Transfer window: the Verdict

Why is it poor? Everyone knows they have spent the most money, but its a decent overview for anyone interested.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what it's trying to say but if it's taking at "look at what these guys have spent over the last 10 years", it's a bit stupid.

Pochettino spent most of that time at Espanyol and Southampton. Even Spurs don't spend comparable sorts of money to the big boys.

Klopp started that period of at a mid-table club in a league that's still not known for spending extravagantly. He's also had a year out.

Conte took 2 years away from club football as Italy manager and were / are Juve in the business of spending big money irrespective of manager?

As for Wenger, we're meant to believe that for a large part of that period Arsenal were focused on paying off debts.

It's only really Mourinho and Guardiola that have consistently been at clubs known for outspending the competition (bar perhaps Mourinho's stint at Inter, though he did squeeze every last bit out of them before he jumped ship).

City missing out on Sanchez is your reason they won't win the PL ? Aguero, Jesus, De Bruyne, David Silva, Gundogan, Sane, B Silva, Sterling etc isn't enough attacking power (to say nothing of the excellent job they've done rebuilding their weak FB and GK positions ?

I think like us to a degree they are unbalanced but he would have masked a lot of that as he's that good.

The verdict?

Overall.....average to shite. But let's look at the positives....sort of:

The Good:

1) We didn't sell Coutinho - which is a big fucking poke in the eye for all the TinFoil Hatters monging their way around the boards - so that was good - in principle anyway; I'd have sold the cunt for £120m or whatever, and God knows what he'll be like on the pitch once his fucking tears have dried. Maybe this isn't "good" after all, but all that said, we didn't have anyone else to replace him.

2) We bought Salah, who looks good, and adds more pace and goals. Hurray!

3) We actually bought Keita! OK, so he doesn't join until next year, but it's better than nothing and another statement of intent and support for the manager.

4) We sold players like the hapless Sakho and Lucas. At fucking last. And Origi is gone, at least for a season. Yay!

The Bad:

1) Fucking VVD. The only quality CB in the fucking world, apparently. What a fucking travesty. It's well-known we have one of the worst defences of any club challneging for the top 4 in the league. So we don't buy a CB, sell Sakho (no issue there, really) but we now have a first-choice CB partnership of Matip and Dejan Lovren. Comfortbaly one of the worst CB pairings in the country.

2) Midfield. Still no fucking DM. Cheers Klopp. And probably losing Can to Juve, so that's awesome. We'll concede a fucking hatload of goals AGAIN.

3) Goalkeepers. Just what the fuck is going on? Two cunts so mediocre he can't work out which one is less shit. Great work.

4) We still haven't bought a reliable, top-quality striker. Despite the well-known and proven need for one. Just great!

5) Oxlade-Chamberlain for £40m. Hahahahaha! An over-priced, over-rated player nobody wanted, and we don't need. Wonderful.

6) Apparently Moreno is our first-choice LB.

7) How the fuck is that useless twat Markovic still at the club?

8) FSG spent virtually fuck all again. Useless cunts. Although as stated in Point 1, some kudos for telling Barca to fuck off.

It's only really Mourinho and Guardiola that have consistently been at clubs known for outspending the competition (bar perhaps Mourinho's stint at Inter, though he did squeeze every last bit out of them before he jumped ship).

If i recall correctly Mourinho did outspend all the major clubs in Serie A, on players at their peak like Milito, Eto, Sjneider, Pandev etc. Selling Ibhramovic to Barcelona for what was an obscene amount at that time did help the net transfer figure.

Pure madness to hold back from signing players in the hope that Ozil, Sanchez and Ox would sign new contracts.

Now the remaining players know they're unwanted, there's no way Ozil & Sanchez will re-sign, they've lost the transfer fees on these two players and no one wants to join them.

They should have written off the season and started the rebuilding.

Wait, so their owners plan is to pull a Leicester?! Aka, hope for a complete fluke? Jesus christ, are they the most deluded fuckwits around, I'd be seething if I was an Arsenal fan.

Now the remaining players know they're unwanted

I'm not sure how big of an issue that is given that the likes of Giroud probably know leaving is taking a step down. Similar to the situation we have with quite a few of our players.

It's all good news for us. Just hope Spurs also lose their way after moving to a new stadium but they seem in a stronger position to cope. Either way It's good to see one of our top 4 rivals potentially slip away. We need some regular CL appearances to progress and reestablish ourselves. Arsenal just seems a ticking tone bomb into Europa League obscurity. I wonder how long Lacazette can hack all the doom and gloom?

European clubs paid on average 30% more than a player was worth during the recent transfer window, a study says.
The CIES Football Observatory, using a transfer value algorithm, claims Paris St-Germain's proposed 180m euro (£165.7m) deal to sign Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe was the most overpriced.
It says the fee was 87.4m euros (£80.4m) more than his estimated worth.
The study also suggests Manchester City overpaid by 29m euros to sign Benjamin Mendy from Monaco for 57.5m.
The Football Observatory uses various statistics, including age, goals and points won by the team, to calculate a value for a player.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, 23, left Sunderland for Everton for 34.3m euros (£31.6m) in the summer was called up to the England squad last month.
However, according to the Football Observatory, that fee was 27.5m euros (£23.5m) more than Pickford's estimated worth.
The study also said Manchester United overpaid by 20.1m euros (£18.5m) to sign Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, although former England striker and BBC pundit Ian Wright described it as the "last part of the jigsaw" for United.
Mohammed Salah's 50m euro (£46m) move from Roma to Liverpool was less than the forward's estimated value of 69.4m euros (£63.9m).

Any algorithm that values Kyle Walker at £40m is clearly one of those string theory multiverse type situations that's speculating on an infinite number of realities, in one them some sort of Zimbabwe like hyper inflation has occurred and £40m is about a tenner is our money.

So we absolutely robbed Roma for Salah according to this, and it overestimates what we actually paid. I happen to agree.

The figures produced by the "CIES Football Observatory" always seem to be pretty divorced from reality.

Mirror also agreed with our Net Spend

Ins: Mohamed Salah (Roma, £39m), Dominic Solanke (Chelsea, compensation), Andy Robertson (Hull, £8m), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal, £40m)

Outs: Lucas Leiva (Lazio, £5m), Andre Wisdom (Derby, £1.95m), Ryan Fulton (Hamilton, free), Kevin Stewart (Hull, undisclosed), Adam Phillips (Norwich, free), Alex Manninger (retired), Sheyi Ojo (Fulham, loan), Divock Origi (Wolfsburg, loan), Allan Rodrigues de Souza (Apollon Limassol, loan), Toni Gomes (Forest Green, loan), Jordan Williams (Rochdale, loan), Sam Hart (Blackburn, undisclosed), Mamadou Sakho (Crystal Palace, £26m)

LIVERPOOL NET SPEND: £54.05MILLION

6 mill loan fee for Origi, and we paid some premium to get Keita. That will be paid this summer. So its more than 54 mill I reckon.
