I'm fairly sure that's guesswork on that Paul guy's behalf.

He's read the reports today about Adam supposedly signing for us this weekend, and he's looking to be the first one to announce it's a done deal even though he probably knows bugger all.

Nobody was after Carrick cos he wasn't great, and still isn't.

And, as I've pointed out previously - United can afford to spend big money on beefing out the squad cos they've got world class players all over the park, whereas we don't.

I don't think Carrick's great myself but he has 4 league titles and a Champions League to his name since he joined whilst being ever present in Man U's midfield so he must be doing something right.

Hate to use this phrase but it's horses for courses, i think we need a ball playing midfielder more than Man U/Chelsea/Arsenal do hence our interest in Adam.

Barcelona, the best team in the world, and AC Milan, the newly crowned champions of Italy, are being linked with Jose Enrique. Does that make you think he's a better player? Doubtful ...
 
I know people hate when it's said that a signing is a "good squad player" but for me that is what adam is .He adds something a little different to the squad, especially with his set plays , and is probably willing to be a sub for certain games or periods during season . So if we get him 'cheap' enough , for 8 or so million then i think he could be worth it and play well enough , especially at home .

Carrick has not been 'ever present' in Utd's midfield. As such, your point about him winning trophies merely reinforces Ryan's point about them having a strong first team. Having that base enables them to top up the squad with players like Carrick.

I'm skeptical about Adam. If you discount his penalties, he scored two goals last season, and only one of them was in open play. He offers nothing defensively, so can't have been bought to help out (or replace) Lucas. In which case I can only assume he's been bought to replace the outgoing Ming, because he plays in a position which we are currently over-subscribed for.

Having said that, he has a nice highlight reel, and did manage to stand out in some very big games for Blackpool last season, so let's hope he can do the same for us.
 
Surprised he only got 2 goals from open play he scored or created 24 of their goals on the other hand, but that's just stats, trust what you think when you watch him on the pitch - I think he's a good player.
 
It'd be extremely refreshing to threaten from set-pieces again. Not since Gary Mac left have we actually bothered anyone on a regular basis with set-pieces.

Adam's FK's & corners combined with Carroll should add another dimension to our play alright.

What World Class players all over the park? You mean their talent stocked midfield of Carrick, Fletcher and Anderson? Park? Their 'World Class' players are Rooney, Giggs and Ferdinand, who else is there? They're a class team with a class manager who are the sum of their parts rather than a team of World Class players. They've got about as many 'World Class' players as we have.

Two things:

1 - Barcelona are the greatest team I've ever seen in my life. They could buy you for 20 fucking million and it wouldn't make a jot of difference. We, on the other hand have finished 7th and 6th in the last 2 seasons; ergo... We need good players, not plodders like Enrique.

2 - Let's see if Barcelona sign him.

jonjo - loan
aquilini - loan
lucas - holding midfielder
spearing - backup holding midfielder
gerrard - will increasingly less because of injuries
henderson - will play right midfield
meireles - may well leave
adam - back up for gerrard/meireles

we are not in the CL and that is huge. juve have managed to grab aguero and we managed to grab suarez but the majority of top players want CL so we are increasingly becoming a hard sell. we need good players and good players need CL football.

edit : Adam isnt mediocre; but this is a criminal and bullshit use of resources.
