Dan Agger - A football thread

So does the story go that we keep Agger, everybody is really happy because he's a great player. Then he plays a game or two and gets crocked for the season.
I am clutching at straws here but the fact he had never been in better physical shape during the Euros according to the physical tests made by the Danish National team coaches could perhaps indicate that he's getting less prone to injuries as well?

Combined with the fact he has grown wiser and started to take better care of himself we can at least hope he's leaving the injuries behind him for good.

It's the new Liverpool Way for shit things to happen. Hopefully he stays and and stays fit. (But if City come in with a mad bid then hey ho off you go).

Yeah and he can take that YNWA tattoo with him alright...

Maybe he's got a Cape Fear thing going, with 'YAWA' on the other hand. Anyway, it's been largely down to the efforts of the sports science people that at long last he's sorted his back problems out, which would make it even more infuriating if some other team gets the benefit of his improved fitness.

Regardless of what happens with Agger, I want Adam Johnson on the cheap. I think he's quality.

He needs consistent games, a manager that trusts him, and some confidence. I know he's not flavor if the month here, but I reckon given the right circumstances he could be quality.

Take him in a heartbeat.

So its ok for us to sell him regardless of how he feels but he's meant to commit to us while not knowing what the future holds?! Im sure loads of players would love to come join us if that was how we were seen to treat them. He's still contracted to us which is what both parties committed to originally, so we can tell city to piss off if we want. We can even accept the fee and Agger can tell city to piss off if he wants. And saying someone should show love for the club by moving on and getting that club some money in, thats just you suiting yourself.

I don't agree with the idea of selling Agger if he doesn't want to go (not least because I don't want him to go either) BUT, if it's true that he's stalling on signing a new contract two years away from the end of his current one, that should ring warning bells. We didn't think McMoneyman or Owen were leaving two years from the end of their contracts either. The club are as entitled to certainty from him as he is from them.

Wouldn't mind him too but only on the cheap. They have no room for anymore at Citeh and if they want us to take his wages of their books we should only offer an insignificant transfer fee.

Otherwise, no.

I havent always been his biggest fan but when he plays at city he does cause problems. I think if the deal is right (away from any potential agger transfer) then we could benefit a lot from him coming here.

I can't understand the people who don't want him, he was being quote in the £10million region at the beginning of the season, thats an absolute steal.

If Adam Johnson is so good why is Downing ahead of him in the national team?
Do you see something in him that Hodgson, Mancini and even Capello failed to see?
If we sign Johnson we'll IMO be getting another overrated British signing like Downing, Henderson, Carroll and Adam.
Ideally he should have the same role he has at City, back up.
I'd rather play Sterling or Suso.

Modo, Adam Johnson is very very talented. If he weren't such a smug looking cunt and weren't being wasted at City, I'd be wetting myself at the prospect of signing him.

Theyre not ready to start in the premier league any more than you are Modo and you know it. We need someone to come in and at provide quality which Johnson can. As I said I'm not his biggest fan but at least I can see he'd definitely improve us in that area.

Only if he actually performs, and on recent evidence that's a pretty big "if". I think he's got the talent, and he'd be worth a go as a makeweight in a wider deal, but I'd take some convincing to spend any real money on him.

I saw a lot of City last season and the season before that and I'm not really that impressed.
He's got some raw talent, we can all agree on that but it's his decision making that bothers me and his productivity (creating space for others). Sure he can dribble but what separates him from top wingers in the game is that he habitually chooses to take players on when he shouldn't. He doesn't track back and challenge without the ball. He's also selfish and mouths of at his team mates.

We should be looking to sign someone like Younes Belhanda at Montpellier.

I know, but they'll benefit from it and to me Johnson isn't more than a back up.

I believe Rodgers could work with Johnson like he did Sinclair, who was a changed player under Rodgers.

I suppose thats where we'll differ so. They'll benefit more from being introduced when theyre ready imo. But I do agree with Ryans point and that with consistent games and a manager that trusts him he could become a viable option for us!

That's a pretty shit, naive view Modo. You could also point to it being the reason England are so shit.

Adam Johnson wouldn't have made them any better IMO and I don't think signing him would significantly improve us either.

Oh I've heard the "no manager wants him" reason used in another topic. Can't remember the name though.

I'm not to sure on Johnson tbh. The skill is there, but is the attitude and work rate good enough.

Thats why he is on the bench - like you say he wont track back and cover and given that in br system there is a lot of Team work needed is is advisable to have a lone wolf in the team.
