Brendan Rodgers - Right man for the job?

I haven't started a thread in the FF for a long, long time and there are probably loads of Rodgers threads but sure here goes......

Just reading through Glock's thread there, and although no-one really agreed with him, it did make think that it is inevitable more and more will call for BR to go. I can see on Twitter already people looking for the club to sack him and bring in a 'name' to manage us. I do not get the mentality of those calling for him to be sacked or even questioning his job after what 15/20 games of football. Madness.

I find that I really like Rodgers as a manager. We are doing the right things on the pitch, or at least trying to in every game I have watched. He is making good decisions with the squad and has shown a lot more tactical flexibility then I though he was capable of. The last few weeks have been great to see. Unbeaten for a few games, yes we should have more wins, but as the season has gone on we've gotten better defensively which is always a good sign. Sacking (and paying off managers) has put us in a worse situation than before. I would like the club to keep BR in there and back him. I think he is a good, young manager and will develop into a top-class manager. At this early stage, I think we have found the right person and I hope he is managing Liverpool for years to come.

People sang for Dalglish at the Wigan game

Now, I don't know if he was in the ground or not, but if he wasn't its just poor.

Hopefully he was in the ground, cause wanting him back now sounds very strange tbh.

I'm pretty indifferent to Rodgers, and not sure if he'll succeed, but it'd be completely pointless sacking him. He gets the year for me, except in the case we're in serious danger of relegation.

Dalglish must have been in the ground. It never crossed my mind that he wasn't.

And immediately after there was a really shitty 'there's only one Brendan Rogers' - which was loud enough but sounded like when a bunch of teenage boys get told they've got to sing happy birthday to their sister.

See it was a small section of the kop that sang Dalglish. How would they know? Why didn't the whole kop sing?

Maybe you're right... It was just an assumption... I dunno what else to say really... If people want Dalglish back at this stage then I'm surprised they can wipe their own arses or communicate at all.

I was absolutely disgusted. If I was at the match on my own, I would have walked out. I was disgusted with our support. I didn't agree when Dalglish was sang under Hodgson and I don't agree with it fucking now.

I think so, I mean I have doubts about his leadership abilities and our inability to win games but I think we can all see a lot of progress. What is most encouraging is his flexibility to ćhange course if its not working. I also love the fact we have a style (some of the time) that will attract good players. And the blooding of the youth is good for our bottom line, attracting other new young players and selling on players down the road. You can see the club foundation in place. I hope our academy continues to flourish

And I personally would usually be one of those people seeking a big name manager. But we should give this new approach time to reap fruit. Otherwise we're back at square one. Make no bones about it though- we are very lucky those academy changes were made and these players coming through can make the grade

When we lose another 3 games before the transfer window open, you lot will be the first one to join the BR sack bandwagon. Up until now yeah you can say whatever you like.

I dont wish us to get beaten but i just dont see us winning that many games before the window open. And that is going to be critical before the owners decide whether to sign new players or pay off BR for a long vacation.

I was in the kop, Id say it was 50/50 with the "Dalglish" and then the "there s only one Brendan Rodgers"..
My impression was Kenny's still the king and we're showing him some respect, that wasnt a call for his comeback.

Is he the right man for the job? Who knows?. Where we're at in January will decide it, I think.

You'd have to have a crystal ball and the bravery (or general ignorance and blind optimism) of the owners to calculate the chances of this gamble paying off..

This appointment was a change of direction from the two attempts to hire an experienced Manager with Hodgson and Dalglish in favour of young blood to change the culture of high expectation and the salaries to match. We are now using home grown and shopping bargain basement with an ethos of less is more.

This appointment feels like a real punt to me. Progress has been patchy as might have been expected but a few losses between now and Christmas might make the fans and the owners jumpy. I do think we've become a club casting about in all directions hoping something will work.

From what I have read, it won't make the owners jumpy.
They are settling in for the long haul with Rodgers.
It'd want to go very, very wrong for him to be removed.

It was 2 distinct parts of the kop, one Dalglish, one rodgers.

How come we weren't singing benitez? He's still loved... Somehow. How come we weren't singing about any other manager?

How come it was 1 section or the kop? Not the whole lot?

If he was there it wouldn't have been confined to 1 part of 1 stand.

Find me evidence Kenny was there and I'll back down, otherwise it was disgraceful to our current manager.

The singing is just naff at this stage. I doubt even Shanks had the crowd singing his name after just a handful of games. Sing names when they've earned it. And if they must sing Rodgers' name, surely they can do better than 'There's only one...''? It's not even true!

I'm slightly encouraged that Rodgers seems to have emerged from that informal meeting with the former players association a little calmer and more down to earth: he's made a point, since then, of downgrading the novelty of his approach via-vis the old Liverpool way, and he doesn't seem quite so uneasy about dealing with the traditions. I still think they should have brought in an old LFC figure to support him, as Robinson did with Thommo for Houllier. Someone like that could have lent him some legitimacy, defended him from any criticism and strengthened the idea of continuity - and also built-up the man's sense of security in private, and advised him against the rash public criticisms of players. Pascoe looks a waste of space so far, and Marsh is far too junior to have much input.

Good post Macca, although I think Pascoe looks a pretty good asistant manager so far.

Dalglish is the best player to have ever played for the club, and one of the most successful managers. If any fan wants to sing his name they're entitled to do so. It's no slight on the incumbent, any more than Shankly chants.
