I think this is what people need to understand. He might be an option from the bench, but it's hardly protecting our investment to give him the odd late substitute appearance. His value will go south quite quickly. This way, he'll be playing for a team who will play to his strengths, and provided he makes the most of the opportunity, it guarantees a good fee next year (whether that's from West Ham, or another club). Furthermore, I think you have to assume that his departure is necessary for us to conduct more business in the transfer market.
