Covid-19 & Football

I've seen some reports saying that within two months some 70-80% of teams from league one down will be out of business, or effectively so by releasing all staff & 'mothballing'.

The PL has to push money back down, the football league in this country has more teams than any other country & is something to be proud of & protected. It does have an impact on the highest levels of the game, albeit over a bigger picture view & over a long period of time.

I can’t say I’m surprised. Football clubs play a dangerous game with finances. Effectively hand to mouth. The post Covid world needs a complete rethink of how we use our finances.

Absolutely. One reason why I don't ever want to see a European superleague is that it would destroy any chance of such things happening. The big would get bigger and large swathes of the rest would simply disappear.
I have some (slim admittedly) hopes that this may lead to a fairer permanent trickle down of tv cash in the longer term.

The fact that Parry is one of those pushing for this is ironic in the extreme, but then I suppose he could argue (less than convincingly imo) that they couldn't have foreseen the longer term impact of the mechanics of parachute payments & the relatively low amounts that flow back down the 'pyramid' (which isn't really a pyramid, as using the term parachute payments betrays).

I've mentioned many times the fact that the PL mimicked the NFL setup, but chose to leave relegation & promotion in (the right decision), yet not use their system of allowing money to flow back down like they do in the US.

It's ludicrous, because the relegation & promotion ensures you want, even need, those teams lower to do well, yet you cut them off at the knees.

The most valuable game in the world is between two teams who finished lower than 22nd in the English league. No one ever talks about it that way.

It's fucking insanity.

For me feds was always a bit more matrix police with their kevlars and black outfits but coppers is your standard Bobby

Bruce pushing for a 26th June restart at the earliest. Says majority of clubs also feel the same.
Bruce can get to fuck. It's starting on the 12th June unless the Bundesliga gets a shitload of positive tests in the meantime.

Our first match will be the derby on 14th June.

I've read quite a few articles it will be 19th at the earliest. The 12th has been and gone as it wasn't voted through last week.

If they don't vote it through tomorrow it will then push back each day it rumbles on..

So Tuesday will become the 20th June etc etc.

Theoretically, I wonder at what point they start allowing the fans back in, and to what extent. Say for example the bumdersliga or our league, say germany or us have zero deaths or zero new cases for a couple of weeks or a month, do they allow the stadiums to be filled up again? I wonder what the crossover point will be where they can be allowed back in again.

If any Tory cabinet member or Tory donor had investments in the PL it would be starting this weekend.

I'm surprised West Ham haven't considered this:

South Korean football club apologizes for filling stands with 'sex dolls'

South Korean football team FC Seoul has apologized after fans accused the club of using sex dolls to fill empty stands at its second game of the K League season.

On Sunday, the club played at home against Gwangju in South Korea's top football championship, which was due to start on February 29 but was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Fans were barred from the ground as part of measures to prevent the spread of infection, but those watching online noticed something off-color about the mannequins drafted in to fill the stands.

Some of the figures were holding signs for a company that makes sex dolls, and fans pointed out that they looked like adult dolls rather than mannequins.

"Honestly, if you saw the mannequins you should have thought they were strange," wrote one fan on Instagram.
Others were incredulous that no one at the club had noticed the issue.

"The female mannequin dressed in a white short sleeve t-shirt, the breast excessively stood out, and the nipples were protruding, but you didn't know they were an adult product?" wrote another fan on Instagram. "You are kidding me."

In response, the club issued an apology on Instagram and Facebook.

"Regarding the cheer mannequins that were installed during the game on the 17th, we sincerely apologize for causing deep concern to the fans," the statement said.

FC Seoul explained that although the dolls were made to look like real people, rather than conventional mannequins, it had checked they were "not at all related to adult products" before agreeing to install them, and had been told they would be mannequins of the kind commonly used to model clothes.

Staff "went through the confirmation process that they were not adult products several times," said the statement, and didn't notice that an ad for adult products was visible on the day of the game.

"This is our fault without excuse," said the club. "Regardless of the reason, we apologize again for causing great concern to the fans who love and cheer for FC Seoul."
