Sack Race 22/23

Deserve to go down if they do. First, they sacked their manager who led them to the League One title the previous season in his first full season in charge (ok, he did lose 6 out of his last 7 matches but it wasn't an easy job in the first place). Then, they chose to give a managerial rookie the tough job of battling relegation - on a 3.5 yr deal too.

BBC gossip suggesting Maureen may return to Chelsea... now that is something I would love to see

AC Milan, Napoli, Valencia amongst the clubs he had managed. o_O

[article]Gennaro Gattuso is no longer the Valencia coach as the ex-Italy midfielder and the Spanish club have parted ways by mutual agreement.

Gattuso was appointed last summer but only collected 20 points in the opening 18 matches, losing three of the last four league games.

“Valencia CF announce that this Monday, January 30th, the club and the first team coach, Gennaro Gattuso, have decided by mutual agreement to end the contractual relationship between the two parties,” the La Liga side said in a statement.

“The club wish to thank Gattuso for his commitment and work during his time in charge and wish him the best of luck for the future.

“The team will return to training this Tuesday, January 31st, under ‘Voro’ González.”[/article]

Had a look and wow, Valencia have had twelve different managers since Klopp took charge of Liverpool.

Gattuso gets a manager job mainly because of his name and stature as a former footballer. As a manager he's just awful.

Next Premier League manager to leave (via Sky Bet)
Jesse March - 11/4
Nathan Jones - 3/1
Gary O'Neil - 7/2
David Moyes - 11/2
Graham Potter - 9/1
Jurgen Klopp - 10/1
Antonio Conte - 12/1
Odds correct at 1715 GMT (05/02/23)

Didn't succeed at RB Leipzig, not looking good at Leeds. Still young though but reputation might have suffered after these spells.

They bought 4-5 players who are either Americans or from Salzburg and Leipzig partly cos of him but now he's gone

They've bought well and played well up to the last few games. Really high xG for a team that's full of new signings.

I'm quite surprised by this.

Their whole strategy have been buying his type of players. A week after the transfer window and he's gone. Weird.
But results have been poor so you'd think they'd sack him early January and give the new manager the chance to sign his players.

Thrashed 6-0 by Man City (away), lost a 2 goal lead against Bournemouth to lose 3-2 (home), losing a 1 goal lead and conceding 3 in 7 mins against Fulham (home)

Can Cooper last the season?

Nottingham Forest rewarded for their patience + trust in him (extending his contract in Oct) - which was the right thing to do, given that he kinda overperformed when he got them promoted. Of course, they did sign loads of players but Cooper still deserves for integrating them as a team and getting results.

As @Hyena pointed out, results have been poor, but the performances have been not bad. This is good news for USMNT. Marsch is no Klopp or Tuchel, but he is an order of magnitude better than other candidates including Berhalter.

Aaronson
Sinisterra
Tyler Adams
Kristensen
Marc Roca
Gnonto, then
Weston McKennie
Rutter
Max Wober

That's a lot of signings for a manager you decide to sack...

Signing Georginio Rutter for €28m in Jan was a strange decision(/timing) - only 20 yrs old and last season was his first one as 1st team regular.

They have 2 six-pointers against Everton and Southampton coming up towards end of this month - interesting to see who they will bring in.

They've always been a relentless, counter-pressing, high tempo team, so I think it's only right they bring in someone who's calling card is Intensity.
Doesn't have to be an experienced manager. Just someone who knows he's good enough???

Not a great sample but every Leeds fan I know thought they were complete dogshit and should have sacked him way earlier

If Bielsa had the same amount of support in the transfer market that Marsch was given, he would probably still be in the job.
