Joey Barton believed to have been injured outside nightclub

Last updated Mon 4 Jun 2012
It is thought that Queens Park Rangers captain Joey Barton has been injured during an incident in Liverpool City Centre early this morning.
Merseyside Police confirmed officers were called to Eberle Street at 5.30am following reports of an altercation outside a nightclub. A 29 year old man, believed to be Joey Barton, had suffered some injuries to his his face and left the scene voluntarily.
Two 21 year old men were later arrested for a public order offence. They are currently in police custody.
Police would not confirm that the injured 29 year old was Barton.

Although Premier League footballers could afford to fly to Monte Carlo for a night out, they are irresistably drawn to humbler places where they are liable to get involved in incidents. I'm sure some of us remember the "Coconut Grove" incident when a number of Liverpool first-team players got themselves arrested. I can't remember all of them but Sammy Lee and Paul Walsh were among them.

Didn't a few of them have a stake in that place? Why you'd want to own a nightclub in Tuebrook when you were playing for LFC is beyond me, but then there are plenty of Liverpool players and managers links to the local organised crime families.

As for Barton, those who live by the punch in the face, get punched by the punch in the face. Or something.

Surely if it was Garlands he would have been slapped rather than punched.
I would not have thought Garlands would have been our Joey's scene at all.

regards

I think some of the players did have a stake in the Coconut Grove. Maybe the easy availability of armies of lusting totties had something to do with it. Like most dodgy night clubs they were constantly in trouble with the police and later changed their name to the "Venue." It has stood as an empty and derelict eyesore for years.

I think it's a product of how most wealth is earned round here. Your first exposure to anyone as an LFC player is either renting or buying a house, and if it's the kind of thing with a gym and swimming pool in it, you're probably talking to a football player on his way out or someone who sells a lot of heroin. They tend to also have nightclubs for sale.

Shame, yet another old cinema building in Liverpool ruined.

I had some great memories of the cokey & the venue.

I can't find it in me to dislike Joey Barton. To me he's an old-fashioned rough-and-ready footballer and he has the problem of a short fuse which I'm sure others take advantage of. A couple of seasons ago when he was playing for Newcastle away to Wolves, it was obvious that Mick McCarthy had told his players to make Barton lose his temper, because they kept running up to him and kicking him for no obvious reason. The referee seemed oblivious to this, but Barton found it quite amusing and joked with the Wolves players when they were leaving the pitch.

if barton played 30 years ago he would have talked up like ron **chopper** harris

Re this story it easy for joe public to make a easy name for themselves by this sort of thing

The problem with Barton is that he thinks of himself as a hardman, but he is not all that hard, is he? I reckon most prem players would take him on....but they wouldn't, whilst Barton would be all too ready to throw a punch if the opportunity presents.

That's a load of bollocks.
He's a conniving little arsehole who goes down like a led balloon when someone touches him (how often would Souness or Tomy do that?), and seriously punches like a little girl, as proven by the CCTV footage of him punching an innocent young man in the streets a few years ago.
The hard Liverpudlians I've known through the years are nothing like him. He's much more like the stupid little skin heads that walk around town at midnight with their trackies, looking to cause trouble, always making sure it's at least a 1 on 8 situation should any fight ensue.
He's a prick. I hate him.

IT'S OK EVERYONE !

Yeah he's just an 'Old fashioned rough and ready footballer' with this on his CV:

2004:
February - Barton red-carded for the first time in Manchester City's FA Cup fourth-round tie at Tottenham, for two bookable offences.
April - Barton storms out of Eastlands before kick-off after being axed from team to face Southampton.
July - Criticised by City manager Kevin Keegan for causing mass brawl in a pre-season friendly at Doncaster.
December - Stubs lit cigar in the eye of young team-mate Jamie Tandy during City's Christmas party. Fined six weeks' wages by the club. Forced to pay four weeks' salary - approximately £60,000 - immediately, with a further two weeks suspended for a year. Tandy later sued Barton, winning £65,000 in damages.
2005:
July - Involved in altercation with a 15-year-old Everton fan at City's team hotel in Bangkok during a pre-season tour. Fined eight weeks' wages by City after being found guilty of gross misconduct.
2006:
September - Drops his shorts in the direction of Everton fans following City's 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.
December - Shown the second red card of his career - this time a straight red - for a two-footed lunge on Abdoulaye Faye in City's 2-0 home defeat to Bolton.
2007:
May - Suspended by City after training-ground altercation with Ousmane Dabo, which leaves his team-mate needing hospital treatment. Charged with assault, and on July 1 2008 receives a four-month suspended jail sentence. Also punished by FA with a 12-match ban - six matches of which are suspended and a £25,000 fine.
December 27 - Arrested in Liverpool city centre after a late-night incident and later charged with common assault and affray. Remanded in custody and misses Newcastle's New Year fixtures, being released on January 3.
2008:
May 20 - Jailed for six months after admitting common assault and affray in relation to the 27 December incident.
2009:
May 3 - Sent off against Liverpool for late challenge on Xabi Alonso. After a reported dressing-room bust-up with manager Alan Shearer following the game, Barton was suspended from the club for the rest of the season.
2010:
November 10 - Punches Blackburn winger Morten Gamst Pedersen during a 2-1 defeat for Newcastle at St James' Park. Accepts an FA charge and is banned for three games.
2011:
August 1 - Newcastle transfer-list Barton after a series of Twitter comments criticising the club, making him available on a free transfer. He joins QPR on August 26.
2012:
January 2 - Scores but is then sent off as QPR lose 2-1 at home to Norwich in the Premier League.
January 26 - Unleashes an online tirade against the Football Association, labelling them an "Orwellian organisation" in need of a "drastic shake-up".
May 13 - Sent off for elbowing Carlos Tevez on the final day of the season at Manchester City. Knees Sergio Aguero, sending the striker to the ground, and attempts to headbutt Vincent Kompany before being ushered off the field.
May 14 - In the wake of his final day red card, launches an expletive-laden Twitter attack on Shearer, his former manager at Newcastle and current Match of the Day pundit, before turning on the programme's presenter, Gary Lineker, saying: "back under your stone you odious little toad..."
May 23 - Banned for 12 matches and fined £75,000 after being charged with two acts of violent conduct against Aguero and Kompany. He accepted the former, but denied the later and requested a personal hearing, where the verdict went against him.

He's scum of the earth.
