Henderson 2.0

Don't see it happening. Keita is going to be given more time. We already have Wijnaldum and Henderson. Grujic is coming back from loan. We might lose Milner to Leeds in the summer but I think our priorities are left back, winger and striker/forward.

Plus we've got Shaqiri & AOC to add to the mix. If it's going to get culled in the Summer, I guess Lallana might go (there was interest in him in January), Grujic will go and Milner might get his retirement move.

I can still, for some reason, see Klopp going all out for a top playmaker, because for all of the other 6-8 players attributes, I don't think any of them fit the top class playmaker bracket, as good as many of them are.

I think longterm, Klopp's idea has to have been for Keita and Fabinho to occupy central midfield, and for AOC and Shaqiri to then battle it out for spearheading the three, but I think in the longer term, he might invest (big) again.

If we lose Milner, Lallana we will need someone who can play in that DM pivot. I love Gini there, but if we are looking to continually upgrade the squad I see this being a place we do so (aside from a reliable wide forward to have the 3 spots rotated between 4 players, and not a same set 3 with no one else we trust to come in). Beats me who it is.

Do we need to buy for the DM position? The way I see it is we've got Fabinho, an out and out DM isn't needed for every game, so you've then got adequate replacements in Gini and Henderson who can play there and still keep us relatively solid. Like I said earlier in the thread, Henderson AND Fabinho played against Palace and we let in three, despite them both performing well. So I don't think it's too bad having one specialist DM, particularly for the big games and then alternative ways of playing for other games. Generally we've been solid throughout the season, whoever has played. So it's sort of ironic that with our most solid pairing (on paper) we let in the most amount of goals in a game. It's probably just an anomaly because of our defensive injuries, but anyway.

Maybe you're right but we haven't won anything in a long time. I think at some point we will sign an Alisson/Van Dijk type of behemoth for the midfield - just fork out loads for an absolutely 9/10 week in week out midfielder. And that will be to replace Henderson.

But what type of CM "behemoth"?

He's spunked £40m on the holding player Fabinho, and £50m on whatever the fuck Keita is supposed to be. And then there's his favourites, Henderson and Wijnaldum, plus The Ox and Shaqiri.

I think the pursuit of Fekir suggests he wants (or wanted) even more Attacking Midfield options at "Number 10", but it would seem he has plenty of his versatile, water-carriers who can play 6 (DM) and 8 (CM).

I think aside from the obvious defensive reinforcements needed, we obviously need a replacement/alternative to Firmino. Someone who can get goals and provide something different to the rest in attack. Or just a more natural goal getter. Not that we're exactly shabby in that department, but being even more ruthless is never a bad thing.

Yeah agree with this. TAA may move into CM at some time and we've got Ox coming back plus the U23 lads. Milner will get a one year extension - he's been ace this year so why would we let him go ? Don't see it. And agree with the priorities too.

If Barca really are looking to replace their CF in the summer, I’d really really be up for bringing Suarez in. Could alternate with Firmino easily, Firmino could even play the attacking midfield role ahead of a couple of midfielders, behind Suarez.
Probably would never happen but just imagine how crazy our attack would be.

It'd be amazing, as great as Bobby is, he's like Suarez-lite. Suarez has everything to play in this system.

He did. At this age I dunno

If he accepted that he'd sometimes start on the bench, we'd finally have a world class attacking option t bring on and, like Shankly said of Keegan, 'go out and throw a few hand grenades'. The lesson we still haven't learned from the CL final was that there's a massive drop in attacking threat if Salah goes off. People always question whether a genuinely top player will accept sometimes being on the bench, but if you look at the top teams that win stuff, they DO have that kind of player. And Suarez, at 32, wouldn't represent a block to Brewster's development - on the contrary, imagine what he could learn from working with Suarez for a year or two.

He would actually get a helluva lot of games next season, cos Mane & Salah will have played the African Cup this summer, so they will have played two full years of football with no real break.

I think it's fair to say that they will get a long rest at the start of the season, so we could be looking at a month or two without them, & that's without any potential injury, which is of course a massive risk after that much football & on international duty.

I really really wanted to see Torres and Suarez together.

Nah. 11 days now and another 10 in Feb. plus a couple of weeks in the Summer. Sorted. Don't want them getting lazy or being tapped up whilst on a beach somewhere. Not sure if they are into that .. maybe on the Haj then, easy to sneak agents into a million plus.

Hello, is that Brendan. I think what @gene hughes is saying is that at some point to win the medal around my neck consistently, Klopp might want somebody at my level, mate.
