Why are so many posters still talking about, and thinking we should/could sign the creme de la creme players from around the globe for big bucks.
Not a day goes by without someone going up the wall, or seriously questioning why we're 'not in for' the following sort of players:
Reus
Di Maria
Cavani
Kheidira
Benzema
Yaya Toure
Sanchez
Rodriquez
All these sort of players are a bare minimum of 30mill, and in the majority, coming from a 'class 1' team, i.e the teams that have a chance of winning their domestic league every year, and the champions league.
Taking off the rose tinted glasses for a minute, why would these sort of players move from a 'class 1' team, to in all reality, a team that is thankful to be in the top 4, very rarely challenges for the league, and hasn't really been in the champions league as of late. And we can't/wont pay the 200-300k a week wages.
It's just not going to happen. The top players aren't going to go 'oooooo, I really fancy leaving Bayern Munich because I've got a chance to play for liverpool who haven't won the league for over 20years and take a pay cut'.
We, thankfully are in the market for players in and around the 20mill bracket, which gives us opportunity to sign some really really good players, from lesser/equal sort of teams, that can do a great job for us. I'm on about the sorts of Lallana's, Lovren's, Bony's, Sturridge's etc.
People banging on about us 'being in for Reus' etc are clearly mental, he's a great player, we're a great club, but we're not at a stage where we can attract these sort of players, nor will we be any time soon. We need to start winning our domestic league on some sort of regular basis and challenging to the later stages of the champions league every year before we can start attracting these sort of players. That or get bought out by oil rich owners that don't care about FFP and start bribing players with 300-400k a week wages.
We might end this summer with Lambert, Lallana, Can, Lovren, Moreno, Origi, Markovic, Bony - which is a marvellous window! A much much stronger first team and squad over all. But some people wont be happy unless we sign a player that we have no chance signing. Just because we've 75mill in the bank, that doesn't mean we can attract 75mill players. If we had 200mill in the bank could we attract messi? I think not.
I'll be over the moon if we signed the 8 players above this summer, it would give us a great chance of staying in the top 4 for the forseeable future playing the style of football we do, and it would most likely replace suarez's goals.
