Valentino Lazaro - Inter (€22m)

[article]Valentino Lazaro is now officially an Inter player. The Austrian joins the Nerazzurri from Hertha Berlin, signing a contract up until 30 June 2023.

Valentino is certainly not one to wait around, and at the age of 23, he already has huge ambitions for the future. Ever since he was a child, born and raised in Graz, he’s been full of life. Forever ringing his friends’ doorbells, running down the street and playing right up until there wasn’t enough light to see the ball. He boasts just one passion – football. He’s still inspired by his childhood heroes from the past, looking to imitate the skills of Brazilians from the Seleçao – whether that be dribbling, free-kicks or passing.

Valentino Lazaro initially came through the youth ranks at Salzburg, where he also made his debut in the Austrian league. He spent five seasons at the club, four of which included a successive streak of league titles and domestic cups. Lazaro knows how to win. He plays mostly on the right flank but is versatile and used to playing in different roles. Like many greats of the game, he developed at a young age by playing on the streets, giving him a great base in terms of skill and tactical selflessness. Those courtyards and tight spaces proved to be the perfect setting in helping him to grow as a player.

During two campaigns at Hertha Berlin, he got to know the Bundesliga and made 31 appearances last season, scoring three and assisting seven goals. Lazaro’s unpredictability also saw him become a part of the Austria set-up and he has 12 international caps and one goal. Now, he’s set to start at Inter with a real sense of enthusiasm. From all of the Nerazzurri family, #WelcomeValentino![/article]

Damien Johnson - Blackburn (First Team Technical Coach, Head of Player Development)

[article]Rovers are pleased to announce that Under-23s head coach Damien Johnson has been promoted to the role of first team technical coach and head of player development.

Johnson, who came through Rovers’ youth ranks and went on to make over 80 appearances in blue-and-white between 1997 and 2002, returned to the club as an Academy coach in April 2015.

The former midfielder moved up to the Senior Training Centre that summer to take charge of the Under-21s and guided the development squad to the Premier League 2 Division 2 title in 2017-18.

Last season, Johnson steered Rovers Under-23s to a fifth-place finish in the PL2 top flight, as well as securing the Lancashire FA Senior Cup for the first time since 2011 courtesy of a 2-0 victory over local rivals Burnley in the final.

The 40-year-old has also played a pivotal role in the development of a number of Rovers’ rising stars in recent years and will continue to do so in his new role.

David Raya, Ryan Nyambe, Lewis Travis and Scott Wharton have all made the successful step up to first team football under Johnson’s watch, whilst fellow Academy graduates Dan Butterworth, John Buckley, Joe Grayson and Tyler Magloire all made their senior debuts for the club last season.

The former Northern Ireland international, who earned 56 caps for his country, is looking forward to this new chapter in his coaching career, with the 2019-20 Championship campaign now just over a month away.

"I'm delighted, it's a fantastic opportunity for me to take on the role,” said Johnson.

"When I was asked about stepping up, it was a chance I just couldn't turn down.

"It was a very tough decision to leave the Under-23s. I've said before that it's a job I've really enjoyed, working with the likes of Stuart Jones, Tony Carss and the rest of the staff at the Academy.

"Tony (Mowbray) and I spoke at length about the role and what's needed, and it was something that really excited me. To work with the gaffer, who is so supportive, is a fantastic opportunity.

"It's a club that has played a huge part in my career, both as a player and a manager, and gave me my first opportunity in first team football.

"It's vitally important to continue the pathway for players from Under-23s football to the first team, which is something we've done a lot over the years.

"The players need to make that transition from development squad football to the first team and that's the challenge for them."[/article]

Stefano Sensi - Inter Milan (loan for €5m with option to buy for €25m)

[article]Stefano Sensi is officially a new Inter player. The Italian midfielder has joined the Nerazzurri on loan with a clause to make the switch permanent.

The 23-year-old midfielder has spent most of his life around football. He was 13 when he left his hometown of Urbino to move to the Rimini youth set-up. As it is for everyone, it was tough to leave home at a young age but perseverance is one of Stefano Sensi’s best traits. It allowed him to pave his way and take his place in the upper echelons of the game, overcoming hurdle after hurdle while following his dream.

Sensi moved to Cesena where he continued to play youth football before a loan at Lega Pro side San Marino where he was given the captain’s armband at just 18. There, he made 61 appearances and scored ten goals, often playing in attacking midfield. That was followed by a season in the first team at Cesena before Sassuolo signed him in 2016. In three seasons there, he made 68 appearances and scored five goals.

Sensi has shown himself to be someone who loves team play and he takes on responsibility. His vision and intelligence on the pitch previously earned him the nickname of ‘maestro’.

He has two Italy caps to his name and one international goal. An exciting new adventure now awaits him in an Inter shirt, best of luck to him from all the Nerazzurri supporters. #WelcomeStefano!

Gabriel will shortly join up with his new team mates for pre-season training.[/article]

Tomas Kalas - Bristol City (£8m)

[article]City have secured the permanent return of last season’s loan star Tomas Kalas for a club-record fee.

The 26-year-old has penned a four-year contract in BS3 after City beat off competition from several clubs for his signature.

Kalas was on loan at Ashton Gate from Chelsea during the 2018/19 season and instantly became a popular and dominant figure at the heart of City’s defence.

The Czech Republic international made 41 appearances in City colours, contributing to 11 clean sheets.

Kalas becomes the seventh signing this summer and City Chief Executive Mark Ashton said: “We are thrilled Tomas has committed his future to Bristol City for a club-record fee and I know it is a signing which City supporters have been eagerly hoping for.

