Dan Agger - A football thread

Well I think up to now it's been plausible to think it's a matter that Rodgers has a major say in, but this makes it seem like a purely financial decision taken over his head.

I'm sorry but that's seriously depressing. These owners are barely any better than the last ones. Potless and clueless, just better at the PR stuff.

I don't agree with Agger going, but that's wide of the mark, in terms of running with a business head, it's far from clueless. They put money in last season and were stung. We don't have CL football and we're trying to finance another new manager's vision.

Believe that if you want. I'll be proved right, as always.

They're fucking useless.

What do you make of the shirt thrown to the crowd, then, and Gerrard's interview?

I think it could be that "It's out of Danny's hands and up to the owners", as that Agger wants his new contract and it is up to the owners if that is met. If it is not, we may be forced to cash in now with a massive bid from City, rather than lose him for a lot less in Jan or next summer. He's apperantly stalling on a new contract, could be a way to force him to lower his demands or else we'll cash in.

The shirt throwing to the crowd is a bit weird though I agree there. But getting YNWA tattoo on your knuckles isnt something you do if you're on your way.
He can say no to a transfer.

I don't believe they know what they're doing in football, I've said as much enough times, but suggesting its clueless to consider selling either a crock or a donkey to fund improvement and to make the best of a bad situation is wrong. It might be financial head over football heart, but anyway.

It wasn't meant to be a ringing endorsement.

Those at the game say he just gave it to a kid near the paddock, so the shirt thing doesnt have to mean anything.

.... We knew we'd listen to offers. We knew agger didn't want to go. We know we'll accept a bid that meets our valuation.

Failing to see why people are surprised/upset here?

We're in denial, surely its not that hard for you to understand

I'm not completely against it, providing we get a lot and every penny is reinvested into the squad.

But it would be horrible. I posted last year that Liverpool didn't feel like Liverpool any more; instead just a collection of players I didn't give much of a toss about.

Agger never fitted into that. He's an extremely cool guy, a quality player, and watching him play for someone else would be shit.

I think the owners want rid but rodgers has on intention of selling. He's saying what he's sayin just to pander to the owners and nothing more. He's going nowhere.

Really don't want Agger to go. He must be stalling on a contract as I don't see any reason BR would want to cash in. Aggers suits his system down to the ground. I'd hate to see him line out for City.

Is it true he got a YNWA tat? Missed that but read it the match thread.

Someone post the gif of Danny elbowing Torres. Great moment.

Reading those uppity cunts spouting about him on bluemoon and watching the YouTube videos of him being ace almost made me projectile vomit all over my monitor, and kick a kitten in the face.

all seems a little strange .....if rodgers wants to sell to fund other deals then fair enough , i don't agree but what can you do . But this new spin that's it's the owners that want to sell i don't get , why ? cause he has just 2 yrs left on his deal ? .
I'm probably paranoid but we always seem to panic about this "he's only got a few yrs left on his contract" stuff . Other clubs have players who drop to having just 1 yr yet they seem to get decent money for them if they sell .

I think the owners are right on this - we have been down this road at least twice from what I can remember, and each time we have felt badly when the player forces the move because one of the other big clubs come in for them. Its the right thing to do - either sign the contract we are offering on our terms (within reason of course) - or else be ready to be moved on. I appreciate all that YNWA on knuckles, and love for the club, but I would say another way of showing that love is to get the club a big fee by moving on because your not satisfied with the terms your club is offering. I think many of us should think about all this Agger love before feeling bad. Since GH era we have been quite lucky with our defenders and there is no reason why we cannot find a good replacement. Been reading about the Uruguyan defender we linked with - Diego Godin, and from all accounts he sounds really good - a ball player, good in the air, and no nonsence defending, plus he will find Suarez here to, with reports of a £9M transfer fee. It might all be ok if we sell Agger.

I guess this is the moneyball? When you can get enough cash for a player he seem to be worth more in cash than in person. However if we are to be reckoned as a CL candidate and a force forward we really need the Aggers in the world. And he still have two years running on his contract so why people slate him for not signing a new one, when they have no fucking clue what he is offered is foolish. The way the football world is today there is probably some rick fuck in Saudi or Inida or even fucking Iran going to buy himself a footie club over the next 7 months, and he will buy Agger for megabucks next summer for all we know. So worrying on cashing in is not what football is about. having the optimal squad to win is what it is all about. And if we can build that there is no worries than Daniel will jump the ship.

He should sign that contract that's been sitting in front of him for a while then.

Spot on, Sheiky, and this is a crucial factor which too many of our colleagues on here seem to be ignoring. I want to keep Agger, especially if he himself wants to stay, but he has to act accordingly over that contract.

Has he definitely been given a contract to sign? And if so, has he definitely been stalling over signing it?

I really like Adam Johnson.
Id love to get him.
Downing > Johnson

We got royally ripped off over Stu, he's a £10m player who had a shit season but he'll improve under Rodgers. I've never been a huge fan of his but I have seen enough to know there's a good player in there and I think Rodgers intends using him more that most LFC fans would like.

I predict that Downing will have a good season and show that, rather than an out-and-out winger, he has the potential/vision to play tiki-taki and (prepare to laugh) he could become a Pedro-type of player for us.

I realise the anomaly here is that I'm saying he's only worth £10m but could be our Pedro but that's because he was only worth £10m based on his career up to that point BUT somewhere inside Downing is a very intelligent player trying to get out. If we surround him with similarly intelligent players (Allen, Gerrard, Borini, Suarez etc) and a manager who knows how to get the best from him then he could become worth the £20m we paid for him.

It was reported in "The Times" yesterday. I know that's not a guarantee, but at least one Liverpudlian I know (not a member on here) has told me independently that he's heard the same thing.

08.16: As well as welcoming Joe Allen to the club, Brendan Rodgers said he did not want to sell Daniel Agger.

"There's nothing new to add. You can see tonight he's important to me and how I like to play," Rodgers told reporters.

"I like to have a playmaker in behind and Daniel, this is his game, building from behind, stepping in with the ball and making passes. For me there's no update because we don't want to sell him.

"He's a player who's very important for me and will remain that way."

Saw that yesterday. Much more confident of Agger staying after that.

Oliver Kay said the other day that that FSG have money. But I'm guessing that getting them to invest after last years horrendous failure could be tough.

If Agger has a contract in front of him, the lad should get to signing it pronto. Stop fucking about and tell that bastard agent of yours to stop running his gob.

I'm assuming Agger is asking for a wage that reflects last season & the fact city are sniffing around.

The club are almost certainly offering him one that reflects his injury record during his time here so far.

As for the tattoo, I'm fairly sure he's got at least one of a former club, so perhaps it's not as sure a sign as many think.

You'd hope if he liked it here so much he'd just sign, but money talks, unfortunately.

We want him to stay but on a wage that is within our wage structure.

I don't see why we can't give him a year extension so if he proves himself fit all season in the same form as last we then look at a higher wage to reflect his fitness.
