What is the general opinion on him now that we have seen a fair few glimpses of him?

I could understand from the Norwich match thread that a few thought he looked a proper player, and one that will come good soon.

I am afraid I just don't see it at all.

He can pass a ball I can see that, but he looks like he's several yard of the pace and perhaps it's simply because he's slow in movement? He almost looks clumsy and despite being tall-ish I think he is going to struggle with the physical aspect, as he simply doesn't show enough pace or balance to compensate. At least not yet.

So far I haven't seen one single action from his foot that made me think, wow, there's a player there. If I had to make a bet now with regards to his Anfield career, it would be fringe player at best.

What do you reckon?

This isn't anything to do with the player you believe he was bought instead of is it?

FWIW, he looks decent, nothing more, nothing less, but he hasn't had the time to show he's anything more, so I hope he gets it.

No.

I mean if he is good he is good. But is he any good? I just don't think I've seen anything implying that he's going to improve us as a team.

Not convinced at all as of yet.
We could easily have bought him next summer for the same price or lower, with him having further developed.
Did score a cracking goal in pre-season though.

I'd like to see him play for 90 mins but from what I've seen he's a very classy player.
Unfortunately he comes on when the game ha died down or when the opposition has 10 men behind the ball and we need a goal so you can't be too harsh on him.

Is he more of an AM than a CM or a bit of both? The number on his back confuses me.

Looks ok but definitely overpriced. Ballague was surprised we payed so much for him. Hard to tell if he'll any good, but haven't seen anything yet that says quality player but still early days and may just need a season to settle. But its amazing how many players we buy that seem to need time to settle and yet other clubs buy foreigners who seem to just hit it off straight away. Is it a case of needing time to settle or just not very good? Deulofeu looks A LOT better than alberto and needed no time to settle at all.

Coutinho and Suarez also hit the ground running for us, and there are also indications that Sakho is not going to need that long.

But I agree to an extent, I mostly think it's down to a lot of the foreigners we bring in simply are not ready or good enough to make an impact.

I am not going to write any of our new ones off as of now, apart from Cissokho, but a lot of them have already got a lot of question marks surrounding them.

Haven't seen enough of him to judge him. Norwich had given up when he came on, so it was easy to look decent.

I think it's a matter of timing - players aren't the same all the way through their career and if you get them too early or too late - people will say they were unable to settle when the reality is they just weren't good enough.

It doesn't matter whether it's a foreigner or someone who has been playing in the league for years. Keane, Downing, Carroll etc - they just weren't any good at the time we signed them. Contrast that with Torres - who was great when he arrived but is rubbish now. If it had been the other way round people would have talked about his failure to settle. The best just turn up and are good to go straight away.

With Alberto my issue with him was the price, there was really nothing that justified it. Players with a similar profile tend to go for less than 3m.
But looking at him, his lack of any noticeable physical gifts - be it pace, stamina, whatever makes we wonder if he'll make it here.

Not convinced, not seen enough of him. Seems more like hendo than coutinho at the moment. We'll see, he may come good and be brilliant.

He always wants the ball and seems to have a really good short passing game. Can see him and Coutinho unlocking a lot of defenses in the future, I don't think we can make a call on him yet save to say he'll definitely be a better player than Christian Eriksen 😛

He operates really well between the lines, he's one of those players who seems to ghost into an attacking position and is thus really hard to pick up. So long as he gets enough licence to play his natural game I think he'll do well because he's a crafty, clever player, and we don't have enough of those.

I enjoyed his interplay with Coutinho at times, when those two pass to each other it's a joy to watch. But when he dropped deep to pick up the ball, I think he lost it twice in a dangerous position. So I would say, promising, but still raw.

He looks like what he is. A young, Spanish player adjusting to the rigours of the Premier League. He has a touch of class about him, but it's far too early to make a judgement yet. We need more games like Wednesday so we can bring him on for the odd half an hour without any pressure.

Deulofeu is on loan from Barcelona though! We'd hardly be able to just buy him.

Alberto is a decent player that needs game time. He has everything except pace. He'll be a decent CM.

About to post this. Well spotted Slug. This thread from KHL screams, "We should have signed Ericksen". I can see right through him. Can't believe people are falling for it. Crafty Dane.

Back on topic, I like what I see of Alberto. I want him to get more minutes under his belt hopefully starting Sat coming on for Gerrard after the hour mark.