“A player of Tomas’ stature naturally attracts a lot of interest but we worked hard to secure his services which I believe shows a lot about our ambition. All credit as well to Chelsea who have been excellent to deal with regarding Jay (Dasilva) and now Tomas.”

Head Coach Lee Johnson said: “We saw last season the qualities he brings and Tomas is exactly the type of player we want to build our team around. Not only is he a fantastic footballer but someone with a winning mentality.

“A lot of credit should go to Mark Ashton, Jon Lansdown and the City Board for the hard work in making this happen.”

After signing for Chelsea in 2010 Kalas rejoined former side Sigma Olomouc on loan before spending two seasons at Vitesse Arnhem. He spent the first of two loan spells at FC Cologne before he was recalled to his parent club and made his Chelsea debut in a 2-0 win against Arsenal in October 2013.

Kalas would return to the German club on loan though, before having a temporary spell at Middlesbrough, helping the Smoggies reach the Premier League. He then spent the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons with Fulham, whom he also helped win promotion to the top flight, before his loan spell in BS3.

Colin Bell - Huddersfield (Assistant Head Coach)

[article]Huddersfield Town has today appointed Colin Bell to the role of Assistant Head Coach.

The Leicester-born 57-year-old brings vast experience from 30 years of coaching to Jan Siewert’s backroom staff.

Colin was a defender in his playing days but has made his career as a successful coach in Germany after hanging up his boots.

He has worked in the men’s game in Germany for 23 years, enjoying success as Head Coach of TuS Koblenz over a seven-year period before becoming Assistant Head Coach at 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga; a role he held from 1996 to 1999.

Colin left to lead one of Germany’s biggest clubs, Dynamo Dresden, as Head Coach for the 1999/00 season before steering FSV Mainz 05 II to the main rounds of the domestic cup for four successive years; a new record in the country for a second team.

He then returned to Koblenz to revolutionise the Club’s Academy setup, whilst still serving as Assistant Head Coach, from 2006 to 2011.

Bell then led FFC Frankfurt as they won the Women’s Champions League in 2005 following a domestic cup win the previous year, earning him further high-profile jobs in the Women’s game.

The first ever Englishman to complete his coaching badges in Germany, Colin was named in the 10-person shortlist for FIFA Women’s World Coach of the Year for his achievements at Frankfurt.

He joins the Terriers from his post as Head Coach of the Republic of Ireland’s women’s team, which he has held since 2017.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach Jan Siewert explained:

“I’m so happy to be able to welcome Colin to Huddersfield today.

“He has a fantastic reputation in Germany as a top-quality coach, that he’s really earned. He’s been a Head Coach, a supporting coach and the head of Academies at very high levels and can offer us so much.

“We first met when he was at TuS Koblenz and he was a big help to me early in my coaching career. We’ve kept in touch ever since and I’m delighted he has accepted the offer to come and help us here at Huddersfield Town.

“Not only is he a great coach, but he will also be great around the players on a day-to-day basis.

“I’m really excited to have him with us at PPG Canalside today.”[/article]

Sandro Ramirez - Real Valladolid (loan)

[article]Real Valladolid have completed the season-long loan signing of out-of-favour striker Sandro Ramirez from Everton, it has been confirmed.

The striker has been badly out of form since leaving Malaga in the summer of 2017, netting just once in 60 appearances in all competitions - for Everton against Atalanta in November 2017.

The former Barcelona forward – who scored 14 goals in 30 La Liga appearances in the 2016/17 season for Malaga after joining from the Blaugrana – before joining the Toffees in a €6m move.

Sandro failed to find the net in 26 appearances during a loan stint with Real Sociedad last campaign while he also did not register in front of goal in 18 Sevilla outings prior to that.

Erik Durm - Eintracht Frankfurt (free transfer)

Dominik Kohr - Eintracht Frankfurt (reportedly €10m)

Thiago Mendes - Lyon (€26.5m plus add ons up to €4.5m)

Luke Freeman - Sheff Utd (reportedly £5m)

[article]Chris Wilder has made a decisive first move in the summer transfer window, with the signing of one of the Championship's top performers in recent seasons.

Luke Freeman arrives at Bramall Lane on a three-year deal, with the Blades paying QPR an undisclosed club record fee for the 27-year-old midfielder.

Freeman scored eight goals in 48 appearances for the R's last term and netted against United when the two teams met at Bramall Lane in February 2018.

The Dartford-born operator began his career at Gillingham, prior to moving to Arsenal as a teenager. He featured heavily for both the Gunners second string and U18s as he progressed through the ranks in North London.

Loan spells at Yeovil Town and Stevenage furthered Freeman's development, before he completed a permanent switch to the latter in January 2012, where he went on to make over 100 appearances.

Bristol City came calling in June 2014 and in his first season at Ashton Gate, Freeman helped the Robins win promotion to Championship and lift the EFL Trophy.

As he was at Stevenage, Freeman provided a regular source of goals from the midfield engine room in the West Country, prompting QPR to secure his services for an undisclosed fee in January 2017.

Statistically, Freeman has impressed many onlookers in the second tier since and having been monitored by boss Chris Wilder for a long period of time, he becomes United's first signing ahead of returning to the Premier League.

Of the signing of Freeman, boss Wilder remarked: "Luke gives us balance off his left foot. His stats add up and all the eyes we've had on him have come back with glowing reports.

"He's one of the best players in the Championship and he can play in a number of positions. Luke is ideal to complement what we already have at the club, I think he will be a good fit for us."
