So we currently don’t have anyone here with the required set of skills to take care of the technical side - but surely our combined network of friends and colleagues is vast enough to find someone who can do it. Maybe they would need to be compensated, but it’s still probably better to hire a person someone knows - and who knows, maybe they will become addicted to SCM as well and give us a discount.

Anyone want to ask around? Can someone clearly formulate the skill requirements and approximate time commitment it would entail?

For those of a mildly technical disposition a brief explaination.

Our forum is housed on a virtual server commercially hosted. It is a pretty simple affair (Dual CPU and 2GB Ram with 2 volumes of storage). The server OS is installed on the first volume and uses that for housekeeping (logs and backups). The application software (this forum) is installed on the second volume.

The first volume ran out of space and so the database that underpins the forum software stopped working as it was unable to operate. The database couldn't be restarted as it had no logging space nor temp space for the it to come online and so whilst the forum software could 'boot' it couldn't operate without the database.

Jono extended the primary volume to create additional space which allowed the database to start up (log/temp space available) but the forum couldn't operate as the loss of space when the problem occured had corrupted the search indexes. Jono kicked off a rebuild that fixed the indexes and so we are back up and running for now.
