Maybe they wont fall apart then. To batter Stoke at theirs is an amazing result. They have really good players in Taylor, Taylor, Collocini, Simpson, Cabaye, Ba, Gutierez etc but their squad is small so youd have to think an injury or two and they would struggle.
Fair play though they look a decent team.
With the obvious exception of Citeh there really isnt all that much between United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Us, Spurs and Newcastle at the minute.

They are playing well, have made some good signing too but the fixture list has been kind to them. They have a tough run of games coming up that should give us a better idea about their true quality. Fair play though they have gotten off to a hell off a start

THEY have a tough fixture list coming up?

Our next 3 league games are Swansea (h) Chelsea (a) Man City (h)

We could collect a grand total of 3 points in fucking November!

Well technically we could collect 0, or 9.

That can't be right.

Sorry.

I was working on the basis that we'd absolutely rape City but lose to Swansea and Chelsea

I'm going to predict a 9 point haul from those games as we haul ourselves onto the coat tails of the title race.

And I'll have one of those barkeep.

I'm happy for Newcastle. It's good to see a wildcard among the millionaires. Not sure if it's quite moneyball, but it really is good for the game. Restores some romance for a short spell.

They are a one team town, with 100% support from the locals, they have a superb stadium, and its only bad ownership/management thats fucked them up for years....

Pardew is practically masterminding his own downfall.
They will fall away after xmas and the deluded geordies will be calling for his head no doubt.

Hilarious. Mickey Owen is rumored to be heading back to help them go places..

i wasn't following liverpool in the owen years or when he left but i fucking despise him. one of the most boring and twattish people on the planet.

I doubt they can keep up the frenezy over a whole season. Ba is a goalmachine though...I´m certain Binny has the stats for his last two/three seasons.

I doubt it. The Geordies hate him more than we do.

09/10 - Hoffenheim
12(5) apps, 5 goals, 242 mins per goal

10/11 - combination of stats for West Ham and Hoffenheim
28(5) apps, 16 goals, 4 assists, 154 min per goal

11/12 - Newcastle
9(2) apps, 8 goals, 1 assist, 88 min per goal

On a sidenote, they're certainly handling him with care. The Stoke City match was only the 2nd time in 11 appearances where he played the full match.

Not sureif I can agree to that Simpson and Taylor are good players tbh. But Pardew has done a good job thats for sure. Well balanced team and play some good football. The result on monday aside, they've only played Arsenal and Spurs from the top teams and have had a pretty "easy" fixture list so far. In some games they've been extremely lucky to get anything, like QPR away.

That said, great start and even if they start to crumble a bit, a top 8 finish is on the cards and thats a great achivement.

*nods sagely*

I had a three year long hiatus for drugs/drinks/girls from about 1998 until the start of 2001 season.

I missed very little it seems.

During 2001 I discovered the art of following footy only in pubs & going out afterwards, then when settled down with a girl & recommenced attending matches, then usually came home two days later.

Extra time can be a bugger can't it ?

Dixon:

So far, it's the usual suspects – and Tottenham and Liverpool will be there in the Champions League race as well – but the biggest surprise has been Alan Pardew and Newcastle. After Everton at home today they face successive trips to City and United and then host Chelsea. These games will severely test exactly how good they are and if they can take points from them then they can justifiably look to claim a European place come the end of the season.

There has been a suggestion they are in a false position because of the opposition they have faced but I don't agree. Ten games unbeaten can't be knocked and their result at Stoke on Monday was fantastic. Pardew deserves enormous credit for what he has achieved in what is a tough place to manage. He has built a solid side, they are tight at the back, have Cheick Tioté and Yohan Cabaye excelling in the centre of midfield and have a striker in form in Demba Ba. But it is what has happened at the back that is the key – Newcastle have conceded seven goals in their 10 games, one fewer than City and half as many as Tottenham. A large part of the reason for that solidity is consistency of selection.

Pardew has settled on a regular back four in front of a sound keeper in Tim Krul. You can get away with things if you aren't chopping and changing. The back four I was part of at Arsenal may not have been the four best individual players. There were more dynamic left-backs than Nigel Winterburn and more flamboyant right-backs than myself but when you play together week after week in matches and on the training ground you develop a complete understanding. It can actually reduce the amount of running you have to do on the pitch by a third because you know exactly where your team-mates will be and where you need to be.

Every year there is one of these teams that spring a surprise on the league and stays up in the top 4 or 5 through Xmas before eventually falling down a few rungs. Newcastle are that team this year. Class and strength in depth will eventually overcome confidence and enthusiasm brought about from a good start. Pardew has done very well though with limited resources.

Back to Newcastle. I'm happy for Ryan Taylor. He's finally getting an extended run in a team. He did okay for Wigan and takes a mean free kick. Scouser too.

They will go 2nd.. if they win the lunch time kick off..

Albeit temporarily till Bruce bends over for Slur Alex later on this afternoon..

They'll miss Demba Ba and Tiote for the African Nations Cup in January
