Charlie Adam

Peter, I meant my reply was based on that assumption.

As far as outcome goes - IMO it's too soon to say but, even if they stay up, I reckon Oyston's taken more of a risk over alienating Adam than he needed to take.

One game too late.............If Blackpool beat West ham tonight I reckon they'll be safe enough from relegation barring a complete capitulation. I reckon they would have sold Adam if they'd had 3 extra points on the board (we did our share by giving them 6).

Charlie Adam was Liverpool 'third choice' says Ian Holloway
By Eleanor Crooks, PA

Thursday, 3 February 2011SHARE PRINTEMAIL

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway has accused Liverpool of not wanting to sign Charlie Adam enough.

The highly-rated Scotland midfielder was linked with a move to Anfield throughout January but the clubs failed to agree a fee, while Tottenham were also unsuccessful with a late bid.

The Seasiders manager said: "I think his agent should be very careful what he says, if it's true.

"I've already had enough of this Charlie Adam thing. He's my captain and if you look at how well he played last night (against West Ham), for me there's no rush.

"The boy will go to a top club eventually but he has to go on the right footing, where they really want him, and to be perfectly honest I didn't feel that was the case.

"Charlie is someone I care about immensely and I believe he's improving. I believe he's a great professional and I believe he should walk into a club when they really want him.

"He shouldn't be third choice, they shouldn't be doing two other deals, Suarez and Carroll, and putting their energy into that and doing nothing for Charlie."

Holloway branded the events of transfer deadline day "total madness", but insisted his club had acted in the right way.

"The whole thing is sharks swimming trying to bite pieces off my players, and at the end of day Charlie will get what he deserves," Holloway added. "He's still only 25. This is his first season in the Premier League.

"I'm very proud of us. The chairman stood there resolute and said, 'That's not good enough'. I think I'll be proven in time that what Charlie will eventually go for will be a decent amount of money for this football club.

"He's so important to us and that was difficult for him. It's difficult for all our lads really when you actually find out what other people are paying. Some of the West Ham wages last night leave us in the shade by a zillion miles."

Adam again led by example in the 3-1 defeat to West Ham, scoring Blackpool's goal, and Holloway had nothing but praise for the midfielder's contribution.

He said: "I think Charlie was magnificent last night. His professionalism pleases me and astounds me and that's why he's still my captain."

As well as ensuring Adam would remain a Blackpool player until the end of the season, Holloway also brought in four players on transfer deadline day.
----------------

Holloway can fuck off.
We tried to sign Adam even before Carroll was on the radar.

Don't think we'll get him in the summer. He was willing to go to Tottenham when their bid was nearly accepted. He just wants to play for a bigger club, I say let them have him.
Let's get Defour or Martinez.

Ollie needs to shut the fuck up now.
He fought a good fight and held on to his captain for a few extra months.
I'm fucking sick those cunts beat us twice this season, cheers Roy.

I still don't really get the pursuit of Adam , I mean was he seen just as a cheapish decent squad addition or someone to be a prominent 1st team member. If the latter then I don't know why we didn't push just that little bit more. In saying that , if Blackpool were playing childish games then of course we have to walk away.

And Holloway doesn't really seem to be handling this well at all , he's coming across as "small time" as you can. Obviously he needs to care for his team but he's got to stop playing the "bullied victim" . Well done , they kept Adam , no need to keep going on about it , just draw the line under it for the moment

Is this the same Holloway who criticised his chairman for not taking Liverpool's calls all day on Monday?
Yes. Either he's trying to make the best of a bad job, or Oyston has torn him off a strip for those comments, or both.

For people who claim they don't do business in the media they struggle to shut the fuck up don't they. Holloway is starting to look pathetic now - Charlie Adam before Luis Suarez - yeh OK Wurzel.
they shouldn't be doing two other deals, Suarez and Carroll, and putting their energy into that and doing nothing for Charlie.

Here's a thought Ian, it's got absolutely fuck all to do with you.

