In his report, Wiesendanger listed six "significant indications" that the coronavirus pandemic started with a leak from the WIV.

No natural host found

Wiesendanger points out that unlike SARS and MERS, no intermediate host between bats and humans has been found more than a year since the start of the pandemic. Thus far, there is no evidence for the zoonotic theory to explain the outbreak.

Indeed, during the joint China-WHO report issued on Feb. 9, Liang Wannian, head of the Chinese National Health Commission's Expert Panel of COVID-19 Response, stated that 50,000 samples of wild animals from 300 different species (including bats) as well as 11,000 farm animals in 31 Chinese provinces — taken between November 2019 and March 2020 — had all tested negative for SARS-CoV-2, the virus which causes COVID-19.

Well-suited for hACE2 receptors

The researcher claimed that the SARS-CoV-2 virus is "astonishingly effective" at binding to human receptor cells (hACE2). He said this is due to its special hACE2 binding domains paired with the furin cleavage sites of the virus' telltale spike protein.

He stated that this is the first time a coronavirus has exhibited both characteristics and that it points to a "non-natural origin." Within the betacoronaviruses of sarbecovirus lineage B, the polybasic furin cleavage site is unique to SARS-CoV-2, according to News Medical Life Sciences.

Wrong bats in Wuhan

Wiesendanger noted that there were no bats sold at the infamous Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, where the first known superspreader event began. Liang has stated that no animals or "animal products" had tested positive for the virus there and that individuals who contracted COVID early on had not visited the market.

The types of bats endemic to Wuhan do not carry the kinds of coronaviruses associated with SARS and COVID-19. Those coronaviruses are only found in horseshoe bats nearly 2,000 kilometers away in the caves of Yunnan Province.

What Wuhan does have, however, is the WIV, which holds "one of the largest collections of bat pathogens in the world," observed Wiesendanger. He asserted that it is "extremely unlikely" bats made the 2,000-km journey to Wuhan and started an outbreak that just happened to be near the WIV and at least two other labs researching bat viruses in the city.

History of making chimeras

The scientist then mentioned that a research group, which is headed by Shi Zhengli (石正麗), also known as "Bat Woman," has since 2007 been researching how spike proteins in natural and chimeric SARS-like coronaviruses bind to the ACE2 receptors in the cells of humans, bats, and other animals. Wiesendanger alleged that the goal of this research is to make these viruses "more infectious, more dangerous, and more fatal."

Lax safety measures

Wiesendanger wrote that the safety measures had been "documented as being insufficient" before the start of the coronavirus epidemic. In early March of last year, photos taken in 2018 from within the lab surfaced showing a warped seal on the door to a freezer holding pathogens.

In 2017, Chinese state-run TV released a video showing WIV scientists talking about being bitten by bats. Other footage from the program shows scientists collecting potentially infectious bat feces while wearing short sleeves and shorts and with no noticeable personal protective equipment other than porous nitrile gloves.

Direct indications of lab leak

Wiesendanger then cites several incidents that are indicative of a lab accident, such as reports that a young researcher in the lab, identified as Huang Yanling, was allegedly "patient zero" and had disappeared after contracting the disease. The WIV and Chinese government have vehemently denied she was infected, but over a year later, her whereabouts are still unknown, and all information about her has been scrubbed from the WIV website.

He also touched on analysis by American intelligence agencies of a private report purporting to have found evidence of a "shutdown" and "hazardous event" allegedly taking place at the WIV in October 2019. More recently, on Jan. 15, the U.S. State Department released a report stating that several scientists inside the lab had become ill with "symptoms consistent with both COVID-19 and common seasonal illnesses" in the fall of 2019.

In an interview with the German newspaper ZDF, the scientist claimed he is "99.9 percent sure" that the coronavirus emerged from the laboratory. He did, however, concede that the current body of evidence pointing to a lab leak, although extensive, is currently "circumstantial."

During an interview on "Face the Nation" on Sunday (Feb. 21), former Deputy National Security Advisor (DNSA) Mathew Pottinger said that the "Chinese military was doing secret classified animal experiments in that same laboratory" as early as 2017. He added that there is "good reason to believe" an outbreak of a "flu-like illness" had occurred among the scientists at the WIV in the fall of 2019, just before the first cases of a new type of pneumonia were being reported in Wuhan.

If that is true, I can just see all the nutters who said "it's just a cold" start to come out with "it's all their fault that this deadly pandemic was unleashed upon the world".

But but but.. the WHO said it wasn't started in a lab.

But but but.. the WHO said it wasn't started in a lab.

Of course they did. They also said there was no evidence of human transmission when there was.

Believing this novel virus didn't originate in the big laboratory that was set up to specifically study and tinker with the coronavirus is a bit like trying to blame an oil spill on the ocean on anything other than the big oil tanker right next to the spill.

Dantes would have a crack if you scrawled Trump in the side of the oil tanker.

I don't know..

Pandemics are not unusual.. Historically we usually have them once every 50 - 100 years.. whilst some might suggest fowl play with Corona.. really you only have to look at history to see Pandemics are part of nature doing its thing..

You could argue, the biggest crime's globally is countries putting more money in to defense, developments of nuclear weapons, etc etc than to aid a pandemic response .. When a Pandemic is arguably a bigger threat to a global economy than most wars...

However it is only going to get worse with Global warming.. The more the glaciers and ice melts the more undiscovered virus will be released into the Earths atmosphere..

