Reina readying exit: "It's not about being patient"
Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina has voiced his concern at the lack of competitiveness shown by Liverpool as speculation again rises that the Anfield number one could quit the club in the summer.
It is widely recognised that the shot stopper is frustrated at the way Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano have been allowed to leave Merseyside over the last two years and is weighing up the possibility of pushing for a transfer himself.
Last summer Arsenal approached the Reds with a bid thought to be in excess of £20 million only to have the offer rejected out of hand. It remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger returns to negotiations at the end of the season although with Reina admired across Europe it appears the keeper will not be short of suitors.
Speaking at the weekend about Liverpool’s need to show ambition, Reina told the Daily Star:
"We have to strengthen. If we want to improve then we have to do that.
"It is our duty to be strong, to get better. The only thing I can do is train and do my best. Who knows if I have got years left?
"It's not about being patient. It's about the club winning and I want to be competitive. We used to fight to be among the top team and be in the Champions League.
"Sadly that's not the case now. I want to win titles."
