The World Class Player Thread..

I don't think there is a 'world class' defender out there bar Terry (sorry, he's incredible unfortunately) ... Ivanovic comes close, but that's about it.

Nesta is genuinely the last defender that I'd class as world class.
There's a case for Lahm but he seems a jack of all trades.

Ivanovic is the best right back in the game defensively and offensively, despite his lack of overlapping

If you're using the commonly held definition of world class, he's in - and in the same group.as Messi and Ronaldo. (which is retarded)

I've never minded Ivanovic even though it feels like (from my distorted memory at least) he tends to score big goals against us. Great player.

What happened to the all the great midfielders and defenders in the game? I can't really name a single player in those positions without hesitation.

Pique has periods where he looks world class (he's looks back to his best this year after an awful period)... but I doubt many people would be happy labelling him world class.

Midfielders -

CMs - I think Modric and Schweinsteiger are world class. Up there with Pirlo, Scholes, Xavi and Xabi from the last decade.

Yaya, Fabregas are a rung below IMO in terms of influence - better at scoring goals than controlling a game.

Pogba, Koke, Kroos, Kovacic are the big hopes for the upcoming generation - let's see how good they become.

AMs- Silva and Goetze are the best around. But you're right - they're not generational talents like the kind we've seen in Zidane, Kaka and Iniesta.

Perhaps the likes of Coutinho, Isco, James and Eriksen can go on to reach those heights, though I seriously doubt it.

Off the top of my dome, as of this exact moment in time:

Messi
Ronaldo
Suarez
Aguero
Yaya
David Silva
Robben
Lewandowski
Gotze
Muller
Thiago Silva
Ibrahimovic
Bale
Benzema
Modric
Sergio Ramos
Varane
Pique
Godin
Busquets
Hazard
Costa
Fabregas
Ivanovic
Alexis Sanchez
DeBruyne
Tevez

And I will take a bunch of shit for this one but:

Michael Carrick

Almost but not quite awarded
Kane, Koke, and Christian Eriksen with coveted "world class status."

Honorable mench for Dirk Kuyt.

You bastard, fishing for Macca likes

No - it's genuine. Echo reports:
Liverpool Under-21s boss Michael Beale saluted the finishing expertise of Samed Yesil after the young German striker scored twice in their 3-1 win over Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
The 20-year-old frontman only returned to action earlier this month in a substitute’s appearance against Fulham after two years wrecked by back to back cruciate ligament injuries.
The £1million signing from Bayer Leverkusen was handed two first-team appearances by Brendan Rodgers during the 2012/13 season and is looking to force his way back into contention.
Beale told Liverpoolfc.com: “It was great to see Samed getting two goals and only he could have scored the type of goals he got tonight, and with his wrong foot.
“It was great to see him after the game with a big smile on his face. He has worked so hard to get back to full fitness and his sharpness is coming back.”
There was also joy for another injury absentee with 18-year-old Ryan Kent also scoring. He also returned in the Fulham game after three months out with a back injury.
The young Reds made the best possible start against Spurs when they netted inside five minutes when Kent fired into the bottom corner.
Before the half-hour mark it was 2-0 as Germany Under-21s international Yesil pounced on a loose ball and finished in style.
Four minutes into the second half Yesil added a third before Will Miller pulled a late goal back for the home side.
“Ryan scored a great goal with his left foot and he, Harry Wilson and Sergi Canos were terrific for us,” Beale added.
“Corey (Whelan) was superb on his debut and Connor Randall and Alex O’Hanlon did a great job.”
The win moves Liverpool back up to second in the Barclays U21s league table after back to back losses to Fulham and Leicester within a week. They are a point behind Manchester United but have now played a game more.

It's strange.
I've actually never seen him have an outstanding game but his first touch is fucking top notch.
He's got a quality first touch, his passing can be excellent, his shooting (close or from distance) is respectable, his pace was lightning... But.... Nah.

Just..... Nah
