Some brilliant moves, that were wasted, and some lucky breaks (how did he miss that header?) but two ex-newcastle boys give us all 3 points and ensure Rafa can manage Newcastle next year, if so he choose ... 3 more wins and COME ON you manc bastards for Wednesday

Love Gini's celebration.

He's much better at striking the ball when he has no time to think

Great 3 points

Milners penalty taker when on the pitch, anyone else can fuck off.
Salah should not have done that. He knows the rules and procedure, that was definitely a case of putting his own interest ahead of the team. He should not have done that wether it be 1-0 or 4-0.

Kinda weird trusting a Liverpool team. As Foxy said during the thread, there's no need to panic going into the 2nd half needing a goal. These boys have a calm belief about them, and they deliver time and again.
It's so very foreign to me, but I rarely feel like we aren't going to win, even when it's 0-0 at like 60minutes, I love this team.

Matip for me is fast becoming a top class CB, reminds me a bit like agger in sense of very good on the ball...likes to come out and play a bit and isn't really overly aggressive.

Agree with his motm award although I thought both Sadio and Naby were excellent too.

Robbo Trent and Alisson were quite poor, especially the full backs....Trent being roasted and both keep giving it away too easily

Matip was always good - I just think the opinions on him are split on here, but to be honest I cannot remember the last time he has had such a long run in the team. I think he is really good as an individual defender, just is not the organiser type like VVD is. I think it is unfair to use VVD as the benchmark for all future defender purchases, he is both individually brilliant, cool headed, and an organiser - these qualities in one defender are not easily found on the market.

A player like Van Dijk comes once every decade, it's pointless even arguing players should try and imitate or model his game because it won't happen no matter how much they try.

Every footballer should have their own game and right now Matip's doing a more than adequate job.

Matip terrifies me. He has been on a mostly good run lately and long may it continue - but he isnt the droid we're looking for.
This is spot on.. he still has a 50 pence head. A couple of his headers yesterday proved that.

I'd keep him as 4th choice next season, sell Lovren and get in another pricey CB. For cover for if Gomez gets injured again.

Matip has undoubtedly improved massively since being in the side on this extended run.

To caveat that though, his heading is woeful, & we drop deeper against better sides when he plays to combat the way they let him play it out.

Yesterday was the first game where we didn't do so, partly because he seemed to want to try to release the ball much earlier after only travelling with it a few yards, hopefully cos he's been told to do so.

In recent games it's been clear sides have been backing off when he's in possession & offering him space to run in to, knowing that he'll often lose it & they can then attack with 'only' VVD at the back.

I'm not sure whether the rest of the defence dropping back a couple of yards when he has possession is coached or just reactive, but regardless, it really affects our game both in defensive shape & attacking.

As a fourth choice centre back for a title challenging side I have no qualms whatsoever with him, but he's no more than that, & the sooner either Lovren is back in the side, or preferably, Gomez, the happier I'll be.

I'd be amazed if Klopp spends big on a centre back with Hoever waiting to break into the side, he needs to know there's a route for him into the first team.

VVD & Gomez first choice, Matip & Hoever to fight it out for third or fourth choice. One other capable CB who is of similar ability will be fine. Ideally I'd say keep Lovren but don't think he'll be happy being benched most weeks, & regardless, he's an awful back up option, cos when you need to him he's invariably injured or 'ill', the lad has never played more than 7 games in a row for us I believe.

He's been far better than Lovren
I know I'm in the minority, but I honestly believe Lovren is the better centre back, albeit with the caveat (twice I've used that word this morning) that if he could play as he has the last couple of games consistently then I'd agree.

Lovren is much more aggressive for me, & is much better in the air too.

I assume the fact he is rarely available for a few games on the bounce means Klopp has had enough of Lovren though, which combined with matips recent form is more than fair.

Cardiff City 0 Liverpool 2: The Match Ratings

by Ben Johnson | Apr 21, 2019 | 4 comments

OH. My. God. I mean, you can’t watch that fucking match and not think The Reds are not going to somehow win the league.
We are fucking spawny, la. How hasn’t that lad scored? How hasn’t he scored? How hasn’t it at least hit his massive head and gone in instead of it somehow bouncing off his back?
It’s a fucking Red Shite diddle.

Alisson: 8

Has nothing to do then makes a save and a half. Has nothing to do then comes and punches everything second half.
Made a save second half that looked like he just caught it. His footwork is incredible. Mignolet – at best – stands still, throws himself, makes a wonder save out for a corner and creates more pressure. Alisson just caught it.
He doesn’t have to make belter saves loads of the time because he is just so clever and good and 10 yards ahead of play. A superstar.

Trent: 7

Mad the way he had to mark Carl Lewis first half. Fucking grease lightning him, lad. Hop skip and a jump about 400 feet. Better second half. Kept the ball well.

Matip: 8

Is like being marked by a massive big lizard. Komodo Dragon at the back, tonguing it away. Did well today but fucking hell he doesn’t half love getting the wrong side of his man.

Virgil: 8

The greatest.

Andy Robbo: 7

Struggled today, I thought. Looked leggy, made some mad decisions with the ball, was screaming for Milner to come on left back at half time. Grafted though, in fairness, and had a big impact last 20.

Gini: 8

Was good to see him sitting and not have to leg it around all over the gaff. Had a boss game of ‘Where’s Gini’ second half. Popped up on 60 or whatever – there he is twatting that one right in the top bin. Love a corner routine, you know. Was then very impressive for 10 and bossed it.

Henderson: 7

Didn’t quite live up to his billing as the best attacking midfielder in Europe, but then if he scores that one its numbers our us and Ballon d’or por favor. Should do better with it, can’t be dealing with a side-foot finish, fucking lash it, lad!

Naby: 8

Won the ball back all day long there. Reckon 15 times. Confident on the ball, trying to get The Reds to play, some ball through for Mane first half as well. Sound that he’s sound, isn’t it?

Mo: 8

Probably should have been three penalties, really, as in he is fouled three times before the ref actually gives it. Does well to carry on twisting and turning, forcing the foul. Unlucky with the one on one.
I’ve been struck down with a cold there – having to do that thing where you sleep with your mouth open, propped up like a dying auld fella.
Woke up yesterday and my mouth was dryer than their pitch. Like a ravine. Never seen moisture. Had a few burnt-out cacti languishing on me tongue.

Firmino: 7

Unlucky with the big chance first half. Reckon he thinks he’s offside, otherwise he’s dancing round that prick and slotting. Kept picking the ball up and getting The Reds playing, didn’t he? Tremendous.

Sadio: 8

The only fella who could slip over on a pitch that was drier than The Lying Rag. Just kept slipping. Was mad. Imagine marking him though, falls over, you go to get the ball, somehow gets up, holds you off and keeps it. Again and again. Stronger than an ox.

Subs

Fabinho: 8 – Come on and pure butted their lad and then got off. Is right, lad.
Jimbo Milner: 9 – Mad, isn’t it? Wasn’t even meant to be on, comes on cos Fabinho pure butted some lad and knocked himself spark out, then runs the game and slots a pen. You can’t help but think this league is ours when shite like this keeps happening.
Joey: 8 – Well better than Degsi.
Zeus: 10 – Their lad, about to slot, free header back stick, head bigger than a bull, can’t miss the ball, Zeus pulls some strings, moves the ball by about six inches, lashes up a force field, and The Reds don’t concede. A latter day miracle
