carroll or aguero?

It's funny how everyone asks the question aguero or Carrol when we actually had no chance of signing Aguero from the onset....pretty silly.

Everyone? or just the soft lad that started this thread?

1. Benitez admitted he was offered Aguero but decided against it.

2. We were never in with a real chance of signing him this summer, but I bet we kicked the tires on a deal.

3. It shows how top quality players are within reach given the money we had available . With more patience we might have signed some.

We're on a roll these days with shite threads. If we had 220 k to spunk on wages and CL footy it would have been a genuine question.

I dont think Aguero was a possibility for us this summer but thats about the combined wages of Cole and Jovanavic, its too simplistic to say we couldnt offer the wages, our wage bill is insane and in no way offers value for the return

Behave. Champions League football and a shit ton of wages is why Aguero went to city. Lets not pretend otherwise.

Did you skip two?

We can sign top quality players, as evidenced by the Suarez deal. Instead we focused on massively overpriced decent Premiership players this summer.

Agreed, though that doesn't mean we could have got Aguero. Champions League football, a team with massive amounts of money, probably double the wages he would have got elsewhere.... Yeah we CAN buy top players, the issue is always regarding whether clubs with more to offer than us become involved, more often than not when that becomes the case we're gonna lose out.

I'm much rather we waited till the end of the season (or even a handful of games FFS!) before the 'I told you so' flood the forum.

Exactly, it was Swansea FFS, Carroll's first goal against the 'mighty' City was as a good as anything Aguero did last night.

Quite, two goals off the bench on your debut is quite a statement though, especially that last goal. I really don't want him to be good for them. Just like Silva, I like him too much.

For the record, I think if he gets a couple of goals and we hit some form, that Carroll we start banging them in. Although I'm not convinced of the result, I think Carroll will score on Saturday.

I don't have a problem with bigging up players from other teams, but give OUR players a chance before writing them off ffs.
*only Swansea * ? Regardless he is going to be a bigger hit than Tevez.
Yeah, only Swansea. I've always liked Aguero and I do think he'll be a hit, but:

* After one game against a newly promoted side, this is all a bit premature.

* They spent enough fucking money on him, he should be a hit, and so should Carroll. Making arguments about which one we should have bought is pointless, because we don't know whether Aguero was ever a viable option for us, certainly not once the like of Chelsea and City became involved (and he'd been linked on and off with Chelsea forever).

I misread two, my apologies!

Suarez was an exception to the rule, people didn't go near him because he was a controversial character and playing in a weaker league. Of course he'd done it in the world cup, looked fantastic. But he'd bit someone's ear, had a reputation as dirty and it was hard to justify spending £25 million on him. We took a gamble on Suarez and it paid of fantastically. There isn't another Suarez around every corner, to be honest, he was this whole soccernomics thing as it's best.

I hope you are not suggesting that we could have got rid of two players and paid Aguero their combined wages. That would be a recipe for disaster.

The facts are that we couldnt have signed Aquero because of his wages, and thats without taking into account whether he would have wanted to come to us anyway. Aquero not being here is a Rafa slipup not a Kenny one.

Thats exactly the reason why. It's well know we're trying to trim our wage bill at the moment and signing a player on £200,000 a week is exactly the way not to do that.

Fab will probably get offered an Owen type 'pay as you play' deal, I hope so anyway.
So at the end of the season we'll end up owing him around £3.75

Carroll every day of the week.

Aguero is a talented footballer but we've already got Suarez, two players whom are pretty much alike.

Carroll on the other hand will be a beast for us and will win us loads of points Aguero wouldn't be able too (unless of course he was stepping on Suarez' feet).

For this post to make any sense actually the initial question should've been:

Carroll or Dzeko?

Otherwise it's nothing but an odd form of a reversed hyperbole towards Carroll.

Aurelio has apperantly done his achilles again is out for a while. I think he's finished tbh.

Hmmm. *big caveat* I may be wrong here Neil, but I'm sure you've (and all of us) have been guilty of knee jerk responses regarding transfers before 🙂

Good player, I like him, but I think we're done with him - just too unreliable from the fitness standpoint. I think we're covered there now with Enrique in the team and Robinson/Johnson as the backups. Robinson should get minutes in the Carling Cup this season, and maybe a few games in the league, and should get better with experience (hopefully anyway) so we're probably in a good position at LB now.

Oh yes, and we still have Insua. Depressing that we haven't been able to shift out much of the deadwood. 2012 and the few expired contracts can't come soon enough!
