Adam has the potential to be an Alonso, even a Molby for us (yes he's got the figure). His eye for a pass is second to none, and we all know he has just about the best set-piece delivery in the league. He won't be intimidated about gracing Anfield, and I think he's going to go down as a terrific signing by the end of next season. He's another leader too, something that is hugely important. Double figures in goals and assists next season. You heard it here first.
The only way he'll get into double figures for goals is if he takes all of our penalties. Which I doubt he will.

I honestly wish I could be as optimistic about his signing as you but I really can't be at this stage. In him and Carroll we have two players who looked great playing in poor teams and have yet to prove they belong in a top four team. Still, at least with Adam we didn't pay twice what he was worth. Here's hoping your optimism is rewarded.
Isnt it about time we adopted the special teams approach in football.
Bring Adam and Carroll on for corners.

Haha.

I suspect though that Buddha's recalling the vital part Scottish players played in our glory days. Our best ever defender (Jocky), arguably our best ever midfielder and IMO our best ever skipper (Souness) and a certain Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish are cases in point.
Absolutely, JJ. I always loved the contribution of our great scots.
I'd add a certain Steve Nicol to that distinguished list. He may not be just at the same level of this great trio, but he's very close.
That's an excellent shout, jimmy. Stevie Nicol is IMO second only to Stevie G as our best ever all-rounder and I'd have him in the All-Time XI at LB.
Funny isnt it. For a nation thats been in the doldrums for so long its amazing to think that if you put together our best ever 11 you would have three or four Jocks in it.

------------------------------------------Clemence----------------------------------------
Kennedy-----------------Hansen-------------------------Lawrenson------------------Nicol

Beardsley---------------------------------------------------------------------------Barnes

Some of our older readers probably would disagree re-Beardsley but i think you couldnt argue about the Jocks.
Beardo was one of our best ever players (should have finished his career with us IMO) and would certainly be in my squad, but IMO he'd be wasted out wide. I'd have him on the bench and play Cally wide right. My other changes would be Reina in goal (I do not have the same liking for him as I did for Clem, but I think he's the better keeper) and Babbel at RB.

Babbel was great.

If Babel had of got a run of games though, he would have replaced Barnes in that team.

I'm loving the fact that Kenny picked him up.

Also being reported fee is closer to 8.5mil but with none of our players going to Blackpool

Charlie Adam is being labelled Liverpool's new Jan Molby. Is he? In a word, no.

It's understandable why a few pundits are saying so. Both are carrying what might politely be described as some timber. But the difference is that Adam has a turn of pace which Molby didn't, and it is the reason he has excelled in the hectic, fit-as-a-butcher's-dog modern-day Premier League.

In Molby's day the game was slower. Great player though he was, he had the time and the space to take a good look before zipping a 60-yard pass to John Barnes.

He is also in possession of what must be, David Silva aside, one of the best left foots in the Premier League. If Liverpool land Stewart Downing from Aston Villa as well, they will rip opponents to shreds on the left.

I've watched Adam since he first arrived at Blackpool on loan two-and-a-half years ago. Astonishingly he was damaged goods back then. Rangers could not wait to get rid, but no one wanted him. Blackpool only stepped in because then manager Simon Grayson had just quit, the club had lost seven loan players and they desperately needed reinforcements.

They took a gamble on Adam which seemed to have backfired when the Scot became the first Blackpool player sent off on his debut since the 1970s for stamping on an opponent. But he soon won the fans over by scoring the winner against arch-rivals Preston and the club broke the bank – by their standards – when they spent a record £500,000 to sign Adam on a permanent basis in the summer. Barnsley were the only other club to express a vague interest; Adam was still an outcast.

He has gone from zero to hero since, almost single-handedly dragging Blackpool to the Premier League (19 goals from the centre of midfield), then coming within a whisker of keeping them there.

There's an argument that he excels at being a big fish in a small pond, the reason he has been outstanding at Blackpool but failed at Rangers. If that is the case, Liverpool might have a nasty shock in store.

But I don't think so. Adam will succeed. He is a class act, 25-years-old and entering the best years of his career. Playing alongside the likes of world class stars like Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez can only improve his game.

Aware a move to a top-flight club would happen this summer, Adam has been preparing for the moment. He has spent the close-season not on the beach but in the boxing ring, working with a Blackpool middleweight champion to ensure he's in perfect nick for the new season.

The last midfielder to join Liverpool from Blackpool, in 1967, was a promising young lad by the name of Emlyn Hughes. Adam might not be in that class, but he isn't far behind.

Heh - he can piss right off.

Fair to say that I haven't watched as much of Adam as he has but I've seen enough of him to know that no way in hell is he better than Big Jan. Molby was class on a level that transcends eras and playing styles. I think Adam will be very good for us - he provides qualities that we're missing - but more skill than Molby? He should stop embarassing himself.

I think it's fair to say I'd swap ANYONE in our current squad for a Molby, the same can't be said for Adam.

It's a bit disrespectful that article, sometimes you've just got to appreciate how great a player was and leave it at that.

He was a great player but IMO overrated by some. He only played over 26 league games in a season twice in his LFC career, he wasn't as pivotal as midfielders such as Souness, Kennedy, McDermott, Whelan, Gerrard, etc. He was superb to watch and a real character but there are a few players in the current squad I'd pick before Jan; Gerrard, Suarez, Carra, Reina etc.

Am I missing something? Where did he say that Adam was better? He seemed to be commenting on the different eras more than anything. He did mention that Adam is quicker than Jan, but that kind of goes without saying.

was molby better than alonso?
IMO Alonso might just shade it but both great players and I'd totally understand someone suggesting that Molby was the btter of the two.

I'd rate them very similarly. Both were/are superb passers of the ball. Molby scored more often (partly, though not exclusively, because he took the pens) but Alonso's defensive covering was a fair bit better. Molby got picked as sweeper sometimes, maybe because he was a big lad, but I never once saw him have a good game in that position because he wasn't the sort to throw his weight about - except when the opposition kicked him, which was usually a serious mistake (e.g.when Peter Reid did it in the first Merseyside Cup Final, Molby got mad and took control in midfield, and we ended up bossing the game).

Its hard not to like the attitude Adam showed over the summer by pushing himself to become fitter. It bodes well for him and us.

I'm looking forward to seeing him play.

Well, without going into the innuendo Del, he says that Adam is equal in skill to Jan. I think he tries to say that Adam does what Jan does in a far tougher environment but, bottom line IMO, he's not close to Molby.

While I'm probably not of the same opinion as Pesam that he was overrated I do agree with his other comment. I was actually going to question the idea that I'd swap him for anyone in the squad. I'd keep Stevie ahead of almost anyone in history; Suarez is as important as Molby would be if not more so; Reina - you just have to look around at clubs like Arsenal or the mancs to see how important it is to have a top keeper.

I personally would have Jan a little in front of Xabi but it would be awfully close.
