Adam and gerrard defo staying

So who of : spearing, Ming, lucas and aqua are getting the boot?
Hmm...the best player on that list probably.

So it's definitely Ming.
Aquilani. Big wages, doesn't like it here & is desperate to go back to Italy.
I imagine we are very keen to get rid of Aquilani and any others going will depend on if we get any offers for him.

looks like it's meireles if contract talks have broken down.

Ming talks breaking down dont make sense.

He's said he's very happy here.
He's signed one season ago - if there was a clause of a payrise after a season, i don't see why we'd shirk it now

It just doesn't add up, really. Although the press keep running with it,so i guess there may be something in it.

We'd get close to £30m for Aqua and ming?

There is no clause, it was apparently said to him.

He signed his contract one year ago, he can like it or lump it. He was happy to sign last year, he can work on that contract for a while longer yet.

Damn straight.

I like the player, but he shits out of tackles & is clearly greedy. He can fuck off if he's gonna be like that.

the contract breakdowns probably make sense, i can see him asking for a decent wage rise, which he probably deserves to be fair, but i doubt John Henry would be too keen to give a hefty fee to a 29 year old

I'm not sure he really does deserve it to be honest.

Given the mess the club was in last year who could predict that, if we couldn't afford more then, we would be able to afford more now? And if you were negotiating a contract with a club in that position, would you so willingly take someone's word for that? You'd make sure it was in writing surely?

Last season was a disaster. Okay, he didn't play badly compared to some but ultimately we didn't win anything and didn't qualify for Europe. That is a failure. Hardly a circumstance where players should feel entitled to pay rises.

All very iffy, this (if true). I wonder if someone's made him a better offer and he's trying to manufacture a "reason" to leave.

Do we know what he wants? If it's something like 75-80k, which we seemingly hand out to just about anybody, I don't see the problem.

He's got two seasons left before he hits 30 and is a good player. That's probably his market rate in England.

If Henderson, for example, really has been given a 60k per week contract, I can understand his frustration.

But if he's made a deal that undervalues him - tough shit.

We can't revisit bad transfer deals. Fuck him.

I think some people are a little confused about our standing in world football right now. As Ryan pointed out we did finish 7th and 6th last few seasons. We were knocked out of Europe early last season and failed to qualify for the shitty European competition this time round.
Stop comparing us to Barcelona/ac Milan Chelsea and mancs and be real with yourselves. It's a massive climb back up to the top and we now have added competition to get there in the prem let alone Europe.
So if we have to buy a few plodders to fatten our squad up then so be it.
I firmly believe we are buying to make a push up the table this season as we are probably not ready for a title push as jumpin from 6th to first is pretty much unheard of in the prem.

Heh, well that's one stance we could take.

I don't see the point though. For the sake of an extra 15-20k a week, wouldn't it be better to a) keep a good player and b) avoid getting a reputation for reneging on deals?

I've not really been following this in the press, but I understand that he came to us on less money than he was on at Porto and we promised to increase that if he performed well?

If true, he's not being greedy... he's delivered his end of the bargain and deserves what he was promised.

i think it does add up, personally. if the club was banking on £10m+ from aquilani to partly finance a heavy round of spending, then they need to get it from somewhere else if he can't be sold, and meireles is the obvious alternative in terms of where he plays and the money he'd bring in. i mean, i'd rather keep meireles of the 2, but he's not so brilliant that aquilani couldn't be a reasonable replacement.

it'd be pretty ruthless, but i can see the logic.

We're similarly place to Juventus, who just signed Aguero.

He only signed a year ago though, so why did he agree to those terms?
because of an understanding that they'd be improved if he perfromed well......???

...except for the weather.

66 - Raul Meireles created 66 goalscoring chances for Liverpool in 2010-11, the same amount as Luka Modric at Spurs.

Meireles created a chance every 38.5 minutes & Modric every 42 minutes.

Charlie Adam made 72 chances but created a chance every 42 minutes too (played more minutes than Modric or Meireles)

40-50% of Adam/Meireles chances created in open play whilst 80% of Modric are chances created in open play.

Great signing.
Yeah we've done really well to capture his signing ahead of all the other top 4 clubs that were chasing him.
That has nothing to do with it.

Tell me this, who was after Carrick before United signed him? Or Valencia? Or Hernandez? and so on.
Nobody was after Carrick cos he wasn't great, and still isn't.

And, as I've pointed out previously - United can afford to spend big money on beefing out the squad cos they've got world class players all over the park, whereas we don't.
I don't think Carrick's great myself but he has 4 league titles and a Champions League to his name since he joined whilst being ever present in Man U's midfield so he must be doing something right.

Hate to use this phrase but it's horses for courses, i think we need a ball playing midfielder more than Man U/Chelsea/Arsenal do hence our interest in Adam.
Carrick has not been 'ever present' in Utd's midfield. As such, your point about him winning trophies merely reinforces Ryan's point about them having a strong first team. Having that base enables them to top up the squad with players like Carrick.

I'm skeptical about Adam. If you discount his penalties, he scored two goals last season, and only one of them was in open play. He offers nothing defensively, so can't have been bought to help out (or replace) Lucas. In which case I can only assume he's been bought to replace the outgoing Ming, because he plays in a position which we are currently over-subscribed for.

Having said that, he has a nice highlight reel, and did manage to stand out in some very big games for Blackpool last season, so let's hope he can do the same for us.

2006–07: 52 appearances
2007-08: 49 appearances
2008-09: 43 appearances
2009:10: 44 appearances
2010:11: 43 appearances

"Squad player" Michael Carrick, are you sure ???

You don't necessarily need world class talent all over the pitch.

As Mark1975 pointed out, Man U have quite a few players that aren't world class, but they still perform well, serve a purpose and allow the world class talent to express themselves.
with those appearance records how can carrick only have 3 title medals?? 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011.
It is 4 then, my bad  yeah that's right, Man U won 3 in a row before Chelsea won it again, then Man U won it last season.

Barcelona, the best team in the world, and AC Milan, the newly crowned champions of Italy, are being linked with Jose Enrique. Does that make you think he's a better player? Doubtful ...
Two things:

1 - Barcelona are the greatest team I've ever seen in my life. They could buy you for 20 fucking million and it wouldn't make a jot of difference. We, on the other hand have finished 7th and 6th in the last 2 seasons; ergo... We need good players, not plodders like Enrique.

2 - Let's see if Barcelona sign him.
1 - Funnily enough, he'll probably start at LB for them (he's better than Maxi and Abidal seems to be Pep's preference ahead of Puyol, when healthy) and within a year, Spain! 😉

2 - I don't care of they sign him - I was just using it as a point that big teams get linked to players you/me/____ (poster at SCM or any footy board) think are shit. It doesn't mean anything. I have seen Adam play only a few times (the 2 games against us and a few others) and it seems he's a decent player. I don't mind if we sign him for the CM rotation - but I wouldn't base my happiness with the signing (currently = 'meh') on what teams are linked with him (another example: I - and most people on the site I think - was happy we were getting Suarez, a player no top 4 team was linked with as far as I remember)

Re: Re: Charlie Adam
