Is his Rangers background really a factor here in Ryan's dislike (apart from the left foot) ?
Nope.

Were you not saying about how Carroll was thriving with Barton at Newcastle in another thread? It surprises me you don't like Charlie Adam, I can see him having a similar effect with Carroll for us.

Also McGeady looked pretty good against Ajax, his final product was average but he was beating their left back at will. I would take him on the cheap, he's like a lesser Robben.

Adam's a decent enough player, but we really should be aspiring for better and I can't help but feel that someone in Spain would represent much better value for money.

I'm of the opinion that adam is what we need in the middle of the park. yes, he is alonso 'lite' but we miss calm assured passing badly especially when the temptation is going to be there to hoof it up to carroll every five seconds. the question is if we get adam what happens to the rest of the midfield?

If we get Adam I still think we need a DM, which leaves question marks at the very least over Lucas. Ideally Ming and Gerrard can be our options in the attacking midfield position, while Adam can 'sit' alongside a defensive midfielder, which will certainly be better than what we've had to do for most of the season. The big question is whether Kenny buys a DM aswell, or whether he puts faith in Lucas and/or Spearing to continue to do a job.

I guess it's a question of priority and what's available. Adam is quality and is available for a reasonable enough fee, given his age, Blackpool's predicament, etc.. Are there any similar quality DM's available that would make such a difference to our side?

what formation would you like to see us play mark? Would gerrard and raul rotate? be a bit harsh on raul if so

I also think we would still need a defensive midfielder beside adam (for away games) so;

home

wide player----gerrard-----adam-----wide player

away

gerrard------adam----holding midfielder-----wide player

yes, I do think meireles will drop down the pecking order next year.

i don't think adam is really a defensive mid neil, unless you're saying we can do without one at home or you've converted gerrard?

I still dont want the fat, gappy, sweaty, gypo looking, deep fried mars eatin, ginger cunt.

But i ABSOLUTELY believe they would have been relegated without him. I think its insane to suggest they wouldnt. They are inches above the relegation even with all his goals an assists.
He's their jesus.

We've said for years we need to be less defensive at home, but there's no way many managers would play Adam and Gerrard in the middle of the park in a two. Adam lacks the engine and stamina, while Gerrard lacks the discipline. We've seen it down the years with Gerrard and a less than defensive-minded midfield partner, it rarely works, despite their quality.

Ideally it would be something like:

---------DM-------------Adam-------
----------------SG/RM----------------
--Kuyt/RW----Carroll----Suarez--

We need a defensive minded midfielder to come in regardless of who we sign.

I've not seen much of Adam so can't comment much on how good he is or isn't but what I want to know is whether he is good enough to start for us and excel week in week out?

If he is not, will we ever get him at his best? My impression from what I've read is that he is finally shining having arrived at a club he feels comfortable at, is trusted and given the responsibility of leading every week.

At Liverpool he might not get that. We have seen numerous examples of players (Parker for instance) arrive at top clubs and then just die a squad players death. Would that happen to Adam?

Very good point, Keni.

If we signed Adam and a DM we'd have 4 players(+Lucas) fighting for 3 starting spots. I feel even if he wouldn't be a guaranteed starter he, like all 4 of them, would play a lot of games so there mightn't be so much of a problem there.

Did Parker fail because he wasn't good enough though? Chelsea treated alot of players like shit, like City are now, they bought them essentially to stop other teams buying them and to have a huge depth in their squad, but as we've seen it doesn't always work out that way. Parker could have gone on to much more if he'd gone somewhere like United.

Adam's good enough, but it's hard to say whether he can start everyweek because we haven't seen him in a top side, like a lot of players, he could take to it like a fish to water or just become another squad player, that's the risk. He's quality though and could be just what we need in the middle of the park, someone to dictate the play.

I don't think Keni was saying Parker wasn't good enough, just that he struggled to get games in a competitive Chelsea squad. The same could happen Adam but if we signed him i'd expect to get a lot of games.

I suppose this could be quoted in several threads here;

"@bensmith_Times: Kenny Dalglish identifies Ashley Young, Gary Cahill, Matt Jarvis & Charlie Adam as #LFC targets"

Now that we have Carroll and Suarez it's a problem we would have to take head on because the option to play an attacking midfielder behind a lone striker is no longer there (well, unless Suarez moves to the wing).

i think suarez could easily move wide. He can beat a man and get to the by line. We just need to see if his crossing ability is top notch. Wouldn't surprise me if it was though

I would still love Adam here, although he's potentially a luxury.

We need that man to shield the back four and spray the ball about to the widemen.

Therefore width and a dm should the priorities for the club this summer. Suarez is showing he's more than happy to go out wide when needed but we need some full time quality out wide desperately.

If Adam is still available and wants to come after those slots are filled then fantastic.
The average age of our line up will be pretty much reduced as well? Would be great to have Meireles and a specialist LB in the side

haven't most of those players got only a little bit on their contract left? besides jarvis, where i dont' really know about his contract status

Cahill must have a fair while left as the mooted price tag is £18m.

Not really, until 2012 I think
