Aquilani comments on future

Yes that discussion was held before with differing views. Personally I would have preferred to get the players, who were going to start season, fit.

Just to clarify, so would I. I was putting forward what I think the rationale might have been, not saying I agreed with it.

it's a no brainer and it's infuriating we do the same thing every season with the same results every season (with the exception of the season we came 2nd - 4 straight wins)

Fiorentina transfer chief Pantaleo Corvino has discussed the futures of Alberto Gilardino and Riccardo Montolivo, as well as revealing the truth about Alberto Aquilani.

Gilardino has been linked with a switch to Genoa, but the sporting director insists nothing has been decided.

“I haven’t yet received an official offer,” Corvino noted. “Genoa have manifested their interest, but that is all.

“Whoever remains at this club must show an attachment to the shirt. We have a need for players who want Fiorentina and who are happy to stay.”

One man who wants out is Montolivo, the now former club captain who has refused to sign an extension to his contract which expires in 2012.

“I was offered a swap deal by his agent, but I wasn’t satisfied,” Corvino continued. “To be specific, Milan offered me a half share in Rodney Strasser and Alberto Paloschi.

“Perhaps someone thinks that they can wait until the last day of the window and then make an absurd offer.

“If Riccardo is sold then he will be released to a foreign club.”

The Viola thought they had already found a replacement for Montolivo in the form of Italy international Aquilani.

“He was my idea, the Coach didn’t ask me for him. We had agreed a loan with Liverpool and Aquilani, but then the player asked for a permanent transfer.”

The Viola chief then answered questions on Alessio Cerci, Milan’s Antonio Cassano and Gaston Ramirez of Bologna.

“Alessio is important and he hasn’t asked to be sold. Manchester City made us an offer, but it didn’t meet our demands.

“Cassano wouldn’t seem like a logical buy for a 4-3-3 system.

“Ramirez is a second striker or he could play wide in a 4-3-3, but that doesn’t mean that we’ll sign him.”

Can we all have a pact not to comment on this thread until the chap is sold? I keep coming into this thread expecting some news of some kind only to find more of the great SCM Acquaman/vagina debate. No more please!

Football Italia says 7 mill € fee

if that's the fee then we're truly getting bent over ...i mean he's in the italian national team and gets caps ...imagine if this was an english player in the national team looking to move back home , there'd be clubs all over him . Stupid Italians .

It's quite the opposite, mate.

7m euros, ouch. still i think i'd rather that and aquilani gone than £12m for meireles, particularly if milan are picking up 100% of his wages, which they probably won't be, naturally.

what a depressing episode.
I agree with this. I want Meireles to stay. I just want this whole disaster over and done with and Aquilani gone. At this stage 7m plus saving his massive wages for the next four years is a huge plus and hopefully means one more first team option coming in.

let's just cross our fingers for now and say his £80k a week is off the payroll. i presume he has 3 years to run on his contract, as i'd have thought meireles also does if he signed for 4 years, at £30k a week. that's £2.5m a year extra we're saving over having meireles off the wage bill, or £7.5m over the 3 years. therefore a ~£6m fee for aqua is equivalent to a £13.5m fee if the choice is between the 2, if you follow my thinking, which makes it more than we could probably fetch for raul and therefore a bit of a no-brainer.
Plus Meireles is a fucking gun. Aquilani just needs to go home now.

yeah, sorry, i was on a bit of a figures bender there, always irresistable to me. the point was that the numbers add up ON TOP of meireles being the much preferred option.

For me if Rafa, Uncle Roy, Juventus manager last year AND Kenny dont fancy him then thats good enough for me. I like him but theres something fundamentally wrong with him. Cut bait i say.
