Dan Agger - A football thread

Ah right. Fair enough.

Does he walk round in the training tops? I've seen a few players who do, I find that bizarre, it'd be like a stewardess going out in her uniform, surely.

Is he going to sign a new contract or what ? if not then sell him. There is no way we would get £20M for him next season if he has another good season - no way. I'm telling you all - the guy is going to screw us next season if we don't tie him down to an extended contract.

This certain types of players and managers, those willing to die for the shirt and the club, are a vital part of the heritage of Liverpool FC. What has made the club so great in the past and what will take it back to its former greatness.

No money in the world should ever see us depart with these rare breeds.

So if Moron, Ryan or anyone else keeps on talking about 'the length of contract', 'sell value in one years time', 'signing on fees' etc. they will be temporarily asked to STEP AWAY FROM THIS THREAD and perhaps go to one of Ross' accountant threads where that jibberish belongs.

Look Kristian, for the avoidance of any doubt I too would prefer to keep Daniel Agger (and actually I'm hopeful that we will), but things just aren't as simple as you suggest. LFC have been badly stung in the past because we trusted players who had arrived at the same point in their existing contracts. It was always a mistake to trust that tosser McMoneyman, but Owen was a different kettle of fish.

To be fair to KHL on this one JJ what I've heard is Agger definitely does not want to go and it was the club looking to sell to generate funds - but only at the right price. He needs to follow through on that though and sign the new contract though - you're right on that score.

In my opinion Agger is much more like a Carra or Gerrard in terms of loyalty and character, but of course there's always a 'risk'. We are talking a player however that has not only pledged his love and loyalty to the club a countless number of times in the medias and on the pitch and who's now even tattooed his knuckles with YNWA for all to see. Hardly looking like he's about to do one on us is he?

Anyways sometimes in some scenarios you have got to take what little risk involved to move forward.

I know players have acted stupidly in the past and left us without much compensation but hasn't it occured to you guys that a player who's physically covering his body in YNWA tattooes are probably not one who's about to sting us?

I may be naive, I just don't see it.

Ive seen too many 'Oh he loves the club soooo much' types fuck us over to believe it about ANYONE anymore.
If Agger loves the club and it ISNT about the money he wants to be signing a new deal. Thats the only message i care about from him.

I assume given our cost cutting we are asking him to take a reduction but over longer terms.
So if he isnt about the money that wont be any problem.

It's not that simple though is it?

They are professional sportsmen at the prime of their career. No matter how much anyone loves their workplace most would want to be paid their moneys worth.

I don't know how much he earns right now and I'm quite sure he won't demand what Citeh are supposedly ready to offer him but to ask him to take a pay cut in these times would be a rather daft move and certainly one of true intent on behalf of the club.

Again we don't know at all what has been offered, what is being negotiatied etc. so I'll keep from commenting more on the matter but to simplify it and claim it's all down to the player in hand sems a bit one-dimensional imo.

I think this whole Agger saga has pissed a certain Man C defender off.

Kolo Touré's medal.

He gave it away

You're losing the fucking plot. I said his value would drop if he doesn't sign a contract extension. That's not a criticism of him, it's a fact.

Im not the one simplifying it mate. There have been a BUNCH of posts saying 'he doesnt care about the money he loves the club'
Thats just bollocks.
And they all know it.
I want him to stay of course but if HE wants to stay, sign a contract.
Or with the best will in the world fuck off.
I do not wish him to leave next year for 8m quid.

You seriously have to start all of your replies with some stupid attack? Really?

Anyways of course his value would drop but who cares?

He's a Liverpool player and not one we should be looking to sell, hence his 'sell value' is of little importance. At least that's how I hope we are addressing this issue with regards to a player the manager wants and whom wants to stay himself.

That's the plot and I am not missing it one bit.

He does care about money, every footballer do.

That's not the same thing as stating he'd fuck us over at first opportunity is all. Or that he doesn't want to stay because a new contract hasn't been signed. A contract with 2 years left mind.

And again we don't know what has been offered if at all why we''re all pretty much in the dark here, that's all I was trying to say when posters accused him for not signing.

Kris, a player only holds worth to a club whilst he's contracted to it. At the moment he holds value to Liverpool and is a tangible asset. As that contract runs down then the value of him as an asset will depreciate. Without Agger signing a contract then the value he brings to Liverpool has a limited timeline. Any business, and LFC is a business, given the choice of selling an asset above market value now or losing it for nothing in two years time will make the former choice. It's unrealistic to expect those who run the business side of the club to hold any kind of emotional attachment to a player - that's for supporters. Now, regardless of what Agger feels about the club, whilst his new contract remains unsigned, he remains a depreciating asset which the club will look to offloads. It's simple economics really. If he signs a new contract the problem goes away.

I get all that, well put too, we just don't know whether the club has shown any real intent of keeping him a Liverpool player or they've asked him to take a paycut well aware that the richest club in the world are upping their bidding every 24 hours.

I am not asking anyone to be sentimental about it, but I want the owners to listen to the man in charge on the pitch, Mr. Rodgers, and how he'd like to keep him in the side. Act accordingly.
