We've had more than our fair share of bad transfers most notably carroll or downing, but last summer we've made substantial bids on players who chose to go to other clubs or stay put. Is there players you're glad now that we missed out on?
Lamela comes to mind any others

Oh, last summer

Yeah, willian

Everyone else is seemingly tearing shit up

The vast majority of Premier league teams seemed to have signed players who've made fuck all difference to them.
City and Everton are the only ones you could say might have improved themselves - and City not as much as they should have given what was spent.

Willian was the most obvious bullet in the world

Well, out of all the big players we were linked with in the summer, there's only one performing.
Willian, Mkhitaryan, Eriksen - have largely done nothing. Mkhitaryan has gone from scoring a goal a game in the mickey mouse league, to scoring 1 in 5 for Dortmund. Same goes for the other 2, at the moment they're not adapted from much weaker leagues into a proper one.
Costa though - scoring goals for fun..

Soldado, jokativic? et al (including eriksen, and to a certain extent Ozil) have been average to poor. The notable exception has been Negredo.

Ozil was excellent for his first 2 or 3 games, but even the arse fans have admitted he's tailed off a bit. He's not shit, but he's not setting the world on fire, he's not scoring now, nor really assisting, where he was a the start. I guess he's being a bit overshadowed by Ramsey/Willshere's performances as of late also though.

Lamela. Rumoured as being loaned out in January.

Everton improved themselves dramatically with loan signings.

It's quite early to be writing off a lot of these players. Bale was getting laughed off for quite a while - remember the whole Spurs lose every time he plays stat?

Then there is the question of clubs with big budgets stockpiling players. The fact that those players aren't setting the world alight now doesn't necessarily mean they're shit and it's a bullet dodged. Just highlights once again that when your finances have no limits you can prevent your rivals from signing players and then just loan them out / bench them.

It's similar for Costa - just because he's scoring for fun at A.Madrid doesn't mean he would've for us. The reason he's scoring so many this season is because he's been made the main man following the departure of Falcao. That wouldn't have happened at Liverpool.