He's been pissing me off all year the fucking mouthy farmer.

I want him out of this league. I thought he would be gone once the premier league fined them, but no he backtracked quickly on his 'Why would i continue, whats the point, whats the point, im not having anyone tell me who i can play' bollocks a couple of months ago.
Hes a jumped up fucking nobody who speaks far too much about our club and our business. NOT ONCE did we mention their club, or their player or our dealings in the press.

Oyston's made a king-sized f'ckup of things, knows he has and is trying to cover his tracks.

Adam is now a safe bet to leave in the summer IMO. I wouldn't bet the bank on Holloway sticking around either, not after this.
people say that, but whatever his intentions, this looks like a decent outcome for blackpool & oyston to me. if he keeps them up - and that's not wildly unlikely - then it's made them millions of pounds.

if i'd been him my attitude would've been to keep him at all costs and let him leave in the summer. if they lose a couple of million on his fee but ultimately stay up then who fucking cares?
I see the overall strategy, but I don't think Oyston's approach was either honest or effective. He now has to hope that Adam can rouse himself to remain at the same standard, failing which his gamble is a good deal more likely to fail also. Far better to tell Adam that's what he had decided, in which case he might have got the kind of final season out of him that we got out of Alonso.
i agree that he looks like a complete clown, and he's made a laughing stock of the club, but at the end of the day blackpool are clearly better off, imo, than they would be without adam and £10m in the bank. by accident or design, that's all that *really* matters.

oh, and not sure i understand the alonso parallel - didn't we get a great season out of alonso by massively pissing him off? haven't blackpool just massively pissed off charlie adam? fired him up, maybe?
This whole thing was a mistake; which I think was exacerbatred when Oyston saw how much we were willing to pay for Carroll...I do have some wories thyat the Carrol transfer is going to be a bit of a weight around our necks in future dealings with other clubs, but we'll have to see what happens.

From their pont of view, keeping Adam is clearly the best solution, you're spot on about that.

Ganing an extra 3 or 4 million is nothing comparedto keeping your best player and staving off relegation.

I suppose there's some possibility that Adam will so pissed of that it's going to reflect in his performances, but thats unlikely for a professional...then again, Torres is a good example...on the other hand Alonso was fired up because he had a point to prove, and maybe Adam is not going to be so motivated considering the outcome of that is just more money for Blackpool if he goes in the summer.

I still like Holloway and think that he is only trying to talk down Liverpool's interest in Adam and so talk up how much he is valued by Blackpool to get the most out of his player for the rest of the season.

I know that he could have been a lot classier in how he done it but I am sure he thought that he would have to do without him for the rest of the season. Having being pimped around a number of clubs by Oyston for an inflated price it is entirely understandable that Holloway would seek a way to reconnect Adam with Blackpool.
Yea, I would have a lot more problems with Oyston than Holloway.
Holloway has been very respectful of both our club and the king, which shouldn't be so easily forgotten.

I'm sure it's been said before, but if you value Charlie Adam as a 10-14M pound player Holloway then why aren't you paying him like one you mouthy fucking napoleon?

8K a week to plod around in a completely non-slimming tangerine shirt. Get fucked Holloway.

Fantastic wasn't it.

What position does he normally play in?

He certainly does have a magical left foot.

He would be deadly for set-pieces/corners.

It would be good to have more options than Gerrard's *waiting for the opposition's wall to stand still before smashing and hoping* technique.

Suarez, too, appears to have pretty good dead ball skills.

Paul Konchesky has a good left foot too.

Anyway, I still can't believe Blackpool didn't take the 11M on offer. When is Charlie Adam ever going to be worth that again?

If he keeps them in the prem he's worth three times that to them.

So if he goes in the summer for £5m his worth will be in the excess of £35m rather than £11 + relegation.

Exactly. It's for that exact same reason that if Newcastle get relegated then taking 35million for Carroll will actually be poor business for them as they will have lost more than they have gained.

Yes, that's objective.

They'd have stayed in the PL even if they'd sold him.
