It’s been debated on here a lot that Salah is not the player he was and his overall contribution is only masked by his insanely high number of goals and assists.

So what does everyone see for our most prolific player in decades.

Last season he finished with 30 goals and 16 assists for a total of 46

Comment with your breakdown.

Goals 35 Assists 15

Think once again it will be up to him to carry us this season. His pace and fitness hasn't diminished at all. He will still bang in the same amount of goals he always does. He's ridiculously consistent. Will he be frustrating at times? Of course, but when hasn't he been? But who gives a fuck when you score and assist as much as he does. Not worried about him at all.

More or less agree here Glen, wouldn't say it's on him to carry us but naturally/instinctively he does end up contributing a large part in the success we've had every season but we can't ignore the work done by the rest of the players. Ali, the fullbacks, (Mane and Bobby in the past) now shifting onto Diaz Nunez/Gakpo.

I think he’ll get a lot more help this season from our attack. Cody is fully bedded in. Nunez can only improve. Diaz and Jota are fit and Trent seems ready to play a more pivotal attacking role. With Alexis and Sob adding much needed running power and Curtis maturing it’s really only our defence I’m worried about unless the injuries stack up heavily.

Wow so far most people (65%) think his end product is going to drop by 50%.

Madness.

If you take away his first season (6 years ago now) which will be incredibly difficult to replicate for any player anywhere, his G/A numbers have ranged from 36 (being the lowest) to 47 (being the highest).

Factor in he isn't getting any younger, his finishing isn't getting any better, the fact he'll be away at AFCON in Jan, and Doak bursting on the scene and will obviously displace Salah in the 2nd half of the season and bang 20 goals......then it's maybe not as mad as first thought.

He’ll miss 3 games. Doak won’t replace Salah when Salah is here and fit. He’ll replace everyone else before Salah.

3 games? AFCON runs from 13th Jan to 11th Feb. I'd imagine he'd need to leave at least a few days before the start date.

Jan/Feb is a very busy month for us, have you seen our schedule? Considering this poll is based on all comps he could be missing for up to 6 games. 6 games for Salah? 5 G/A?

I was kiddin' about Doak btw, if it wasn't obvious.

It depends on the system.

If we play Nunez, then the focus is getting goals through him and Mo will end up staying out wide more often - particularly if Mac A is playing at RCM, because he doesn’t run out wide as much.

That’ll mean a drop in goals for Mo but a potential increase in assists.

If Gakpo plays as a false 9, then Mo will have more space to run in to and he’ll score more.

It’s probably better to look at the overall goal contribution of the 5 forwards, rather than individually - I expect Jota, if he stays fit, to score a fair few, how many Nunez scores is anyone’s guess and I don’t expect Diaz & Gakpo to be massively high.

Gakpo is an interesting one though, he could sit around that 12-15 goal range, but he could be a 20+ goal scorer as well.
