Chelsea target Young?

No direct quotes here, but I wouldn't be surprised.....

Aston Villa's Ashley Young is among new Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti's top targets, skysports.com understands.

A host of high-profile names have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge since the arrival of Ancelotti, but Young is believed to be high on the Italian's agenda.

Young enjoyed another fantastic season for Villa last term, being named in the PFA team for a second successive year and also scooping the Young Player of the Year award.

Chelsea have held a long-term interest in Young and they see him as a key addition to their squad as they look to rebuild their ageing side.

Guus Hiddink is thought to have recommended Chelsea move for Young as the club look to bring in more English talent.

Young has established himself as one of the most exciting players in the Premier League since bursting onto the scene at Watford and he would fit into Chelsea's plans of trying to introduce a brand of more attractive attacking football at Stamford Bridge.

Aston Villa chief Martin O'Neill is a big fan of Young and would be loath to lose the England international, having already seen Gareth Barry leave Villa Park this summer.

However, Villa could find it hard to resist a big money offer for Young, with Chelsea hoping to lure him away with the prospect of UEFA Champions League football.

Excellent. O'neil will be close to breakdown and po-go-ing all over his office.

Yeah, it's always 'excellent news' when one of our main rivals secures a top player

Bellend
I must have missed the 'secures' bit, tough guy.

Regardless, he's not a top player and I like seeing O'neil in meltdown.

Hope this helps.

Helps what? To cement my opinion of you as a bellend?

Yeah, I suppose

You really should be on a stage somewhere instead of sitting at your computer all day posting angst ridden insults.

Are you having a bad time at the moment? Still confused about your sexuality?

Bless.

It would be a bad move for him in my opinion. He won't get as many games and it could halt his development.
At Villa he is an automatic selection and he should stay there for another season to get experience and games under his belt.

why wouldn't young get games at chelsea? all he has to do is push his way past a decidedly average malouda.

Cole will come back and claim his place there.

He won't be an automatic starter though. Malouda has picked up his form and Zhirkov was signed for big money. They also have Joe Cole for the other wing. Who is to say they won't sign Kaka, who will take an automatic position in midfield as would Lampard and Essien. That leaves one position left fighting for which would be rotated between a few players.

I think Young would be better off staying at Villa for another season.

They won't sign Kaka. Why would Kaka go to such small club like Chelsea?? Plus they have not sign Zhirkov yet.

And why would Young not go to Chelsea? Better wage, Champions League football and top class players all around him. He will improve, just the same as if he join us.

we should bid for young.
We should but we don't have that much money. Plus he's going for 20mil +. We can get Silva for less than that.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind Young here at all, he's a very good player who deserves to be playing CL football, but given the price Villa paid (£15m?) they're bound to want at leas £22-24M for him and I don't think he's worth that.

Chelsea would be a risky move though, as others have said Zhirkov, Malouda and Joe Cole present strong competition, whereas he'd walk into out first eleven over Babel and Riera.

I think so too. He needs to get games to continue his progress. Spells in and out of the Chelsea first team won't help that.

I like Young but think many here over rate him.

Villa paid about 11m for him, no?

9.5m?

Heh, I thought it was more.

According to Wiki:

On 18 January 2007, Aston Villa had an £8 million offer (rising to £9.75 million with add-ons), accepted

Still think Villa would demand nothing short of £20M

ashley young - 7 league goal (started virtually every game)
riera - 3 league goals
babel - 3 league goals (only started 6 games)

I'm not saying he isn't a talent but he isn't as good as some are making out given he is a fixture in the villa side.

I'm devastated

neil, its not just the goals he scores, its his constant harrassing of his fullback that pulls out the cb, its his dynamic crossing ability, its his blinding pace, and the fact that he will score goals from the wing spot. He had a terrific first half this past year, and the year before his return was great(7 g 17 a). But in the second half of this past season Villa fell apart, and he suffered from that, not only that but teams committed both there right back and there right mid to stopping him. IF you stopped Ashley Young you stopped Aston Villa, he is definately worth the money and would blossom into the upper tier. So we could be proud to have Gerrard, Torres, and Young.

as hard as it is to admit we will get outbid every time on established superstars. the only chance we have is on emerging ones. young is a clear example, the rich teams are chasing what they think is proven quality and will outbid us every time hence we need to buy emerging.

chelsea don't need young and i'm sure if we were in for him we'd get him for c20 million

players like young, silva, srna, kuba all fit that description of emerging - not like the maybes we've bought like lucas, gonzalez, or we've seen the best and it's not good enough like pennant and riera.

if we spent 30 million this summer on young and johnson/srna most of us would look back and c it as a good summer.

Like Babel?

the thing that went wrong with babel is that we didn't know where to play him. but yea players like babel.

I do think we have money to bid for Young or Silva and ideally we should be focusing our efforts on improving the first team squad. Try to sign one of Silva/ Young. If we have any money left then focus on back up center halves or right back and kids for the reserve squad.
