I know. I just don't rate Lucas, Poulsen or Spearing as good dms. I like the possesion idea and perhaps my thoughts were stuck in the Houllier/Benitez era regarding dms. But I'd still want us to at least have one who could do a proper job. In some games we can't just go gung-ho, to keep possession we need to get the ball.

Not sure that the phrase defensive midfielder is in KK's vocabulary at the moment. I think he sees a midfielder as just that,, able to get up and down the pitch and mix and match

Pretty much what I said the other day Vlad. Lucas will be the token DM when we play one of the 'big boys' otherwise I doubt we'll see an out and out DM this season ... and we don't need to either, especially away against teams outside the Top 10 and at home against anyone except maybe the Top 4.

Lucas has done that job superbly against the top 4 sides ... it's rather unfair not to take that into consideration and to think we should be splashing out for a DM to play a dozen games a season when we might need him (Spearing isn't a DM - ever).

There are just far too many people who disagree with you for you to be even close to right. Even on 6CM he was voted amongst our best players of last season, go and check the MoM voting - especially for those top matches ... and maybe have a quiet word with Kenny, Carra & Stevie too, they'll probably laugh at your opinion but hey .... you're entitled to it no matter how wrong it is. And the final nail in this coffin is that Glock agrees with you !

I don't have to, I've seen Lucas stink-up the Brazil midfield this summer like he stinks-up our midfield most weekends - if others can't see it I can't be bothered explaining to them how to evaluate footballers because it would be akin to explaining to an 11 year old girl why McFly are rubbish.

This season will be the season that these Lucas-apologists finally see how limited he is; 2 predictions for you, he'll be dropped from the next Brazil squad (permanently) and he'll end the season as a peripheral squad player at LFC (if not we'll finish outside the top 4 again).
 
Yeah but saying he's had about two good games in his career is bollocks, he's played well in alot of big games, as people have been saying. He's played well against Arsenal, Chelsea and United in at least two games against each from my memory. He might have his limitations but saying he's useless and making bold predicitons will probably come back to bite you (and a few others) on the arse, and personally I'm not that arsed either way, I just hate to see people exagerate guff because they're not fans of a player.

We hear the same sort of shite about Dirk Kuyt EVERY summer and the same posters never learn.

People forget Lucas is still young and wont hit his prime til he's 27 or 28. He has shown us enough in the improvement terms over the past 2 years to merit not being called everything that he has been over the last pages of this thread.......but then again Mark is right and we do hear similar things about deadly dirk....sometimes I think people just take up an issue with a player from an early age at the club and then just cant get past it!

I reckon he'll keep improving mate.....maybe not a world beater but he can certainly keep doing a job for us. I just think people dont give him much of a chance of making it here when he already has played over 100 games for us at 24!
 
And it's worth noting that we've been constantly improving and progressing as a side during those 100 games.

He'll keep getting more you know.. You know. Thingy. His technique and stuff. You know that unquantifiable Lucasness, that's bound to get, you know, er, there'll be more of it. Better.

I just reckon he'll get better, i cant tell at what! I just like his attitude of letting his playing do the talking! And he does seem to have that never say die drive.......something this club is well known for!
 
He'll keep improving. His interceptions, his passing, his shooting. Everything

Pesam is largely right and on this occasion so is Glock.
I will say it again as it stands saying, even in a vain attempt to prevent some people getting further dragged helplessly into The Lucas Our Saviour cult, and trying manfully to evangelise us heretics that dare to think otherwise.
Look it's very simple. He was very shit but got games as there really was no alternative and he got a load of shit, that was wrong, but the fact is he was bloody awful.
To the lads credit he has put the vitriol behind him and worked hard, to such an extent he has progressed into an average to occasionally above average player - no more than that.
Because they felt sorry for him, admired his tenacity against the critics, and has progressed markedly to this average\occasional above average player, some people are kidding themselves and whipped up this mass Lucas hysteria. I think it is quite well intentioned but wrong
Get used to this idea. While Dirk and Lucas are first choice picks we will not progress.
Fortunately I can see those days ending.

Little bit harsh, but yeah.... a few more above average games than people give him credit for mind.
