Thankfully ive just read that we don't want to be in a bidding war and will be buying some unheard of Korean from Celtic instead.... marvellous.

We should buy him anyway.......would be a marketing coup!!

ALEX McLeish is set to offer £8m in a bid to make Charlie Adam his first signing for Aston Villa ... and he may follow that up with an attempt to grab DJ Campbell too.

McLeish, a controversial choice at Villa Park and wary he must start next season with good results, reckons 25-year-old Adam is just the player to rejuvenate his new club’s fortunes.

McLeish gave Adam his Rangers debut in 2003 as well as his international bow for Scotland four years later, and he has remained close to the midfielder.

He made an unsuccessful offer to sign the Pool skipper in January, when he was in charge at Birmingham.

Liverpool continue to be heavily linked with Adam, and Pool chairman Karl Oyston says “preliminary talks” have taken place.

However, there have been no developments in the last few days and Adam’s representatives have yet to talk to any clubs.

Pool secretary Matt Williams said: “The chairman deals with the sale of players but as far as I’m aware no bids have been made for Charlie.

“We’ve had bits of conversations apparently about one or two players but there has been nothing formal.”

“Basically, he is still our player until anyone tells us different.”

McLeish will have cash to spend when Ashley Young completes his £16m move to Manchester United and needs to beef up the Villa midfield after the exit of Nigel Reo-Coker. Adam appears to be his No.1 target.

McLeish is also aware about DJ Campbell’s availability. The 29-year-old has a £1.25m buy-out clause in his contract and the Villa manager, keen for more options up front, is reported to be interested in a striker who bagged 13 goals in the top flight last term.

Few posters on RAWK saying we're going to walk away from the Adam deal if a fee hasn't been agreed by the end of today. No surprises.

Dragged on too long this.

Its from that Paul lad..

It's a bit mad though that we were prepared to pay £16m for Henderson with no complaints but we're walking away from this, unless as rumoured, Blackpool are being complete cocks.

Isn't this more to do with the complication of the transfer itself, if I recall, Adam gets a cut, so does Holloway, Rangers too and so Blackpool are trying to get as much as possible

You can prove anything with statistics. 40 percent of people know that.

As it happens I think Raul is a great player but not right for us....and that's probably bollocks.

Next week for the Adam deal to be done apparently.

Taarabt to PSG for £10mil as well.

Where'd you hear that at mate?

The Adam deal was supposed to be done weeks ago so whatever the latest rumour is, it'll have to be taken with a pinch of salt as they say.

Liverpool plotting £24m double swoop

Liverpool expect to secure the signing of Charlie Adam in the next 48 hours, with Stewart Downing also moving to Anfield in deals totalling about £24 million.
Damien Comolli, the Liverpool director of football, was in talks with Karl Oyston, the Blackpool owner, yesterday to conclude a deal for Adam. Blackpool have been holding out for £10 million for the outstanding player during their relegation from the Barclays Premier League last season, but Liverpool expect to pay about £8 million plus add-ons.
Kenny Dalglish, the Liverpool manager, is an admirer of Adam and despite interest from Aston Villa in the Scotland international, the player has his heart set on a move to Merseyside.
To Adam’s dismay, a £7 million bid from Liverpool was rejected in a frantic end to the January transfer window, but relegation to the npower Championship has forced Blackpool to accept that the player will leave two years after he joined from Rangers for £500,000. Liverpool hope to confirm the move this weekend.
Dalglish will have to work out how to accommodate a growing number of midfield players in his squad, with Liverpool hoping to secure Downing’s signature in the next few days. The England winger has said that he will not extend a contract that has two years left to run with the Midlands club. Liverpool may have to pay £16 million for Downing, giving Villa a profit on a player signed from Middlesbrough for £12 million in 2009.
The arrival of Downing and Adam, after the signing of Jordan Henderson from Sunderland, will give Dalglish many options in midfield. Steven Gerrard is expected to be fit for the start of next season, while Jay Spearing, Lucas Leiva and Raul Meireles will also have high hopes of featuring.
One solution would be to sanction the transfer of Meireles, despite an impressive opening season in the Premier League. Juventus are interested and are willing to offer Felipe Melo in a part-exchange deal, but Liverpool are thought to want cash for the 28-year-old bought from Porto for £11.5 million in August.

just saw that on twatter but couldnt find a decent rumour, cheers
id be okay with the prices quoted to be honest, well apart from the one for raul, surely we could get 15 mill?

It's just been posted on RAWK.

To be honest £24 million doesn't sound too bad for the two. Not when Adam was priced at £10m-£12m about a week ago, and Downing around £20 million.

I really like Adam, classy ball player in my view. Less convinced by Downing but i can see why Kenny would want him.

Midfielder Felipe Melo is unhappy at reports that Juventus have offered him as part of a bid to sign Liverpool's Raul Meireles.

The Anfield club have already landed Jordan Henderson this summer and are expected to complete a deal for Blackpool captain Charlie Adam.

Less than a year after his £10million arrival from Porto, Meireles could consequently be sacrificed in order to make room in Kenny Dalglish's squad.

Liverpool are said to have told Juventus that they can have the Portugal playmaker for £13m, and the Italian club are understood to be prepared to offer Melo and cash.

The defensively-minded Brazilian has been linked with Arsenal in the past, but he is disappointed at suggestions he could be a makeweight in any Meireles move.

"Let us say that Juve are not respecting me, or at least that's the impression I get," he is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.

"I'm not just anyone. I'm not a bargaining chip to be used."

I'm prepared to give Downing the benefit of the doubt, by all accounts he's improved year on year & as the team improves so does he, I've not seen enough of him to judge & I don't believe in stats alone

The way it stands, the core of our team for years to come is gonna be British, & unfortunately that means we will overpay. I'd say a team of mostly British players tends to perform as a team slightly better than they should in this league though, so there's some clear benefit.

Adam doesn't have age on his side but will help control tempo & shouldn't need long to bed in, so its an understandable buy.

My view isn't based on them stats mate, it's based on watching Adam several times last season.

In Adam, i see a classy ball playing midfielder which we lack. In the modern game pace and power can be seen as the be all and end all but in Adam, there's a player of god given ability on the ball without being a powerhouse midfielder with bundles of pace and stamina.

A rare bred if you like and someone who i think will surprise a lot of people next season if he joins us. Including some of his own supporters who question him(which i can understand in fairness).