Also a recent study suggests Global warming could make viruses even harder to kill..

'Waterborne viruses which have adapted to warmer environments remain infectious for longer and are more resistant to disinfectants such as chlorine, a study by Swiss scientists suggests.

'This implies that microbial water quality may be worse in warm regions, and the health risks posed by viruses will be greater,” Tamar Kohn, associate professor of environmental chemistry at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, told The Independent.

Sunlight, high temperatures and other microbes can all deactivate viruses found in surface water, reducing their ability to spread disease. However, scientists expect the way viruses react to their environment will evolve in response to climate change'.

I think I heard someone discuss pandemics on a podcast recently and more or less said that periods of empire building always lead to a pandemic.

I watched an interesting video about the combination of Europeans and diseases and why it helped them take over the show, especially in the Americas. Basically the combination of Europeans living in densely populated towns, alongside animals led to us being walking germ factories. I went looking for it there but I can't find it.

There's also the very good book Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond which is an interesting read.

Rent free. Trump would be dead had he not been given a dose of the experimental regeneron drug. Had there been no election fraud, the vaccination programme would be nearing completion by now, and he'd be funding tremendous research on artificial antibodies to solve the problem of this and future pathogens.

Instead what you have now is a dithering old man, who will have the world in and out of lockdowns for years, constantly trying to figure out the impossible on the same level as quantum mechanics impossible task of how to get an injection into an arm, a real fucking head scratcher, need a thousand geniuses to even begin to tackle that problem. Meanwhile the updated vaccines for each mutation will eventually push their luck too far, and the final unlucky mutation will kill us all.

Yeah, I'm really no expert in it all, but it's just impossible to dismiss that a highly contagious virus got out a lab studying it and tinkering with it. A worker at the lab could have visited the wet markets once infected and boom.

China has had months to get their shit in order before the inspectors got in.

Seriously though. The modern day precautions taken by these labs (of which there are many around the world) would put the likelihood of that happening at 0.0001% or whatever.
So whatever is the most obvious reason for the crossover from animal to human is almost certainly what happened. As has now been proven the virus was present around the world in a form that had not yet mutated to become viable to human transmission .. and then it did (as with all viruses down the ages, as in before labs were even a thing).

  • Amid questions about the origin of the novel coronavirus outbreak, diplomatic cables obtained by The Washington Post showed that US officials had sounded the alarm about possible safety breaches at a lab in Wuhan, China.
  • The diplomats and scientists were worried about the safety of the lab's research on coronaviruses in animals like bats as early as January 2018.
  • The Post said they warned that sloppy safety protocols for handling contagious viruses in the lab "represented a risk of a new SARS-like pandemic."
  • While there is no evidence to suggest that the virus was created in a lab as a bioweapon, the diplomatic cables shine more light on a theory that the virus leaked out of the lab by accident.

Amid questions about the origin of the novel coronavirus outbreak, newly reported diplomatic cables showed that US officials had sounded the alarm about possible safety breaches at a lab studying coronaviruses in animals in Wuhan, China.

In the cables, obtained by the Washington Post national-security columnist Josh Rogin, US officials raised concerns about safety at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in 2018, two years before the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The lab, which holds a level-four biosafety research certification, the highest possible rating, was conducting research on coronaviruses in bats.

After multiple visits to the lab from a US diplomat in Wuhan and a science diplomat at the US Embassy in Beijing in early 2018, the officials became concerned about the safety of the research and sent two "sensitive but unclassified" cables back to Washington, DC, asking for assistance to help the lab tighten its safety protocols

That's assuming they keep the labs well maintained...
He can't say anything else.. his social credits are low.

China has world class safety standards, and the refusal to allow independent investigators to Wuhan for a year is coincidental. Obviously.

I heard someone saying that it couldn't be man made because of the lipid casing and no-one has ever made one of them, but couldn't it just be the case that they were fucking about with existing viruses and it made the species jump in the lab?

If memory serves, a doctor died of the same thing in the US after his vaccination. Can't be helped when you are forced to roll out a vaccine before doing the usual amount of research.

Sigh. If you know anything about thrombosis it's that it's far more common than realised, in many forms.

Quote from the CDC :
The precise number of people affected by DVT/PE is unknown, although as many as 900,000 people could be affected (1 to 2 per 1,000) each year in the United States. Estimates suggest that 60,000-100,000 Americans die of DVT/PE per annum.

So it's very likely it's coincidental. Though there is still the very low possibility that it was caused by the vaccine as all of them cause a slight increase in blood viscosity.

This is the same reason that some labs in Europe (for clarification without any proof of actual causality, as they have admitted - they say they are erring on the side of caution (even though the actual EMA have disregarded the deaths as statistically irrelevant), this whilst the death rate if you actually contract Covid being much higher) are unsure that recent thrombosis deaths are caused by increased viscosity from taking the vaccine or by natural incidence.

You're perfectly free to believe in coincidences, mathematics is also perfectly free to laugh at your attempt to conclude anything about the statistical significance or frequency of an outlier event based on a bell curve. Only really bad investors and clueless clinical researchers think otherwise. If you happen to know any top top investors they'll set you straight.

It’s highly unlikely that the man pushing for disinfectant to be sprayed into the lungs with sunlight will ever have the intelligence to push for research into artificial antibodies.

Especially since he believes covid is just the flu.
