Looks ok but definitely overpriced. Ballague was surprised we payed so much for him. Hard to tell if he'll any good, but haven't seen anything yet that says quality player but still early days and may just need a season to settle. But its amazing how many players we buy that seem to need time to settle and yet other clubs buy foreigners who seem to just hit it off straight away. Is it a case of needing time to settle or just not very good? Deulofeu looks A LOT better than alberto and needed no time to settle at all.

He did need time to settle Glen. An Everton supporter at work was telling me that Deulofeu had to work on his defensive game a lot at first. He also said he isn't ready to be an automatic starter but the talent is there. He has pace to burn and excellent balance but needs to work on his decision making. He cited a few chances that he should have tucked away against us and United. Deulofeu is an exceptional talent and worth a lot more than Alberto.

It will be interesting to see what Barca do with him in the summer. They might flog him on but will it be to Everton?

He always wants the ball and seems to have a really good short passing game. Can see him and Coutinho unlocking a lot of defenses in the future, I don't think we can make a call on him yet save to say he'll definitely be a better player than Christian Eriksen 😛

Agreed, for the most part, although I do rate Eriksen but I think hes more a Coutinho then an Alberto. I think hes part of the group you can see as 'Rodgers' players along with Allen and Coutinho. I still think we are in a transition period with regards the midfield, Henderson is not the sort of midfielder I expect to see Rodgers signing, Alberto is

I like him as I've mentioned elsewhere, but worryingly everytime I see him I think of Bruno Cheyrou.

He does have that 'floaty' quality about the way he moves.

Hopefully the comparisons can stop right there.

I'm not even sure if I've seen him play. I think I've watched every match this season so that's a little worrying.

Indeed. It's a particularly worrying comparison because Cheyrou had looked a decent enough player before he arrived.

Ha... I was thinking this a few days ago, it's worrying reminiscent of Cheyrou/Le Tallec, all flair and great technical ability when he's afforded all the space in the World. Hopefully he'll step up where they didn't.

I haven't a clue what he's supposed to provide us with in the few games he's played so far. He gets involved and does a bit of 5m passing but aside from that I'm still completely unsure what his job on the pitch is.

How can anyone really judge based on a couple of brief sub appearances?

He does seem to fit the Spanish stereotype at the moment of having good technique and sense of purpose in the final third but it's hard to say quite what his level is now and how much potential there is because unless you've seen him play for Barca B there has been very little evidence to base an opinion on.

He's looking like a bit of a luxury signing at the moment because the team looks like it needs players for now rather than two years from now but here's hoping it's not another Wilson / Coates type situation and he does end up establishing himself here in some capacity.

I think he should be given a chance and Henderson's form and lack of guile in the final third warrants Alberto being picked ahead.

Or Paletta or San Jose.

He will develop into a nice goal-scoring midfielder. His shooting technique is top-notch, but he doesn't have many chances to show it because he is not used to the pace of the game at the senior level in England. He'll get there by next season, I think.
