Ancelotti appointed Chelsea boss

Ancelotti spent eight years at the San Siro
Former AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has been appointed Chelsea manager on a three-year deal.

The 49-year-old Italian left the Rossoneri on Sunday after guiding them to a third-place finish in Serie A.

He replaces Russian international coach Guus Hiddink who ended his stint at Stamford Bridge by clinching the FA Cup at the weekend.

"Carlo was the outstanding candidate for the job," read a statement on the Chelsea website.

"He has proved over a long period his ability to build teams that challenged for, and have been successful in, major domestic and European competitions.

"He also had a highly successful playing career in those competitions and therefore brings unparalleled all round experience to the job," the statement added.

He officially takes over on 1 July after spending eight seasons at Milan.

In that time he twice won the Champions League, in 2003 and 2007, and the Serie A title in 2004.

He has also coached Italian sides Reggiana, Parma and Juventus.

Ancelotti was also a successful player, winning two league titles and two European Cups with Milan.

Chelsea finished third in the Premier League this season were semi-finalists in the Champions League but triumphed in the FA Cup final with a 2-1 win over Everton.

Ancelotti becomes the fourth Chelsea manager in 21 months following Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant, Luiz Felipe Scolari and Hiddink.

"He has proved over a long period his ability to build teams that challenged for, and have been successful in, major domestic and European competitions."

And has proved over a long period his ability to work under an owner who wants to run the team.

And has proved over a long period his inability to make an aging squad younger or more competitive in the league.

The Chelsea players are right, they need this appointment to work in the long term, otherwise they'll run out of experienced successful managers who're willing to take over.

This seems a watertight appointment though, and they'll be a strong force next year.

I'm much more pleased that this fucker is there than Hiddink. Hiddink was a decent bloke and could have done some real damage if he had a chance to build.

is that sarcasm?
I think it's the wrong choice myself, I can see a major fuck up here.

He'll keep them ticking over and competing on all four fronts. In that sense it's a safe appointment. His reputation seems to have nosedived in recent years but the interference he's tolerated at AC accounts for part of that- he wanted Adebayor and got stuck with Ronaldinho, etc.

Will the same happen at Chelsea? Probably, to a point, but reports suggest he's sat down with Roman and drawn up a list of targets together which is promising from his point of view.

Whether he'll have the sufficient power and quality to get them winning the major trophies, I don't know. But I certainly don't think this spells disaster.

Avram Grant kept them ticking over, so I hardly think says a whole lot.

I think it's his record in the CL that got him the job - that's the one that Abramovich wants.

I don't really follow Italian football much, so don't know what his job situation at Milan was like - hope he fails here at Chelsea though.

AC are losing some of their best assets this summer.

Ancelotti, Kaka (if rumours are to be believed), Maldini's retirement. Who else? Inzhagi must be close to retirement at 35, as is Seedorf 33, Nesta and Zambrotta.

Maybe he jumped ship knowing they're not going to be competitive for a few seasons.

Isn't his english quite poor though? How can someone manage superstars and devise tactics, when he no speaka da lingo. Remember that French lad at Portsmouth. If his English is bad, this has disaster written all over it. Much prefer to play against Ancelotti than Huddink

What's the bets Chelsea draw AC Milan at some point in the CL next year ?
Hmmm.....before or after we've played them?

I suppose the one good thing with Ancelotti is that if we draw them rather than keeping it simple like Grant and Hiddink he will impose tactics like Mourinho, which could favour us more.

Ancelotti = T-1000

Packs so much potential but dies in the end.
That doesn't work on any level whatsoever, you unfunny fucking bellend

Fuck off.

Chelsea won't sack him, regardless.

Ancelloti, Hiddink, Mourinho, Scolari in two years ( As well as Avram ) He'll last the season at the very least.

Holy Cow on both ages...

Apologies on that one...!!

In his first interview he went on and on about how the Champions League is the most important competition for anyone in football. I hope Jamie 'Cor Blimey Trousers' Redknapp gives him a jolly good telling off.
